News / How will BREXIT affect the immigrants in UK and Poland. [1114]

owever more (or any) lamb in Biedronka

It's the market - most Polish people don't much care for lamb/mutton and so there's no real reason to stock more than minimal amounts.

Beef is more popular but nowhere near as popular as pork.

The biggest changes in Polish meat consumption in the last 20 years or so is the widespread adoption of turkey meat (I remember when it was pretty hard to find) and an increase in beef consumption.

The existence of lamb at all in Poland is probably part of a wider trend of more variety in meats available (biedronka also frequently know has duck, goose and rabbit).

What's funny is biedronka (portuguese owned) expanding the seafood section to widespread indifference. I really don't think many Polish people are going to start eating octopus.... many have a problem with shrimp even.

News / Poland's President-Elect Duda leads in public trust - CBOS poll [185]

You obviously have already prejudged and preconvicted those you claim were responsible for Smolensk

I read once that in Victorian times, one way to find a murderer was to look at someone whose public expression of grief over the deceased was overertly theatrical and exaggerated. The Victorians had their faults but they knew a lot about human nature and if you apply their methodology then the behavior of certain..... persons in the current government start to look very, very suspicious......

he Smolensk controversy should be resolved one way or the other if all its aspects are duly investigated

The place to start is to see who has gained (motive). The people that have gained the most from Smolensk hav initials like AM, AD and JK and I would direct a _lot_ of suspician right towards them. I'm not going to actually make up a word like "geminicide" but I'm sure a lot of people are thinking it....

News / How will BREXIT affect the immigrants in UK and Poland. [1114]

Ireland has a complex situation with the UK in regards to freedom of movement between the two countries.

In the case of a Scottexit (from the UK) the EU might demand Scotland join Schengen which would blow that up, wouldn't it?

I also don't understand why UK should get preferential treatment

What is "preferential" about negotiating mutually beneficial terms? It's almost as if the strongest opponents of Brexit really are admitting that the EU isn't such a good deal for prosperous western countries....

however I don't think it should be done absolutely on UK terms.

And that's what negotiations are for!

There are simple rules:

Since when have "rules" meant anything to Polish people? Breaking rules and bragging about it is the national sport.

Even if all this points are valid it doesn't change the fact why you think UK should get access to single market 'just because'.

I'm not saying that. I'm saying that it's in the EU's own interest to facilitate access to the single market and to place nice with the UK and not try to make an example out of them. Whatever the EU does is up to the EU. I'm not an EU citizen so I don't have a dog in the fight as they say.

EU is a club with it's own rules

Agreed

But they want out only on the things they don't like and keep all the good things

Rather like Poland, wouldn't you say?

Understandable but why do you think EU should agree to that Mafketis?

It's better to have European non-members as friends than as de facto enemies, lenka? The number one main reason that many people in some countries are .... cooling on the EU has to do with a bunch of unelected and unaccountable technocrats telling them what to do and pushing for further, unwanted "integration". Rather than pay attention to that the EU has so far chosen to double down on stupid - pushing for even more integration.

In its day, the EU did a huge amount of good for Europe, but I'm becoming more and more convinced that that day is over. If the EU wants to survive long term then it needs to change some things and I don't think the elite in Brussels realizes that yet.

The UK is a capitalist country and the Single Market has allowed it to prosper.

If the EU takes the position: "We won't negotiate with you, and you still have to follow all of our idiotic, unrealistic, centralized regulations if you want to do business with us" then the EU is, whatever else it thinks it is, a threat.

We will have NO say in making EU laws, we will have to implement them without complaint.

AFAICT the UK had no real say in making EU laws before Brexit.

And if what you write is true, then from the cold-blooded British interest point of view, there's no reason for the EU to exist and the UK should actively work towards its dissolution as the EU cannot serve British interests anymore than the Warsaw pact could serve Polish interests....

Love / Polish mother of my child - 'No money, no daughter' - ADVICE NEEDED [46]

You need a lawyer and you need to lay your cards on the table with your ex.

1. You want access to you child, you're willing to support said child financially within your limits (but not defraud the welfare system)

2. She's given you no reason to trust her - you need a dna test before proceeding. There are enough women in the world who will try to trick a man into supporting a child that isn't his that no man can really afford to trust a woman concerning the paternity of a child she wants money for. DNA testing should be 100% universal with no exceptions.

the KOD gang, who are doing everything possible to derail the democratcially elected govnerment

Because the democratically elected government is doing everything possible to destroy the rule of law (fundamental building block of western civilization) and replace it with the rule of party leader (fundamental building block of totalitarianism).

If the party leader weren't busy tryijng to wipe his 4ss with the constitution then the members of KOD would be happy to let him wreck the economy with unsustainable giveaways.

Change a few words and Polly's first post here could be a 1981 PAP press release about the destructive and dangerous influence of Solidarity against socialism, which most people in Poland support.

Polly, you are pure beton partyjny (look it up in wikipedia)

History / 60th anniversary of the Poznan uprising! [60]

Don't forget he humiliated her directly after the elections that she won for him by floating rumors of a different PM.

I assumed JK wasn't interested in women romantically, I hadn't realized he was quite that misogynistic though...

Plus of course the fact that immigration is good for the economy.

That's repeated a lot but not necessarily true. If it were then all Greece would have to do is attract a lot of immigrants from the middle east to start raking in the euros.

What is undeniably true is the prosperity attracts immigrants and lots of low skilled immigrants make like even more fun for those who were already doing well as they make it possible to hire low-wage domestic workers and the like (and they allow employers to keep wages artificially low). It's also good for property speculators as it drives housing costs up.

Immigration is like any other social policy - it can have its upsides and it can have its downsides. Completely eliminating it and completely throwing the doors open are both dysfunctional in different ways.

People of great stature, achievement and prominence, providential statesmen and sterling patriots

I'm talking about any of those, I'm aksing about Macierewicz. And no, you do not have an answer beyond your typical irrational hatred of the rule of law in favor of rule by Big Man (i.e. party boss).

Google it; a lot of discussion at the moment.

Pretty thin bananas... seems to boil down to "Hulk smash Brexit! Reasons!"

you can't even change the structure of a company with less than a 66% vote, so good luck with making the biggest change in most people's lives on the basis of a 1.9% majority in a non-binding referendum...

If leaving the EU is equivalent to the biggest change in most people's lives then the EU is a problem that needs to be dialed back some.

The result of the Referendum is NOT what the minority wanted

What's really interesting is all the young radicals demonstrating to preserve the status quo!

The left is officially dead.

Long live the new political division between nationalists and globalists!

Macierewicz is not only a government minister

So what standing does all this (even if it were true, which it's not) give him to tell the local government in Poznan how to obsere the anniversary of the 1956 uprising?

So what standing does all this (even if it were true, which it's not) give him

Still waiting for an answer to this question that doesn't involve conspiracy theories from 1992 or a lot of gossip and name calling.

Will I receive one?

History / 60th anniversary of the Poznan uprising! [60]

they were the ones resposible for organising the ceremony so yes, it was up to them what they wanted to do and how they wanted it to look like

yes, who the hell is Macierewicz to tell local elected authorities how to organize memorial events.

When you take away polly's hysteria, the facts are

1. The military were invited to participate
2. The military unacceptable demands as conditions to their participation
3. These conditions disqualified their participation in the view of those responsible for organizing the event.

Only silly, infantile personalities would get upset at this.

History / 60th anniversary of the Poznan uprising! [60]

Did you know that Porozumienie Centrum, the precursor of PiS, were the only party wtih no ex-commies in their ranks.

Considering the dismal incompetence of PC, not having any party members was hardly an endorsement (or wise policy - most of the competent people had joined the party for professional not ideological reasons).

Of course the Mayor of Poznan (a very popular and well-regarded person) wouldn't allow a serious event to become undignified in that way.

Yes he did. I won't speak to his overall popularity but PiS did not gain any friends in the city of the first Polish anti-communist uprising.

the air accident in Smolensk (he believes it wasn't an accident).

He's starting to convince me that it wasn't an accident. But my suspicions are more centered on a certain current ruling party and a certain brother who has certainly gained a lot since his twin's unfortunate demise. Who's to say this obsessive witch hunt is not just a smoke screen to cover up who's really to blame? The question the is, is Macierewicz a useful tool being manipulated by very dark forces or is he complicent in purposefully trying to dsitract attention away from the culpable?

History / 60th anniversary of the Poznan uprising! [60]

Your running rough-shod over the pain and suffering of dozens of bereaved families who lost loved ones in that national tragedy

The ones running roughshod over it are the ones who try to use it to usurp solemn memorials about other events like the noble Poznan uprising, the first chip in the wall of the PRL.... oh that's why PiS hates the poznan uprising because it brought down their preferred system of government.
