News / PiS to force every hard working, low earning Polish family to pay for TV [96]

hasn't been a mandatory

The radio-TV fee was paid by everyone because almost no-one lacked at least a wireless receiver. So how much is that "exorbitant" tax a year?

And since when are the greedy, arrogant pro-corporate elitists so concerned about Poland's little guy? Only if it can be used to clobber PiS, you f*cking hypocrites!

extra tax

A TV-radio fee has been around for years -- only expat foreigners are discovering something "new" (only to them). And the fee is not exorbitant.

What is exorbitant are utlity bills -- gas, electricity, water are among the highest in Europe, but wages are not.

DO NOT have a TV or a radio

Have they changed that? Used to be only those with a TV set or radio paid the fee. The problem is how to prove it other than having an inspector visit your flat. The honour system? A sense of honour is quite rare in modern times, it's every man for himself.

What's wrong,

What's wrong is that a*sehole Tusk publicly stated that no-one pays the TV tax and many people stopped paying. If the head honcho said that then why should we...., etc., etc.?

Up till then all decent law-abiding Poles dutifully paid the modest fee. This is not some new tax as PO toadies allege, only the reinstitution of a time-honoured procedures informally and illegally aborted by the PO regime.

News / Adam Michnik awarded for integrity, professionalism and high standards. Poland's No. 1 fascist? [321]

for what he's done

What he's done is hijack Solidarity's newspaper and turn it into a KOR-ite rag amd private geszeft of his cronies, promote his own kind, revile patriots as traitors and hail traitors as "men of honour", conduct a Pole-bashing editorial line and promote anarcho-libertinism to mention but a few of his "achievements". And he has never publilcy disassociated himself from his family of communuist criminals. Apparently they were all of the "correct" ethnicity and that automatically lets them off the hook. He ranks with Balcerowicz amongst Poland's most detested characters. BTW, R U 1 2?

Life / Is it common for Polish people to speak English in Poland? [122]

Merged: Poles better EFL speakers than Germans and Austrians?

Poles are reportedly in the top 10 of the world's most proficient EFL speakers. It's obvious that the Nordic countries are front-runners but for Poland to exceed Germany and Austria is a bit hard to believe. Any EFL teachers out there who could comment?

News / Adam Michnik awarded for integrity, professionalism and high standards. Poland's No. 1 fascist? [321]

No. 1

It's all because of the craftiness of a certian ethnicity. Wałęsa foolishly entrusted the Solidarity paper to the son of communist traitors. The son promptly hijacked it and behind Solidarity's back turned it into the mouthpiece of his leftist ethnicity and a private business and bit the hand (of Wałęsa) that had fed him. The ex-KOR-ites felt Wałęsa had done his thing (Murzyn zrobił swoje, Murzyn może odejść) and should return ot Gdańsk and let the "secular left" (laica lewicka) run the country. By the time all this became generally known people had become accustomed to GW since habit is second nature. The Michnikites used their arsenal of crafty tricks and ruses plus all kinds of come-ones and gimmicks to attract and keep gullible readers. Nobody is questioning their unmatched devious craftiness and shrewdness. As it is said -- Geschäft ist Geschäft! And in a nutshell that's the story of the Kosher Gazette.

educated people

There are wykształceni and wykształciuchy. But those finepoints go over your head. Don't ask the Loudmouth Blowhard, because he doesn't know either.

Genealogy / Schalwig, Grittner, Schulz, Schmit, Szot, Bernat, Szwarc - were my ancestors Germans in Silesia, or Silesians? [22]

are of non-Polish origin themselves

They can be. Point is with surnames anything is possible. Polish root, foreign ending; foreign root, Polish ending; also third-language roots and endings. Names are not necessarily indicative of nationality. One example is Szmitkowski -- German root, Polish patornymic ending. Border shifts, inter-marriage, voluntary or coerced name changing, illiteracy, alternative spellings and a host of other cimcumstances often buried in the mists of time have all impacted the field of onomastics, making it frequently impossible to determine why a specfic family uses a given surname. The easiest is a linguistic analysis of a surname, and that too is not always all that straightforward.

human rights commission?

Konrad Wallenrod!

openly condoning

For years you have openly condoned handing Poland's finances (finance min., C-bank head) over to an ex-commie employed in the regime's Institute of Basic Problems of Marxism-Leninism. It's not only a matter of his pre-1989 background but mainly of his post-1989 misdeeds and disachievements. His so-called "plan" caused widespread unemployment and miksery and he was single-handedly responsible for destroying Poland's industrial assets and transferring them for a song to foreign capital interests. And no-one has ever heard a peep out of you or your expat Pole-bashers about that!?

a single opinion poll

You ain't seen nothing yet, baby! Look forward to one or two more double-digit ones and then down, down, down, below the threshold. And it won't be any too soon to see the bankster-scamster scum scatter, abandon their sophisticated white-collar crime (book-juggling, tender fixing, graft, kickbacks, etc.) and revert to salt-of-the-earth car theft, shoplifting and pickpocketing. You gonna join 'em?

Stop trying to justify

The only possible riposte is: 42% v 17%! In ordinary prose that translates into:
Stop trying to justify the inept crew of the sinking HMS Prime Offender. Better look about for a piece of flotsam, jestam or sh*tsam to hold onto or you'll go down with them.

not joining the party and not being a prosecutor?

I can see you didn't Google Kornad Wallenrod. Any Polish 10-year-old would know who that was. But clueless, parasitic Amglo-expats are like a malignant tumour growing on the healthy body of ther Polish nation!

communist-era prosecutor

The individual you are trying to discredit did everything possible under the circumstances to aid the accused and was taking a bigger risk than those distributing underground leaflets. If he didn't work at that job some gung-ho commie would have. Piotrowicz was effectively a Konrad Wallenrod (Google it for explanation).

P(rime) O(ffender)

Your beloved Prime Offenders were as crooked as they come, but also glib, clever, sly, crafty and sneaky about not getting caught. Bankster is one apt description because they were in the hip pocket of foreign bankers and corporations which received preferential tax breaks not available to indigenous Polish business. Naturally, they did so out of the goodness of their heart and absolutely accepted no hefty kickbacks(?!) for their effort.

this isn't about PO

The whole point of this thread is as skewed and distorted as PO and their legion of toadies. In fact it's downright laughable because the

P(rime) O(ffender) is sitting in judgement over
P(etty)i(nfraction)S.

criminals

Even if PiS wanted to, there wouldn't be enough cirminals to go round in order to replace those operating within PO. I've just learnt a new word -- bankster (cross between a banker and gangster) to describe the kind of people PO was established to serve.
