USA, Canada / Dual citizenship - US doesn't care if you don't give up Polish passport [103]

Smallpox does tend to give one a warm and fuzzy feeling.

That doesn't necessarily mean renounce citizenship, though, does it? I was under the impression this oath of allegiance is just some glittery tradition designed to give a warm fuzzy feeling inside, like most American traditions.

I suppose it is now as the concept of individual nations is kind of floating into the distance.

USA, Canada / Dual citizenship - US doesn't care if you don't give up Polish passport [103]

She is playing by the rules. She is in the US legaly, works, and pays taxes.

The rules are, if she wants to become an American citizen, she has to renounce her allegiance to any other states. That is what citizenship implies.

Secret clearance is not granted to resident aliens.

Nor is it usually granted to naturalized citizens who still hold citizenship of a foreign country.

They complain enough about US citizens having lived in foreign countries, good luck on trying to get it as a naturalized citizen. You might want to have a back up job, because you'll be waiting a long ass time to get it.

Yet you keep replying. You are the one using my nation for benefits and you have the nerve to say anything to me?

When someone has busted their ass paying into a scam like social security, they deserve to get every penny back out of it.

Life / COMBATING "POLACK" JOKES [460]

I read what you said and I just want to say OH BOY YOU ARE FUNNY!!!!

I don't get it. Are you getting offended because of uncyclopedia? If so, that's hilarious in itself.

But seriously here, I would suggest doing some research into satire, particularly the use of irony. If you didn't like uncyclopedia...you're going to hate sickipedia.

Many of my Jewish friends tell me that Germany is spelled as GERM-any because GERMans are naturally demonic and evil.

Yes it's true, May 19th is whack-a-jew day in Germany (whack-a-polak day is sometime in September.).

History / WAS KATYŃ GENOCIDE? Polish officers were killed [237]

Considering that they did the exact same thing when they came to power 20 years earlier, I would say they just weren't too fond of a certain class of people...Especially people that would form the core of any resistance to the new bosses. G'night

History / WAS KATYŃ GENOCIDE? Polish officers were killed [237]

Actually, this IS from wikipedia. I read this passage numerous times (referring to the 3rd conference). Now the article does not have the passage. Wonder why.

Could you give us a source for that passage? I couldn't find it anywhere. The neat thing is you can look through the revisions... Didn't manage to find any source to that whatsoever.

Comeon man, you've got to have something better than a quote that came from an American reporter. Something that wasn't included in the evidence at Nuremberg because it couldn't be backed up by anything.

Generalplan Ost called for Poles to be deported to Siberia. I believe the crazy little Austrian wrote about it while he was in jail as well.

Life / Mixed race girl in Poland, good idea? [149]

I am aware of this. But I don't believe that colour of the skin has anything to do with racism.

The skin color in this case is just used to identify that the person is of a different race.

Exept some loony-psychos, this situation is non-existent in Poland. Even more - It never existed in the past.

This is where you lose me completely.

Life / Mixed race girl in Poland, good idea? [149]

Come on - how can you be aggressive in reaction to colour? Any colour? That is mad.
Of course - I can hate a person. Maybe dislike a dog. But colour? Nah - I haven't got any personal feelings towards colours.
For instance - if I get tanned - should I dislike myself? Crazy idea.

You are aware that there is racism in the world right? You understand that concept? That someone can be attacked because of the color of their skin? That some people treat others differently based on the color of their skin. Some are even singled out because of their nationality, or their religion. That happens today. It's happened all throughout history. If you're sitting on a tram and someone starts making comments about monkeys running wild in Poland, guess what, racist.

It's not the comment that is the problem, it's who it's targeted at, and why. If the criteria on whether to call someone a c*nt or not lies with the color of the persons skin, that is racist.

Back to the original question, there are much, much, much more racist places in the world than Poland. You probably aren't going to have much of a problem on a visit other than being treated as a curiosity every once in a while.

Being rude, offensive and aggressive is not the same as being racist.

When you're rude, offensive, or aggressive in reaction to someones skin color, that's racism.

So if i'm walking with my buddy, we hear czarnuch, it'd be alright to beat the holy hell out of the person that mouthed it? I mean, he's offended and all..

Which of this statement is racists and why?

How about "Lazy thieving Polak"? Is that racist? It's not when I'm drinking with friends. It is when I'm screaming it in the neighborhood after my car was just broken into. Right?

Real Estate / Mortgage in Poland (rules, rates, types, websites)? [26]

By recovering, do you mean to a level where it benifits the people of Poland...or do you mean the bubble is going to remain and the people will continue to be punished by greed? Recover??

there won't be bailouts this time though.

USA, Canada / Dual citizenship - US doesn't care if you don't give up Polish passport [103]

Must you do this ceremony to obtain a U.S. passport?

yes

There are lots of naturalized dual citizens. Lots of people from the 51st up north, and the 52nd down south... famous people at that.

As an American, you're also legally obliged to give up your US citizenship if you seek out citizenship in another country.

Honestly, I think that naturalized citizens should be required to give up their previous citizenship. That is, do the ceremony, and then have some sort of grace period where the person can renounce their citizenship.

Life / Doctors taking bribes in Poland [76]

It's not a question of being proud of it or not. The question is does it happen. I think that's an honest question. Trying to silence someone from mentioning it is shameful at best. If it is happening, it needs to be made public, or it won't go away.

History / How was Poland compensated after World War 2 [47]

Ofc they won (the war against Nazi Germany)
The war against Soviet Union is an other matter

Strange because I don't remember there being a second republic after '39. The state was annihilated.

Thats a pretty arrogant thing to say.

So have you been turned down service, or do you know of anyone that has been turned down service due to not paying a bribe?

Life / Do you think a smoking ban would be a good thing in Polish restaurants and Bars? [217]

Alcohol also causes dysfunctional households, crime, injuries, and death...Not to mention the economic effects of drunks. Second hand smoke has been proven time and time again to have a trivial affect on peoples health. You are just annoyed by it, which is fair enough.

who.int/whosis/mort/profiles/mort_euro_pol_poland.pdf - Lung diseases are a distant third on the list

Maybe it was a perticularly clear sky and they wanted to see the stars. Every country has its customs. I wouldn't be sitting outside in freezing cold, anyway not when I went out to have fun. Or maybe it wasn't so cold. But that's just me:)

This is exactly what you're going to get. You want to go out with friends that smoke, you mentioned that earlier. They're going to spend a lot of time outside. Now you're not really spending much time with them anymore, and you might as well have gone to the non smoking place to begin with. Seriously, try it out. Go out with your smoking friends to a non smoking bar here. Just see what happens. Report back to us and let us know how it went.

Life / Proper dose of life in Poland... the harsh realities. [64]

Bwahahahahaha. Gwahahahahahahahaha.

Tough is getting a visa extension in Dushanbe. Tough is trying to get a permit to work on contract in Samarkand. Residence permit in Poland? boo hoo. The folks in the video come off as whiners.

Life / Typical Examples of Polish Parking Entitlement (post yours) [57]

See you'd think so, but most women actually park pretty decently. It's just the mindless merging and stopping in the middle of the street that is problematic... Most assclown parking jobs that I've seen have been perpetrated overwhelmingly by men

Life / Do you think a smoking ban would be a good thing in Polish restaurants and Bars? [217]

Hmmm. Can you elaborate on this please?

It's with regards to the survey.

Do you support smokers being able smoke next to you while you are having a meal?

Do you support the government should have more control of your private property?

Do you support lowering the cost of smoking related diseases on the national healthcare system?

Do you think small business owners should be more tightly regulated?

All of those questions could be part of the survey. Even better, depending on who you ask, you will get different responses. If you go out and ask people in front of a football match if smoking should be banned, you'll probably get stabbed. If you ask the same question in front of a student dormitory, you will probably get your 80% response.

The best way to gauge the public, ask the people in the pubs...then ask people on the streets...then make that information very public so that owners can see it. If there is a business case, the majority of the pubs will very quickly be non smoking...

- I'm happy to treat this "ban" as a kind of government's health policy. If bar proprietors decide to have a smoking bar, then I really don't mind.

Sweet, then problem solved. Put a notice on the door that smoking occurs on the premises, and then you have it solved. Be careful about the health policy argument. Alcohol and fatty foods are more of a health risk that smoking in Poland.

Life / Do you think a smoking ban would be a good thing in Polish restaurants and Bars? [217]

Anyway, if it is not a "majority position" then why according to surveys 80% people support the ban? Democracy is unfortunately about majorities (or false-majorities) deciding about all...

Are you talking about a majority of people in the EU, in Poland, Students, pub patrons?

Depending on what you're selling, who you're selling it to, and how your selling it will get you different results. The comments in the forum are interesting...

Democracy is, but Republics aren't democracies. There are certain ground rules that have to be respected. One of those is property rights.

With any luck pubs will then turn into private clubs like in Germany and get around any kind of ban that might come up.

History / Chance of Lwów once again became coming part of Poland [344]

Ok why doesn't Poland just receive Kaliningrad Oblast as compensation from Russia

No, I mean fixing the German cities before you talk about Lwow... Lwow is a fixer-upper. There are still a couple of renovation projects underway, Wroclaw is one of them. Maybe get that out of the way first.

I do not believe in voting, however, it has just been approved by the Polish parliament that THE SMOKING BAN IS INTRODUCED.
Well, addicts, you shall adjust now to the majority.

Heh, it's not a majority position. If it were, there would already be way more non smoking bars than smoking bars because people run businesses to make money.

Anyway, I've decided to once again take a break from smoking. Maybe it's time to join the fascist anti-private property alliance?

Life / COMBATING "POLACK" JOKES [460]

Nazis were Darwinian Socialists too. Does Darwin and Socialism get a free pass yet Polish jokes dont?

Perhaps more significantly, most Nazis were members of the Catholic and Protestant churches.
