News / Poland's election winning party: PIS proclamations [229]

when it's in power

Common courtesy requires at least a 100-day grace period for a new party to get its act together without incessant attacks and attempted sabotage.

News / Poland's election winning party: PIS proclamations [229]

looking for desperate ways

If they went ahead with 500 zł for every child, even the first and even those of wealthy parents, you'd be ther first to attack them for being reckless and financially irresponsible. But since PiS has tempered their social sensitivity with financial realism, your ilk are fuming that they are not keeping their campaign promises. The bottom line is that PO toadies like yourself are not interested in a fair and balanced evaluation but only in desperate nit-picking and fault-finding. Funny that you kept silent at all the abuses, misdeeds and ill-considered moves of the Platformers over the past 8 years.

fed up with PO

The 4Bs (Bufoonish Brit Bully Badmouths) who usually have a ready answer for everything are somehow strangely silent as they see their beloved crook & scam party Platforma disntegrate before their very eyes. Here' s a suggested argument: PiS won the 25th Oct. election only because all its elderly supporters still have landlines. Oops, that won't work. Voting by phone still isn't an option. LOL!

PiS

PETRU'S NOWOCZESNOŚĆ OVERTAKES PO

The latest survey by pollster Estymator for Newsweek showed Poles' political preferences as follows:
Prawo i Sprawiedliwość
(including Solidarna Polska & Polska Razem) - 42%
Nowoczesna - 17%
Platforma - 16%
Kukiz'15 - 8%
Korwin, PSL & United Left - 4%

The results clearly show that Poles are thoroughly fed up with PO and their temper tantrums and theatrical gestures such as storming out of the Sejm and holding a bile-spewing presser on the stairs outside. There have been predictions that the Platform may find itself at or below the 5% threshold by the next election. At this rate, that may occur within the year. As Lincoln one put it, "You can't full all the people all the tinme!"

Life / Remedy for a common cold the Polish way - *extract of penis* ? [40]

extract of penis

A similar anecdote is told about the late French president. When he was retiring, a reporter asked Madam de Gaulle what she looked forward to in retirement and she replied: "A penis!" The president broke in with: "My dear, I don't think it's pronounced that way. It is 'appiness!" (The French do not pronounce the letter "h".)

News / Poland directly threatened by ISIS. Do Islamists planning terrorist attacks in Poland? [390]

support for ISIS

The problem of expanding aggressive Islam would not exist in its present form were it not for the clueless fuzzy-brained liberals and bleeding-heart leftists. Apparently they do not realise that when Islam takes over it is the libs, leftists, libertines, pornographers, feminists, homos, cross-dressers and other freaks who will be first in line for decapitation. The West's ISIS-backers are like moths flying into a flame!

Please stick to the topic - is Poland really in danger of terrorist attacks?

Please stick to the topic

At this time Poland does not seem directly threatened. But since Polish troops had taken part in US-led military expeditions to Muslim countries and only one or two extremists suffice to launch a high-fatality attack -- that can never be ruled out.

Genealogy / Schalwig, Grittner, Schulz, Schmit, Szot, Bernat, Szwarc - were my ancestors Germans in Silesia, or Silesians? [22]

1) Szulc (Schulz. Schultz) village mayor - contraction of Schultheiß; the latter produced the Polish Sołtys.

2) Szmit (Schmit, Schmidt, Schmied) blacksmith

3) Szot (Schott) Scotsman

4) Bernat (Bernhardt) - The Bernat element could be of Polish, Czech, Hungarian or German origin, whilst the patronymci ending -wicz is exclusively Polish.

5) Szwarcowicz (Schwartz) patronymic from Szwarc

6) Miller, Miler (Müller) miller)

7) Sznajder (Schneider) tailor

8) Fiszer (Fischer) fisherman

9) Majer (Meyer) freeholder

NOTE: When borders got shifted and a new set of rulers took over, some people found it expedient to translate their names. During the Nazi occupation a Krawiec, Rybak and Kowal might have chosen Schneider, Fischer and Schmidt respectively. After the war a reverse process ensued.

News / Poland's Parliament adopting a 70% severance tax of departing state company bosses [21]

The Interia business website has reported the Sejm adopting a 70% tax on the severance packets of departing state company bosses. That area had been full of abuses wtih exaggeratedly high severance pay paid out to state-tresasury company bosses. PiS had called for a 65% tax and surprisngly all the Sejm's political parties agreed in principle but thought that was too low and upped the ante to 70%. Indeed a rare display of inter-party cooperation!

Life / HIV/AIDS growing in Poland - more fear of pregnancy than STDs [82]

More and more Poles especially in the 20-39 age group are carriers of HIV, Rzeczpospolita reported Poland's National Public Health Institute as sayin on their website. During the first half of 2015 179 new cases were registered compared with a mere 46 in the same period last year. Young Poles are more concerned about avoiding pregnancy than STDs, the report stated. Many believe HIV/AIDS is restricted to high-risk groups such as "drug addicts, homosexuals and celebrities fond of experimenting," explained MD Barbara Daniluk-Kula of the National AIDS Centre.

News / Poland's political party to ban pornography? [60]

PO's site and Gazeta

Any evidence to back up that allegation? On the contrary, I would advocate more openness and transparency. No anonymous poison-pen comments or anonymous forums like PF. One gets the impression that some (many?) on PF are hiding behind their nicks and are more interested in mud-slinging than discussing various issues. If everyone was required to, I would not mind listing my full name, postal address/email address, even phone number. Many posters would change their tune so as not to make total fools of themselves and stop pretending to be someone they're not. Also listowners should be conspiscuously presented with country and full contact data.

governments are not doing thi

And we all know why. Governments are made up of people and every multi-billion-dollar lobby knows whom to visit to get their way. Other than porn, another crippler of people and families is gambling. If governments really were "for the nation" as politicians claim, they would also do something to restrict commercial gaming/betting which drives the growing plague of gambloholism. If they did, however, who would provide the hefty kickbacks?!

But what about the PF's pro-market types? Market economics is not about freebees and handouts but pay as you go. One wonders what their reason is to oppose paid porn on the web?!

internet freedoms

What would you say to have only pay to view porn on the net removing all the free stuff. If an adult fancies that sort of thing, let him pay for it. That way minors would not have easy access.

Death and The Maiden enriches any culture

Have you seen it that you can authoritatively say it enriches anything? Wasn't Min. Gliński taken to task for criticisng the play without first having seen or read it? If it really is pornographic it enriches nothing and only promotes disoluteness and depravity. Such producitons should be allowed only as a private commercial ventures for those who enjoy wallowing in filth.

BTW no decent Polish girl wanted to be associated with such an abomiantion so they had to send away for porno-sluts from godless Bohemia.

News / How would Poland change for the better (or worse) under a PiS government? [257]

Merged: Min. Morawiecki to boost Polish entrepreneurship

Mateusz Morawiecki, 47, as Dep. PM and Development Min., intends to actively promote Polish entrepreneurship, something Balcerowicz should have done rather than selling off Polish indusrtial assets to foreign capital for a song. His dad is the legendary anti-communist underground fighter Kornel Morawiecki, now Senior Marshal of the Sejm. Mateusz has followed in his father's footsteps and was involved in the anti-communist student movement and produced samizdat literature. This year he gave up a top post in the Satander-owned WBK bank (earning some 3 mln zł a year) to serve Poland which he regards as an honour. Not too many people like that about! He intends to support small, medium and large Polish firms to move up into more advanced technology (away from unprocessed or semi-processed goods). That will require training more skilled employees, boost exports and lead to flourishing companies which can afford to pay higher taxes. Morawiecki looks forward to a GDP of 4%.

Food / Your single best-liked Wigilia dish? [29]

Kutia

An easy way to make it is to use bulgur wheat which is cracked and cooks up much quicker. Although wheatberries are the most traditional, kutia can also be made with pearl barley or rice. The other ingredients: poppyseeds, honey, raisins, walnut meats (optional) remain the same.

Inedible? Polish Wiglia dishes are to die for!!!!!! The UK's roast turkey, mushy, gassy Brussels sprouts and Christmas pudding pale in comparison.

News / Polish Minister of Agriculture stops foreign land-grab in Poland [24]

Podlasie.

Well, Podlasie with its primeval Puszcza still must have some redeeming traits as it was chosen by the French film-makers of "Les saisons" as one of the world's most unique pristine habitats. I'm no dendrologist, but they felt it was reminsicnet of the virgin woodlands that covered Europe thousands of years ago.

And who destroyed them: greedy, blood-sucking capitalist slime!

It's wetland and what is the fuss?

K is not God and not everyone has to know about ecology. That's where we differ. To you the Tusk-Kopacz clique could do no wrong. At least no-one recalls you criticisng any of their policies. Whatever the case, indiscriminate development causing urban, industrial or recreational sprawl at the expense of pristine or at least natural habitats should not be tolerated regardless of who will be lining their pockets.

So you think they should be illegally sold? They are not form opium poppies, after all. Please clarify. Christmas without kluski z makiem, kutia or makowiec would not be complete.

Who ruined the Polish countryside

This was about fake tenders used to transfer farmland into foreign hands. Many things have destroyed the land to mention only America's Smithfield Foods contaminating the soil and atmosphere with a huge volume of pig waste. And the urban sprawl (indiscriminate housing development) is another thing that should be curbed or restricted to protect the country' shrinking natural habitats.

News / Polish Minister of Agriculture stops foreign land-grab in Poland [24]

UNITED RIGHT GOVERNMENT IS ON THE MARCH:
Poland's new farm minister Krzysztof Jurgiel has sacked the PSL-linked president of the State Agricultural Land Agency and stopped until further notice all tenders for the sale or lease of state farmland. The protection of farmland from (PO-style -- pol3) abuses was among PiS' election pledges. Some 200,000 hectares of Polish agrticultural land has been sold to foreign speculators through the use of Polish "słupy" (frontmen). That isn't as bad as Hungary where a million hectares have fallen into foreign hands.

about the use of public funds

It was about the use of public funds to propagate depravatory or morally suspect content. Doing so would mean the state endorses such contamination of public space at the taxpayer's expense. Sickies who enjoy wallowing in filth have plenty of opportunities to do so since pornography as such is not banned. It is even shown on late-night TV in Poland.

mohair-bereted old biddies

Yes, you would love to entrench such a false stereotype. In fact, if you had bothered to watch the TV coverage you would have seen the human chain was made up mainly of young ladies and men.

Nothing to do with theocracy. Min. Gliński said he is open to the "off" scene and all kind of cultural experimentation but there will be no agreement to bankroll pornography wtih public funds.
