Genealogy / How common is it for other people of Polish origin to discover they are actually Jewish? [127]

and that is 'racist' how????
It's always struck me as very sensible, after all you can be far surer of who your mother is than your father.

( yehudi)A non-Jew who converts to the Jewish religion officially before a Jewish religious court becomes a Jew. If she's a woman, her children born after that will automatically be Jews.

Unless they wish to attend the Jewish Free School in North London that is..:)

Genealogy / How common is it for other people of Polish origin to discover they are actually Jewish? [127]

to say they're hard working is an understatement. All of them are successes, but they also put a vast amount of time into learning, studying and practising - far more than their non-Jewish compatriots.

so very true....my kid told me he "wants to be Jewish so he can be rich", I told him to get off his azz at school then, like they do.

History / Chance of Lwów once again became coming part of Poland [344]

where I quote from wikipedia

I doubt very much that you edit it, the point is though, that Wiki is not a quotable source, as anyone, with any agenda, could have written anything on there, that is its essence.

Life / 'Turkish' Conmen on the A4/E40 Krakow-Wrocław stretch.... [25]

Has it happened to anyone before?, i'm keen to hear your story

yes on the M1 in UK, I am embarrassed to say I got ripped for 30 quid, exactly the same scam. I had been driving alone with two kids for hours, is my only excuse. It was the hungry wife and kids thing that got me......

Travel / My trip to Krakow and its ups and downs. [70]

Maybe it was a linguistic error, and what the skinhead MEANT to say was "we don't like scousers"....
in fact maybe some troublemaking bored English teacher in Krakow has been teaching their students all the wrong things? They could have even published a phrase book!! YOu know, like the Hungarian phrase book in Monty Python.....

Language / More than one type of love (linguistically speaking) [11]

IN Polish, does "miłość" refer only to romantic love? Are there words for other kinds of love, for example, maternal, fraternal, friendship etc? I know in Greek there are many words for love, and fear I may have just sent someone an inappropriate message......

Help!!?

Law / Is running a business in Poland very profitable? [33]

Sports World is a downmarket shop for chavs,

not really "chavs" more for normal families, for example, it sells all the top shoe brands, just cheaper,or cricket or ski gear at reasonable prices.

My outlaws go crazy in there.

News / Multi-culti (in Poland) -- roadmap to disaster? [344]

but still that's not what this thread is supposed to be about,is it? Have you actually read the OP? this thread continues to be rant, rant, rant in quite a random fashion.

Isthatu my best moment is when the annoying Irish bloke (dylan moran) is dragged backwards out of the pub window and eaten by zombies.

News / Multi-culti (in Poland) -- roadmap to disaster? [344]

OK...
it's quite a silly thread anyway, but here goes...
the term "multi cultural" is not a synonym for mass immigration, as it being used here.
It is actually a doctrine or policy whereby all religions and cultures are valued equally within society and particularly in the education system.
For example in a school, children would learn about Eid or Diwali along with Christian stuff.
Whether or not you agree with this doctrine, its irritating to have the term bandied about wrongly, especially when people abbreaviate it to "multi kulti" and use it almost abusively.

Obviously it's not going to happen in Poland as Poland was never a colonial power, and the Catholic church will dominate teaching and education. They are not about to start teaching about Ramadan in schools there are they?

So as I say,it's quite a silly thread, an excuse for rants about immigration.
There, was that on topic?
Isthatu have u seen "Run fat boy run"?

Language / Would you find this way of presenting a language useful or confusing? [11]

Many of these pieces are simply inappropriate for foreign people studying Polish. Even advanced learners will probably find them too difficult to follow. But the very simple things that are presented look fine.

well it looks alot more engaging than more traditional language sites, and putting chunks of grammar into real situations seems a great idea to me (speaking as a low level learner of Polish as well as a language teacher) Maybe you underestimate language learners Zeimowit?
