Great,
I am not so good at Polish.
I did not know they had been here.

History / The Celts in Poland. [71]

I found this very interesting for serendipitous reasons.
Celtic site found in Poland
It is in Polish but basically it talks about 17 Celtic houses from 280 - 277 B.C.
Found in Niepolomice, Poland. Apparently they had glass too. Here is a photo of the site and a bracelet

There is also a stage set up for various Christmas carols and singing.

There are also outside markets in the market square during the Christmas and Easter period.

They sell hot mould wine, lots of handmade crafts and famous Polish cuisine.

The bread looking things (the last pic) are actually different types of smoked/sheep/goat/cow milk cheeses.

Life / Polish and Slavic Art [48]

To the victors the spoils

I can only imagine all the fine art that Poland lost during the various wars.

Can anyone show us some sculpture, please?.

All these paintings and sculptures were moved to the castle in Niepolomice while the Sukinnice (Krakow) is being renovated.
The great thing about this move is that they are planning to leave certain works on permanent display in Niepolomice, that were previously unseeable in the basement in the Sukinnice in Krakow :)

Some wonderful works for sure.
Krakow is an open roof museum.

How did Krakow end up with a Leonardo Da Vinci?

Józef Chełmoński: "Czwórka"

Thanks, that's the one.

Again digital format does not do the painting justice but I hope at least it will spark an interest.
When you stand in front of this painting, you feel like you are going to get hit and there is no way to jump out of the way.

This is the famous Krakow market square.
In the centre of the square is the Sukinnice (cloth market) the building in the middle of the photo.
It houses many stalls that sell all sorts of polish produce.

I still can't find the artist of the name of the painting with the horses.
But they are doing reconstruction work to the Sukinnice (clth market) in Krakow market square and they very cleverly put up barriers with the paintings on them.

So does anyone know this very famous painting?

Life / Reasons for moving to Poland [291]

I thought i could live in poland but i cant:( i no thats sad hmm? its just not the place for me. I always wanted to live in paris but i never got the chance: now thats sad hmmm?

It's not really.
Most people I know would not want or like to move from where they are.
People who move from country to country are in the minority.
So it is not so sad, at least you tried :) which is more than most people do.
Put it down to experience.
Well, I don't know Paris, I get very mixed reviews about the place, have you been?
Or is it like one of those romantic ideas of how wonderful Paris is in the
the Spring?

Yeah,
fair enough,
different strokes for different folks.

So are you going to live here and there?.
Or have you made up your mind yet?

It is not easy to learn Polish but over 40,000,000 people speak it, so so can you:)

I know it is difficult when you have to leave a country for financial reasons.
It has happened to me before, it feels like the choice was made for you.

All I can say that will help you, is to learn the language, it helps an awful lot.

Buy a few aeroplane tickets home so you will not miss it so much.

I have only ever gotton homesick once, not in this country and things were really bad at the time, I just jumped on a plane and flew home.

I love Ireland, it is my birth place and I will always feel very close to it, even if i am not but I just felt it was time for me to move on.

"When I was a child, I spoke like a child, thought like a child, and reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up my childish ways."

This quote, Is kind of what it is for me, I have made my life outside of Ireland but like my childhood i will cherish her.

Life / Reasons for moving to Poland [291]

A few different reasons.
It rains too much.
I love to travel.
I feel that if I were to move back, that I would be moving backwards in my life.
I don't feel like I have anything to move back to, everything has changed there and I have changed.
I get very frustrated there after a couple of weeks, too many ghosts, you know memories of things past, some great, some not so great.

Hi Shelly,

I am going to Ireland for the X-mas too :)
I do not miss ireland so much, sometimes.
But I do not want to live in Ireland.
I might move from here in a few years, I don't know where to.
But who knows anything can happen in a few years.
Take care of yourself.
And keep in touch.

and what's the story behind this building? what's the name of the building?

Well given what looks like a machine gun nest and a big metal door with what looks like barbed wire on top, I would guess it is a prison?
