Police have forcibly moved demonstrators from outside the Sejm during the night. Not for any other reason that a show of strength which in fact didn't work. The police are unable (or unwilling and it should be said they are uncomfortable being used as a political pawn) to give any reason for that or more worryingly say under what legal grounds they did it. Also, the fire brigade have now been unwillingly politicised and used to build roadblocks.
It didn't work, since the crowds are now larger and another all nighters is expected.

Now, 500+ (entirely a cynical vote-grabber) acts in their favour and the opposition is so far fractured. It also depends on whether they'll go so far that there are sanctions and when the first major sleaze scandal emerges.

I live in Warsaw too. You obviously didn't see Nowy Swiat last night. It was quite flagrant.

I just had a look and couldn't see anything. All I remember is reading (probably online) about a camp and there was quite a detailed breakdown of sexes and nationalities. Plenty of Polish there, including clergy and religious - in fact I think they almost outnumbered British in that particular camp which was what struck me at the time. It wasn't the Oyama Inn Camp though; as I remember it was somewhere around the Straits Settlements.

Real estate, specifically land, prices in the posher areas around Warsaw have really fallen. Basically the well-to-do Poles are moving their money abroad.
We are also close to having sanctions from the rest of the Union.

The protesters were out again tonight, standing up for Poland. This one's not going to go away. The police have also been going in convoys up and down Nowy Swiat, again and again, basically a show of strength to intimidate and it should be said an unsuccessful one.

You can probably find it online, perhaps on Wikipedia. Some of the camps have their internees listed by nationality and I remember being surprised at the number of Poles in one of the camps. Many though not all were clergy and religious including a lot of nuns.

There were certainly plenty of Poles in Japanese internment camps during the war.
so that leads me to believe there were still Poles living there at the time and that Japanese allowed them to go about their lives without imprisoning or deporting them

Btw I was in Kielce twice recently, once for an art exhibition at WDK (and had a quick tour of the recording studios there) and once to a hotel for a meeting. The more I see of the city, the more I like it.

It's in everyone's best interest that Poland is stable - and stability here gets less by the day. Trump is in many ways an irrelevance here. The big issue is that domestic politics in Warsaw are deteriorating fast.
The man also has no ideological principles at all, so whether he decides to support Poland in any way will depend only on what he can get from it (and very good terms for him), not whether it is the 'right' thing to do by Poland and her people.
It's in everyone's best interest that Poland is stable - and stability here gets less by the day. Trump is in many ways an irrelevance here. The big issue is that domestic politics in Warsaw are deteriorating fast.

Who cares, the world can get by very nicely without America; indeed as a country it currently has more enemies than friends and that fool of a president-elect is likely to worsen the situation, not least as he is putty in Putin's hands. I look forward to the Democrat landslide four years from now, if indeed Washington isn't a smoking pile of rubble by then.
