News / Poland's ex-commies to be weeded out of sporting community and law enforcement [32]

What about 'weeding out' ex communist defectors? What about 'weeding out' north Warsaw half-American trannies who look like Oliver Hardy in a frock?

Poland is better than that. People face up to the past and look to making the future a better, less screwed up place.

Why attack sportspeople, Po, why attack police who generally contribute hugely to society?

News / Poland's ex-commies to be weeded out of sporting community and law enforcement [32]

I think this is actually a very sad thread, trying to make a point that doesn't actually exist.

One might equally ask whether or not they are also planning to weed out ex-communist defectors with obese transvestite sons who vent their frustrations by attacking sportspeople, police and anyone who actually contributes to society.

What goes around comes around and if one wants to attack law enforcement officers, sportspeople etc it's hard to do if one is in a very fragile glass house.

Law / How will the Zloty be against the British Pound over the next 6-12 Months [45]

That's quite funny and in a way true. Right now it looks like the main opposition to the daft proposal to withdraw from the world's largest trading bloc is coming from industry and business - and I would expect the unions to have something to say about the million job losses expected.

A fall in the pound is always good though for Brits in Poland, most of whom earn in PLN but occasionally spend in GBP.

Can't be nice for Poles in the UK who send money home.

Life / Is Poland a safe country for people of color? [241]

Having lived in two different countries on that continent (somewhere a bit more African than Hurghada or Sharm) your comment in post #164 is just plain wrong.

And who would want Poland to be anything less than safe for someone of whatever colour...

And yes, the larger cities in Poland are increasingly safer and are welcoming to people whatever their skin colour. As it should be.

Law / High Interest Savings Account in Poland [5]

There are lots - all banks do them. It's called a lokata terminowa and when you get here you will certainly notice adverts for them.

Worth googling to see what different banks offer.

Genealogy / Surname Nowicki - but Jewish ancestors? [19]

You said in the original post that the DNA result surprised you - have you subsequently found a document that mitigates that surprise?

UK, Ireland / P60 UK Upload - Brexit and Polish people's contribution to the British economy [48]

Evidently, 'tictactoe' you don't mind about the effect of losing lucrative academic research projects, something which Polish Universities will be all to happy to bid for. Equally it looks like you don't mind about young people's access to studying in Europe either.

Anyway, this thread is actually about how Poles in the UK can respond to the 'Brexit' mistake rather than your Faragist anti-immigration trolling.

it is not the case, I can assure you,

I prefer to be assured by the voting stats, and as for 'sneering', some schadenfreude is highly appropriate here - after all, the whole of Europe is sneering at the Brexiteers.

Genealogy / Surname Nowicki - but Jewish ancestors? [19]

There were some jewish families in Galicia

I would say very many rather than some. Having the DNA doesn't of course mean that they were a Jewish family. It could be as simple as an ancestor having an affair with a neighbour.

UK, Ireland / P60 UK Upload - Brexit and Polish people's contribution to the British economy [48]

little knowing Brexit was founded by a professor.

That makes all the difference. I wonder what percentage of academics voted for that parochial and self-destructive nonsense.

oh please can we stop dismissing everyone who voted 'leave' as 'poorly educated' - it is very far from the truth.

If you look at who voted for what in the non-binding 'referendum', those with less education tended to vote for the Farage/Johnson lies and the better educated tended to vote for common sense.

UK, Ireland / P60 UK Upload - Brexit and Polish people's contribution to the British economy [48]

the UK is made up of three and a half nations, and therefore about a quarter of the population is 'English'

In fact most (around 40 million) are in England - the population of the four constituent parts are very different. Poles living there are spread around, with by far the highest number in England.

Unfortunately in the England bit we have some very poorly educated people, happy to sign away the future of 65 million people,

UK, Ireland / P60 UK Upload - Brexit and Polish people's contribution to the British economy [48]

ncome taxes are just fraction of contribution. just think of those 800k people pay for lets say ,accommodatio

For once we strongly agree. The post-2004 Polish migration to the UK has been very good for the economy, just as migration from the U.K. and elsewhere is good for the Polish economy.

I suspect we'll be hearing a lot more about this issue as time goes on.

brexit idiocy

Yes...

Life / Questions on unlocking a sim in Warsaw [10]

In the corridors under Dw. Centralny, there are several places. I've used the one between the entrance from the corridor to the WKD station and the entrance on the other side of Jerozolimskie however there are a few others and they all seem much the same.

Language / Name Meaning Of "Polinary" in Poland [10]

That wouldn't ring true as a contraction. If it's actually like that on the original, the most likely scenario is an American official who didn't speak Polish, inaccurately recording a Polish Christian name. There have been examples here of people who had documents from the US with innacurately copied names, placenames etc.

Real Estate / Polish property at public auction and best exposure [21]

Worth mentioning also (sorry to keep sounding negative) but open property auctions are relatively rare in Poland compared to many other places. Your best bet is maybe to go to one of the bigger commercial estate agents here (Cushman Wakefield have a good reputation and operate countrywide). Agents usually like a very quick sale since the difference in their commission is obviously a lot less than the difference in price the vendor gets if they are prepared to wait for a good price and the agent can move on quickly to their next sale.
