Life / First communion - it's that time of year again in Poland! [109]

Any book designed to mock something, cannot be considered pure genius.

The cover is not mocking anything at all.

Tom Sharp's books mocked Apartheid South Africa and though not genius are quite funny despite what some fans of that judicial system think.

It's very convenient for you to have a number of standards you can apply to any particular point at any particular time.

Today it's excusing sectarianism by claiming one thing, another day it's refuting the same numbers in order to claim something different.

The fact is that a lot of people would like to change these laws, some are Catholic some are not, even if all were Catholic ascribing your prejudiced views to them is a little bit bigoted, a la all Blacks are good dancers or all Jews have big noses.

I wonder why you don't want to discuss Catholic bigots and their desire to force everybody to behave according to their rules.

That is quite a bigoted thing to say assuming that all people who want a change in the Sunday trading laws are doing so because they are Catholic. There couldn't possibly be any other reason, just your judgment and assumption that it's because they are Catholic.

News / PO-PiS again neck and neck [248]

There's a reason why I'm calling him Red Polonius. The evidence was staring us in the face all along.

It was the private information I was asking about.

Oh, were you just lying again when you said that Jon wants to deny freedom to others?

Your sectarian comment was being explained to Jon who "mistakenly" thought I had made the sectarian comment.

You really choose to see what you want through your sectarian haze, how is that honest?

Edit

Or in some cases people appear to think that they are without sin and know better than God what God meant to say.

Which is exactly what you were doing while judging people based on their religion

I quite agree with your statement,

Quite pathetic Jon.

Its about freedom from intemperate minds. How can you expect freedom to trade and freedom to express yourself in any way you want including spiritually while denying that freedom to others?

That is what sectarian statements do, they curtail freedom

Now you're both boring and lying Barney:

It's boring watching you twist and turn as usual this time to disguise your sectarianism.

Its relevant to the topic as pointed out above

It's rather hypocritical to rant about proposed changes to trading laws limiting freedom when his opinion is clearly opposed to religious freedom by claiming that Catholics don't follow the teachings of Christ.

Oh dear Barney, you're lying yet again

I suppose it is a bit too extreme to expect Catholics to follow the teachings of Christ
Or at least they claim to be Christians and Catholics, the actions of many of them very much suggest otherwise.
Those are quotes from you not Jesus, you have not explained your sectarian statements and as usual you wont.

Polonius, you seem to be rather well educated as to the chicanery of the PRL.

How do you know that, I assume he told you?

No, those words are the words of Christ

They are your words Harry, you judged and judge people according to your view of their Christianity. You made a sectarian statement and are now trying to demonstrate that a dog is a cat.

don't think his comment was sectarian at all. And the presumption made by Harry was probably made on what we all can see. Not many people go to church, far more declare faith (yet they don't practise it), and even more are put in stathistics as believers because the data is shown based on the fact of being baptised.

There is no probably about it, Harry knows fine well that his comments are sectarian but doesn't want to admit that he is forcing his view of Christianity onto others. It's not for Harry or anyone else to dictate exactly how individuals choose to express or interpret their faith.

What is it exactly that makes his interpretation of Christianity so much better than another persons especially as he believes that Catholics don't follow the teachings of Christ?

It's rather hypocritical to rant about proposed changes to trading laws limiting freedom when his opinion is clearly opposed to religious freedom by claiming that Catholics don't follow the teachings of Christ.

I suppose it is a bit too extreme to expect Catholics to follow the teachings of Christ was the phrase used.

Edit

I'm not holding the people who want to ban Sunday trading to a higher standard than other people because they are Catholics, I expect them to behave at that standard because they are Christians (specifically Catholics). Or at least they claim to be Christians and Catholics, the actions of many of them very much suggest otherwise.

Again you are judging people by standards you have selected. What exactly allows you to be the arbiter of Christianity?

No you aren't: I've already pointed out the tiny little teachings of Jesus which more than a few Catholics have problems with.

On the contrary Harry, you made a blatant sectarian comment and I would like you to explain it.
I suppose it is a bit too extreme to expect Catholics to follow the teachings of Christ

Holding Catholics to a higher standard than other denominations in an attempt to explain your comment is also sectarian, surely your flat mates told you that.

If I wanted to again debate theology (unlikely after spending three years living in a flat with two women who were each taking the finest Bth in the country), I'd choose somebody who can debate without throwing in insults and lies.

I knew someone who could speak Japanese doesn't make me fluent in that language.

I'm still waiting for you to explain your Sectarian comments, of course you are not going to do so

Would you say that the majority of Catholics in Poland follow the teachings which I quoted? All of the ones which I quoted, not just the ones which you cherry picked

You are holding Catholics to a standard that you have arbitrarily chosen in order to hide your clear sectarian comment.

If I wanted to debate theology I would choose someone who knew something about theology.

The forum would be a better place without sectarian comments

Do "Judge not lest ye be judged" or "Let he that is without sin cast the first stone at her" ring any bells?

They do indeed and have exactly nothing to do with your sectarian statement

Keeping holy the Lord's Day

Still cramming your religious views down other people's throats then.

No but
It's good that Poland allows freedom of religion.

What are you talking about, delph? If they tell you to work on Sunday, you work on Sunday, you have no other choice if you want to keep the job.

Exactly that's why the unions would like to see restrictions on Sunday trading.

I would like to see some evidence that Polish Unions "would like to ban working full stop, while receiving full salaries". Or assume its just right wing rambling.

And what was the Jew stuff about?

News / Adolf Hitler is still a citizen of Szczecin [15]

If you feel your story is so strong and relevant to current affairs in Poland post away. If you feel your story would stimulate debate about Hitler you may just have spotted a gap in the market after all he hasn't been mentioned here for a while.

who gives a ..... about this, Hitler did not received this from any Pole after war and why Poland would care about Nazi honorary citizenship.

Exactly, small, local English language newspapers are full of this kind of stuff, complete crap that allows the migrant community to feel superrior.

Such nonsense tends to dominate the media here.

Really!!! Dominated are you sure?

Are you sure you are not using a message board to project your chip on your shoulder onto others?

As I said above post away we could all do with a story about Hitler on a Polish message board.

It's a non story designed to titillate the migrant and English speaking community who can then sneer at the "backward" Polish. Similar stories are reproduced all over the world where there is a local English language rag but now they tend to be on line.

Life / First communion - it's that time of year again in Poland! [109]

I stand by my words.

It depends which words because you have changed stance read the thread

Even in this post you contradict yourself.

You stand by your words which include the phrase western morality yet claim that morality is objective in the same post. After several pages you still stand by your words, Western morality implying other morality so that is either relativism or pluralism either way there is no objective morality/

Yeah but where do you stand?

You started in this thread by stating that all morality comes from Christianity then changed course. You then claimed that Darwinism created or excuses racism without any argument to support that idea. It now turns out that you posted that to demonstrate how silly modern thought is and an "essence" of understanding was necessary to understand.

Do you believe in the cult, your third position above or do you believe in the second position. Do you consider them to be mutually exclusive?

It's hard to know what you believe cos you keep changing course. The essence stuff you posted do you believe that?

When I state that Beethoven is a genius, I mean it as a fact. It is NOT the matter of "preference".

I was well aware of your Kuhnian ideas and I have posted about such ideas in previous threads, the problem that I see is that you are making concrete statements about things and changing your stance when challenged claiming that you don't believe in such things, this contradicts your "essence" claim.

I want mods to start binning trolls that ask for PROOF in every frikin philosophical debate

Trolls usually derail threads they are uncomfortable with by dragging posters into "he said you said arguments" throwing random insults or wanting pointless fights often over a comprehension malfunction it really is a shocking pathology.

the point I disagree with most strongly is that there was morality before religion.

Chicken and Egg situation they evolved together

Point ....was Neanderthals HAD A PRIMITIVE RELIGION,

How do you know?

We are not talking about art or any other thing where a judgment would be based upon preferences.

You have repeatedly made claims then backed away from them and now claim that you cannot explain the essence of what it is you are trying to say. If you are going to make bold statements you cant hide behind inarticulation (if such a word exists)

I think part of the problem is that most people don't see far enough into the realm of essences to fully grasp some of the implications of my statements.

Basically you are a genius but can't explain what you mean?

Kondzior what is it that you are trying to say? You make statements then claim that you don't support those ideas but claim to be entirely logical.

There is no such thing as evolution, a constant transmutation for lower to higher states.

If that is your understanding of evolution its no wonder that you are confused.

Is there any chance you could just say what you mean based upon what believe in?

right, because the stories in the bible are not nonsense?

Social Darwinism is a steaming pile of nonsense used by racists to justify all sorts of things, Fascists, racists, supporters of eugenics and empire builders love it. It has nothing to do with the Bible or religion there is no zero sum equation here.
