History / Polish flag over the Reichstag first? [399]

David i'm trying to figure out what is the reason for you denying his Germanic roots and if your attitude towards Poles is negative?

It's not negative. And only reason i even care is because i know how people from Silesia likes to deny their polish roots.

Just look at Klose!

History / Polish flag over the Reichstag first? [399]

My grand parents came from lower Silesia...Ick bin ein Berliner!

Mmm i got good Instinct!

I wont even argue about your grand parents being polish. Silesians are so stubborn!

I bet their German is not as fluent as BB's unless they are Germans too.

Yes they do for sure! They even got this German accent when they speak english. Could be because they lived there almost whole their live. They recived German citizenship during the communist times since some of our ancestors were German.

According to article 116 of the German constitution, all former German citizens, regardless of their nationality, can be "re-granted German citizenship on application" and also are "considered as not having been deprived of their German citizenship if they have established their domicile in Germany after May 8, 1945 and have not expressed a contrary intention." This regulation allowed the "autochthons", as well as ethnic Germans who at first decided to stay in Poland and were allowed to do so, to reclaim German citizenship and settle in West Germany. Besides those groups a substantial community of Poles who never had German citizenship were emigrating to West Germany during the whole period of the People's Republic of Poland due to its undemocratic political system and constant economic problems.

History / Polish flag over the Reichstag first? [399]

You don't win this much battles with murdering innocent peoples....nope you win them with destroying your armed military!

Yes indeed the Germans were superior in almost all the military fields. If it weren't for Hitler and those sick nazis Germany would have been better of if it would still have been a WW2.

Yeah...can't you see my enthusiasm for the polish forces??? :):):)

I bet you're from Silesia or upper Poland ;)

Why don't you start talking German to BB? The best way to find out. I did and I know he's a German.

Atleast 5 of my relatives speaks fluent German... Does it make them German?

History / Lwów, Wilno ... kresy - Poland have lost enormoust part of our heritage... [389]

Ivan Franko National University of Lviv

The University was founded on January 20, 1661 by the King John II Casimir of Poland .

Lviv Polytechnic

1851 The number of students at the Technical Academy was 220, out of which 98 were Polish, 50 Jewish, 48 German, 19 Ukrainian/Ruthenian, 4 Czech and 2 Hungarian. In the same year, professor Wawrzyniec Zmurko (graduate of the Vienna Polytechnic) became director of the Department of Mathematics, as the first Pole in the history of the school. Zmurko is considered as founder of the Lemberg School of Mathematics.

1870 : A Decree of Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria established Polish as the official language of the school. Most professors not proficient in Polish left the Polytechnic.

November 15, 1877 : Inauguration of the new Rector - Professor of architecture Julian Zachariewicz. On the same day, consecration of newly-constructed school's building took place, carried out by three Lvov's Archbishops - Roman Catholic, Greek-Catholic and Armenian-Catholic and witnessed by Governor of Galicia, Alfred Potocki.

Polish enough?

Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University

That's an facultie of the Original Lvov University...

Actually most of them are ;)

In the interbellum that was the case, which meant that sooner or later you have to be kicked out. The justice was served and now there are lectures in Ukrainian, English and either French or German if I am not mistaken. Feels great. Hope to see you in Lviv in 2012.

I hope you enjoy the city. Remember that evey time you visit Lwow you visit polish pride.

No matter how much you try to manipulate your history the truth always finds its way ;)

News / Polish twins have different fathers [67]

In a rare, but possible, event a Polish woman has given birth to a pair of twins from different fathers.

The media in Poland are reporting Monday that the twins' mother became pregnant while she was having sexual relations with her husband and an affair.

This is apparently only the seventh time that this type of pregnancy has been recorded.

Such rare cases are possible when a woman produces two eggs and has sex with another partner while she's ovulating.

I wonder what her husband will do.. To be, or not to be, that is the question...

Shakespeare for the win!

In South africa they call this a "Fok-Op" wonder why xD

Really? Any idea just how much property that involves? It would certainly bankrupt Poland in an instant.

About 50 bilj $. Something that Germany and Russia can pay for in my opinion.

Germany has struggled to bring East Germany up to West German standards - what hope does Poland have?

Atleast the people there will have it better then they would with Ukraine.

Dream on, sunshine.

Merry Christmas to you too;)

UK, Ireland / Irish Times: Irish workers warm to Poland [24]

Six years ago, Poles in Ireland vented their anger at the dearth of jobs in their own country. Now with no banking crisis, no bubble, and a growing economy, Poland is attracting ever-greater numbers of Irish migrants.

Some in the GAA club have come to Warsaw to work, though many have come to study veterinary medicine. All agree that Poland is as good a place as any to be at this moment in Irish history. "A lot of my friends have lost their jobs and left Ireland for Norway, France or Germany. So it's actually easier to see them based here," says Aoife Cahill, a 25-year-old from Burnfort, in Cork. "I knew Polish people in Ireland, and they encouraged me to come here. It's worked out really well. There's a lot more Irish here than you'd think."

Morgan says Polish emigration raised awareness at home of this central European country, but many Irish are still surprised by the scale of the place. At about 312,000sq km it is bigger than the UK and has a population of about 40 million. Such size brings opportunities, he says, particularly for small and medium-sized companies.

History / Lwów, Wilno ... kresy - Poland have lost enormoust part of our heritage... [389]

So, would you be prepared to give all those Jewish families their property back and displace Poles who acquired the new title deeds?

Yes.

The face of Lviv has been changed over the years and, now being part of Ukraine, the Ukrainians have taken away a large part of the Catholic element.

I wonder why....

It really doesn't matter what David says as he has no power either way.

NO ******************* Boy]Would you give them back for Lwow???[/quote]
For Lwow and everything else that were stolen.

He has the same power as Crowie here on this board... :)

Ah yea and you got the power to change the politics right? Give me a break.... ;)

if you're missing home, boys, do what we do - go to court and apply for return of private property. if refused - buy it like a normal person.

Can't do business with criminals...

they never contributed, created or built anything noteworthy, they're a bunch of unwashed peasants but they're still people.

Word.

But those Poles crying about Lwów should concentrate on building Polish cities rather than crying about what they've lost.

Easy to say from an neutral angle you jerk! ;)

Respect the ukrainian law and never bribe the locals.

Bribing is a law in Ukraine...

I-S, let's say that Vilnius was a part of Poland at the moment. You'd still have to travel there anyway if you were from, let's say, Poznań. Besides, they did preserve a lot of Polish elements.

So if England annex Scotland and throw out all the scots from there and place you in ireland you would still be happy to visit Edinburgh since its still scottish in the historical sence?

Because you have an interest or influence in a place, doesn't make it yours.

You ignorant ******************. Don't you understand that plenty of our families owned land there before ww2? People got murdered and had to flee their homes to make room for some ukies...

We never asked for Silesia... The eastern parts of former Germany were forced upon us.

what is the ultimate determinant of ownership to land?

News / US Military: The Army of Poland is crap. [124]

General David Petraeus, commander of US and NATO forces in Afghanistan, has issued an official statement praising Poland's military contingent in the country. His remarks come after US Army officers were quoted in Time magazine criticizing the competence and capabilities of Polish forces serving in Afghanistan.

wbj.pl/article-52591-top-us-general-praises-polish-military.html

Statement from Gen. Petraeus on Polish contributions in Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan (Dec 19, 2010) - I have been privileged to command coalition efforts in Iraq and, now, in Afghanistan. In each case, Polish forces were very important members of the coalition and demonstrated impressive courage, professional expertise, and commitment.

Most recently, I visited Polish forces last week in Ghazni, and as in the past, I was very impressed by the excellent work of the Polish contingent.

It is, in short, a great privilege, once again, to serve with Polish forces in a difficult, important mission. Polish forces are serving their nation, the coalition, and Afghanistan in truly admirable fashion. And all of Poland's citizens should be very proud of the enormous contributions their men and women in uniform are making in Afghanistan.

History / Lwów, Wilno ... kresy - Poland have lost enormoust part of our heritage... [389]

Although what I like about nobility is the respect to one's roots and cherishing old traditions and symbols of the past.I find it attractive.

Are you a homosexual? <Joker> HEHEHE

It's actually depressing to be of noble heritage in todays Poland. The nobles lost everything in Poland/Ukraine/Belarus/Lithuania and most of them got murdered or had to flee their homes.

I remember how my great grandmother told me how she and her sister fled their estate in Ukraine while her father and his servants defended their estate from the communists. her whole family were murdered besides my great grandmother and her sister that made their way to Mielec where she later married my great grandfather.

The polish gentry lost eveything, Family/Estate. All we have left is our history and pride.

Gruni, you are too intelligent to join these two tight cr*p-holes :)

Gruni join the dark side!

History / Why did Hitler kill so many Jews in Poland? [261]

Or maybe for the simple fact that 1/5 of all the Jews in the world lived in Poland?

Before WW2 1% of the German population were Jews. And same goes for the rest of Europe besides Poland that had over 10.8%.

History / Lwów, Wilno ... kresy - Poland have lost enormoust part of our heritage... [389]

The Radziwill family was Polish??? Hahahah :))) You made my day.

Ow gees... The Radziwill Family exploited Lithuania and Belarus to the limit. Sure they were decendants of the Lithuanian Astikai family but after the creation of the PLC Republic they went the polish way and have done so ever since.

If you asked a Radziwill 500 years ago if he were polish he would say yes. If you would ask them today they would say the same. There is a reason why they choose Poland over Belarus and Lithuania after WW1.

They have not worse than the title nation. Use your country to improve the conditions for all people in Belarus and then Polish minority will benefit as well.

Poland is doing a great work to improve the conditions in both Belarus and Ukraine, but it takes two to tango you know.

Some people are so stupid even I know that Radziwill family is Ukrainian some people should think before they speak.

Your intelligence amuses me :)

History / Lwów, Wilno ... kresy - Poland have lost enormoust part of our heritage... [389]

Until the partitions, right ;)

I would even go further and say that the Poles influenced the city untill ww2.

I can break your filthy ignorance if you want. You don't need a break, you need to sit down and read and don't be afraid of knowledge about other people and states.

I know plenty <gasps>

The Belarusian language evolved from the Ruthenian language just like todays ukrainian. You guys got no real identity, know why? Because both the Poles and Russian exploited you for over 1000 years. Both Ukraine and Belarus only existed on the map for 20 years as independent nations.

And this is not the earliest period when Belarusian language was recorded - check XII century religious works. And for them to exist there should have been population who already spoke the language.

Indeed. guess who the Benefactors was? The Radziwill family. They wanted the lands for themselfs thats why they cared so much but in reality they were Poles just like eveybody else in the Republic. Today they live in Poland and call themselfs proudly poles.

what in hell are you talking about? Have you heard what Belarusians themselves (in their own country) go through in Lukashenko's regime?

Have you ever heard what the Poles go trough in Belarus?

Brest, like Minsk, is in excellent condition. Belarus is one of the cleanest most well taken care of countries that I've ever been to. People are great too. Political system, not so much.

Actually i would't mind visit Belarus. I've meet plenty of Belarusians and most of them that iv'e been speaking too always claims to be polish descendants, seems to be the fasion over there.

So much persecution that they decide to stay there...Even though there is a city named "Polack"....hmmm

Do they got a chooice? probably their family lived there the past 500 years. Moving to Poland ain't an option fo most of them. What they gonna do if they got no job and no money in Poland?

History / Lwów, Wilno ... kresy - Poland have lost enormoust part of our heritage... [389]

what connections does Poland have with Brest?

Historical connections... Brest belonged to PLC untill the partitions of PLC.

What useful purpose would it serve Poland to occupy that space?

Nothing. Poland would probably have to pump in Billions of euro into Brest before it would even look like a city...

Likewise, I've met 3 of them and they've integrated very very well.

Haha common you've met "3". Nothing to brag about....

If you are a Polish - make hypothesis about your own country's existance - not others. Bielorusians are a nation like yours.

Yea wow Belarus has been a nation for 20 years... Give me a break!

and they said that Bielorusians are the most hospitable people they have ever met.

Yea right. What do you know about the poles living inside Belarus? I heard the Belarusian goverment is very generous to the poles inside their country <Sarcasm>

True also on the second point. There was a program once about Poles in Belarus (Minsk, I believe) and, despite feeling it to be grey (like Aberdeen), they were generally impressed with the people and offerings of the city.

A program sponsored by the Belarusian Goverment haha! ;)

I wonder how the world will view the U.S after the rest of the 2,750,000 documents gets out.

Maybe the U.S will be the new Russia? Isolated from the rest of the world because of the paranoia they will have against the U.S from now on.

Something tells me you don't know what you're talking about. Look at how many people have been shot in cold blood, not by accident. I think you would change your opinion fairly quickly.

I know that i might sound very anti-american but seriously plenty of civillians died by american hands.

I know it's very hard to swallow for some people. But the fact still remain.

a quick read of what's been released so far says only one thing - that it's interesting, but nothing particularly dreadful. The US obsession with data - what's new?

There will be more in the comming days.

It's just an ugly side of politics. All countries have ugliness in their politics. It doesn't appeal to us because we aren't politicians. It's stuff they do to get things done.

Yes indeed. But America choose the role as the world leaders. And what signal do they send to the rest of the world if they can't follow the rules that they created?

Killing civillians and destroying other countries and even threaten their own allies etc etc... Where is the logic?

Funny how these "leaks" never have anything nice to say about anyone, offer some kind of balance. They're nothing but dressed up tabloids meant to look official at the end of the day.

Maybe because America don't have anything nice to say?

That isn't mafia methods...assasination is.

The mafia got plenty ways of doing business. And the Slovenia thingy is not far away from that in a legal way but still an absurd way.

Anyway it was a very childish move by the Americans to refuse to meet with Slovenian officials if the Slovenians would't accept Americas offer.

The United States apparently used bargaining to move prisoners from the Guantanamo Bay detention camp to other countries. In one case, if Slovenia did not take one of the prisoners, President Obama would not agree to meet with Slovenian officials. Other offers include economic incentives or even a visit from President Obama.

Ow my god!!! Seriously what the hell is America doing?
