History / Polish-Hungarian border exchange? [60]

I concur roundly, Fehervary! Hungary though is no slouch when it comes to productivity, in fact, she had a stronger economy during the 90's when I was last there, than Poland:-)

Someday, I'm sure that the forint will go the way of the lira, franc, and deutschmark, taking her rightful place among the relics of a bygone era!

History / Polish-Hungarian border exchange? [60]

There are degree, gregy:-)

After all, Hungary must respect certain laws and even if it's Hungary's right not to allow migrants into her country, perhaps the entire EU ought to convene as a body and ask itself how it can make Europe less attractive to undocumented foreigners, instead of more! If foreigners find it less desirable to settle in countries such as France, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia etc., perhaps the governments of Syria, Saudi Arabia etc. will be induced to build up their own economies and there will be greater employment for all at home rather than always aboad!

Worth considering anyway.

Nonetheless folks, Orban finds himself between the proverbial rock and a hard place, literally, damned if he does and damned if he doesn't!
If he wants to become a member of the EU as well. he's going to have to change his tune:-)

I see from today's paper that Orban's going ahead with detaining even LEGAL migrants within his country!

Honestly, both he and Merkel are too extreme, she on the far left, he on the far right:-)

You just can't win.

Work / What should I study for easy job in Poland? [9]

@Ewa,

You unfortunately might well find a teaching position as an English-native speaker in Poland without a "degree", but surely not without at least some basic Polish under your belt!

Work / About Work permit for Student Visa in Poland [28]

Couldn't agree more, DominicB!

The question I've kept asking myself is why would someone from abroad no less, wish to come to Poland (for that matter, any non-native-English-speaking country) and study English rather than in the US, the UK, Australia or even Canada?

If it's a question merely of expense and that, for example, Poland is closer than the other countries mentioned, is it honestly worth it in the end being so penny-wise and pound foolish??!

Imagine a Senegalese going to America in order to study German, or a Lithuanian traveling to Italy to study Spanish etc..lol

This is just another classic example of globalism run amok:-) It makes no sense, even if it makes some cents))))

Life / Multiracial Poles [154]

Religion is an EXTREMELY strong point in Poland!!! Stronger even than in Spain, Italy or Ireland, where in the latter, people are constantly satirizing (often vulgarly) the entire premise of the Catholic Church.

In Poland, such is violently frowned upon by the average Pole, who considers himself a practicing Catholic. Why, even Jews may be seen attending mass, only to fit in to such a tightly traditional and still homogeneous societyLOL

Joke about anything in Poland, from sex to politics, but aside from certain big-city cabaret-style entertainment (mostly for foreigners), NEVER kid about Catholicism:-)

Life / Multiracial Poles [154]

Poles will at first be curious about you, after all, their culture is still overwhelmingly homogeneous. After the initial thawing period however, you'll find most Poles to be a kind and hospitable people:-)

Powodzenia! Boa sorte!

Life / Why are Muslims seen as a deterrent to Poland? [564]

The inroads made by cultures from lower-wage countries are to be sure jarring, perhaps even unnecessary, but as long as the industrialized nations continue to lust after cheaper and cheaper labor, there will be more presently Third World societies streaming en masse, unwanted (albeit invited) into the European continent!

Life / Why are Muslims seen as a deterrent to Poland? [564]

Syria, Saudi Arabia etc. are NOT "uncivilized" nations, Johnny, this is typically W.A.S.P. ethnocentrism. They've been around much longer than we, and, if you recall, brought algebra and medicine (the great medaeval doctor Rhazez) to Western Europe.

Fundamentalist extremism has marred their once much admired reputation for science and learning.

Feedback / Removal of Polish diacritical marks [45]

Guess our native Polish speakers are gonna have to figure out from context if one's referring to "piec" aka "five" vs. "piec-" referring to "baking" or some such thing:-) LOL Really unprofessional, not to mention just plain sloppy, of our Administrators!!

Yeah, well some of us are too busy to pay a visit, so let's see if in their infinite wisdom our mods might possibly restore the characters to the way they were:-)

Still a mystery to yours truly as to why they were removed in the first place, but then again, perhaps some things aren't worth finding out after all.

In that case, let's opt then for only Polish diacritics to prevent you people from mutilating my precious language!
