Work / Studies In Poland, is it easy to survive on part-time jobs? [259]

Perhaps not entry level but like i wrote earlier - Google pays 2k usd plus commission and their requirements were bachelors, fluent English and polish with 3rd language a plus, and at least 3 years b2b experience. Another position was available in Gdansk that paid 30k euro plus commission also b2b type work and the requirements were nearly identical to Google. Also those were b2b sales rep jobs, not sales manager/director. From what I've seen some of the salaries for sales managers are great in poland - from 14k a month for t mobile which was one of the lowers ones to 250k a year for oracle. There was one sales manager job that paid like 280k a year but I forgot the name. It was a us tech company though.

Typically sales, it, finance and management pays a bit more though than other corp jobs like pr, marketing, hr, accounting, customer service, logistics, operations, etc.

My dream is to finish my degree, become proficient in Spanish and russian, move back to poland and raise a family there. I'm hoping in 2 3 years ill have enough saved up and have enough skills and experience to land a good job

@cms

Nope 11 almost 12k zl according to the below but median says 8k

m.newsweek.pl/biznes/30-uczelni-po-ktorych-zarobisz-najwiecej-ranking-,artykuly,368039,1.html

Good to know about that. I am hoping that my skills experience and education set me apart when I make the final move to poland. I don't expect to make the same salary as us. If I could even make the same as I do now with just a bachelors here thatd be plenty for me.

News / Officials in Poland are hailing an upcoming visit by Donald Trump [720]

@cms

Yet another assumption... Who ever said I voted? If you hate when people talk about trump why are you doing the same thing? Just because I lean towards say trump over Clinton doesn't mean that I support everything that trump does. Far from it. In fact I wrote how I was weary of his attempts to replace Obamacare which I wrote that I liked bc my parents finally have insurance, criticised his apparent desire to wage war with nk, but applauded his decision to cancel tpp, help secure the border, boost domestic manufacture, and cut bureaucracy (although I thought the enormous cut to epa was a tad excessive).There's many things i don't agree with that trumps done so far but he's only been in office 6 months so its far too early to judge his overall performance. So how can you say trump doesn't care about the economy, security, education, infrastructure when he's been in office such a short time? What did Obama do his first 6 months? Not much aside from indebting the country further and hand out favors to donors because it's a relatively short time... Look at the sheer amount of bills, proposals, exec orders trump did vs Obama in the same time frame.

Lol snowflakes? No sorry that term isnt used to label conservatives. We don't need safe spaces and dont throw a hissy fit because someone has a different opinion. We don't try to silence free speech and shut down debates.

When you purposely stereotype people as a form of revenge just because a politician you don't like won an election it just shows how immature and silly you are. Furthermore last time I checked it was Hillary who called half the us population 'deplorables' which was just one of the many reasons that aided in her downfall. All politicians slander, name call, flip flop, don't keep promises, use dirty tricks, etc - wake up its not just one party or one politicians that does it. If you hate talking about trump so much anyway why are you writing in a thread that's about him?

Of course poles want all those things you mentioned ESPECIALLY SECURITY meaning they don't want the types of terrorist attacks that Germany France uk face seemingly every week or two. I nor anyone else ever said that poles look at everything through the prism of racial purity. Nonetheless they want to keep their country mainly polish demographically with polish culture and traditions and Catholicism as the religion. That's why 150k people marched in warsaw. That's why Jesus was crowned king of poland. You are incorrect about poles not giving a crap about the migrant crisis - that's one of the top political discussions in poland both in public on tv radio etc and in private amongst friends and family. If you turn on the polish news, any polish news, you'd know one of the hottest topics discussed is the migrant crisis and the fine that the eu wants to hand poland. This has been a hot topic for years and has been discussed even more after macrons election due to his threats to poland.

You're right though, Poles are concerned with having a good infrastructure, good health, being secure, etc. They don't want someone to literally and figuratively blow it all up. That's why they are defying the eu and not letting in Muslims - this is talked about nearly everyday on polish tv and radio. The majority of poles don't want to face the type of attacks that western Europe has and are very vocal of their opinion. Furthermore they want poland to remain in the eu, absolutely, but they also don't want to give up their right to determine their own destiny as a nation. Turn on the pl news or a debate and you'll see. In fact I watched one pretty recently and commented on here how some poles have warmed up a bit to the idea of accepting eritreans because they're Christian and poles feel that may help them assimilate into our society.

Like I said many poles do view trump as a prostak and poke some fun at him but nonetheless want him to visit poland and strengthen ties both economically and militarily just like they would ve wanted to if Hilary won. However much of trumps ideas match those of pis - like securing the borders, being extra vigilant on whos allowed into the country, increasing the military, growing the economy, and gaining back lost sovereignty. Last time I checked merkel was snubbed by trump - duda won't be. Maybe instead of labeling everything that trump says as drivel and nonsense, you should seek to understand why he says those things and why his messages are so popular - hence why he was elected. That's what erudite people do - they look at both sides of the argument even if they lean towards one side. Some people will even change their opinion after researching both sides. Those who stick to one side without even attempting to understand the others perspective or worldview are just plain foolish or perhaps even brainwashed just like the poor rural Afghanis who often know nothing of the world aside from the Koran and what an imam tells them to think. How do you think bipartisan politicians work to pass important bills? They seek to understand each other and compromise. Even if not for the sake of learning something to gain some knowledge on a different perspective, you could study the opposite side to better understand your enemy since you hate him and his supporters so much.

Let me ask you this how long have you lived in poland? I'm willing to bet your an expat and not actually a native polish due to the words you use. I could be wrong that's why I ask. However a native pole who's English is a second language wouldn't use words the type of idiomatic English and words like snowflake or m.o. as you do. If you were a native pole born and raised you'd understand how meaningful a us presidents visit is to poland regardless of whether he's a democrat of Republican.

Trump is a polarizing figure in poland that's for sure.. Even in my own family the older generations love him, the youth eh many think he's kind of a 'prostak' its definitely divided but nonetheless id still say the majority in pl likes trump because of his criticisms of merkel, the migrant crisis, protectionism etc. Much of his ideas line up with those of pis

Work / Studies In Poland, is it easy to survive on part-time jobs? [259]

@DominicB

I believe the school in wroclaw the economic one does its program with a uni in either lwow or Minsk.

The problem is that many educated poles know you can simply purchase an mba in Ukraine and probably Belarus too for around 3k usd.

Work / Studies In Poland, is it easy to survive on part-time jobs? [259]

@jon357

Thanks Jon. Their program is hugely respected in pl that I know but unfortunately they only have 2 types of mbas. One in polish where you get a degree from sgh upon completion and the other an English one but despite having classes at the sgh campus the degree you receive upon completion is from univ of Montreal. If the degree was from sgh I would totally go there. However i don't think id do too well in a polish classroom setting as i simply have never studied polish business or legal language.

@DominicB
Id only partially agree with that. There's tons and tons of mbas especially online ones now that are regionally accredited and usually far cheaper than aacsb schools like the ivy leagues, duke, ucla, new york u, etc. However even an mba from a Jesuit univ like marquette Creighton loyola etc which also hold aacsb still has a great roi. For example the average starting salary for a loyola grad is around 110 120k, 140k at the more business focused Jesuit unis, while northwestern is only a tad higher at 160 170k. The difference is though northwestern costs almost 200k to attend. A guy or gal in his late 20s or early 30s w a bachelors can expect their salary to go up 50% to 100% plus upon finishing an aacsb mba.

Many publications say that for the money mba is still by far the best paying masters degree on average and is even very close to a medical degree which tends to cost far more and takes longer.

Even the top b schools in Europe like insead London Erasmus etc can expect to easily make over 100k with the highest average salaries being in Switzerland at 140k.

I've heard that in poland one can easily make 70k use plus upon finishing a renowned mba. This would seem pretty realistic as salaries for people like sales managers at oracle make 250k zloty annually.

For sgh when I researched salaries they lead the pack of 30 diff polish unis at an average of 11k zl a month. The top 3 were all Warsaw schools. However I don't know if this was average starting salary or what or even if this was average salary after a bachelors or mba. Im assuming bachelors as the mean was around 7k 8k zloty which seems right for a bachelors from a good business school working at some corporate job. For example Google in poland pays their sales reps 2k usd a month plus commission which would be roughly 7.5k zl salary plus commission

Well when I read about it on sgh website it sounded like the teachers were from both canada and poland.

I wouldn't mind going to sgh but id imagine a degree from sgh would be worth more in poland than from univ of Montreal. I could be wrong though. In the us and canada and probably much of the rest of Europe university of Montreal would be more recognized.

Unfortunately though sgh doesn't have aacsb accreditation and I haven't check Montreal's yet

@cms

Except I live nowhere near milwaukee ave and I very rarely drink alcohol.. Yes poles are becoming more euro skeptic. That's a fact and its mainly because of the migrant impasse. Nonetheless yes you are correct in that most poles don't want to leave the eu. However that doesn't change the fact they're not happy about the migrant quotas and threats to fine poland.

Also according to cbos, 81% of poles are in favor of polish eu membership. Leaving the eu and being skeptical at Brussels demands for what poles should do in their own country are two different things.

Why do you resort to assumptions and mockery? That shows a lack of intelligence on your end.

@DominicB

What about English mba from szkola glowna handlowa? The weird thing is though that its like a joint venture thing with university of Montreal in canada. The degree you actually get upon graduating isn't from sgh though but rather from university of montreal even though the classes are held at sgh. Would university of Montreal be considered more prestigious in poland than say some other middle of the road mba at another polish school? I do know sgh is usually recognized as the best b school in poland. Would it be better to receive an mba from sgh as opposed to say a good American or Canadian school that's well recognized like say duke university northwestern ucla etc?

@Ironside

Yes anti eu sentiment is definitely rising amongst not only young poles but older ones as well. Many people expressed their dissatisfaction with the eus treatment of poland and telling it who they should and shouldn't accept. Like I said before, 1.4mln Ukrainians (that's roughly 3.5% of Poland's population) were given work permits and allowed to settle in poland. In wroclaw there's 120k that came alone - this is out a city with a population of some 700 800k or so people (may be 1 mil max metro). Additionally we've accepted thousands of Chechens and Georgians. We've definitely past our old 7k obligation. We've been more than generous helping our neighbors who are escaping war and poverty. Perhaps the Syrians Iraqis Afghanis should be looking towards their wealthy neighbors or even the us, russia, iran, qatar, turkey, erc not poland. The only stake we had was perhaps 1 special forces battalion but we didn't bomb Iraq or Afghanistan into oblivion . actually Lebanon has been a most gracious host for being a relatively poor country - they've taken in easily 1 mln fellow Muslims

Of course theyre not free.. Nothing in life is... The argument now is whether its worth for Poland to continue receiving funds in exchange for giving up its sovereignty to the eu. Also poland has started paying now into the eu system but to my understanding they still receive something like 5x more than they pay in.

If you go on the polish ministry of finances website it says that poland received some 370 bil between 2007 and 2013. Another issue is that many of the businesses like copper mines, media, etc aren't in the hands of poles but rather mostly germans.

News / Officials in Poland are hailing an upcoming visit by Donald Trump [720]

Also delph one of the main reasons That Poland's system is so modern now is thanks to the eu funds. It could have been even better if it weren't for the corruption.

Example

Highway or other government official: hi were building a highway system and are interested in purchasing 1 hectare of your land...
Villager: I'm listening....
Official: as I'm sure you're aware, your land has been appraised for 1 mil zloty we are prepared to offer you 10% more or 1.1 mil zloty...

Villager: I need 2 million zloty
Official: but sir, the land is worth ...
Villager: 3 million!
Official: okay okay 2 million it is..

Now off to the Porsche dealership the villager goes. There are so many rural workers that have become millionaires in an very short time simply because their land value became so artificially inflated.

And that situation has been playing out all over poland. Property values have skyrocketed because of all the eu funds pouring in of which a significant fraction was spent on road and rail as well as private ventures like factories, real estate (super hot right now) like condos and town homes, retail stores, etc. Hell my place is a dump (literally as some mofos turned it into an illegal dumping ground, before that it was an amphetamine factory) but its big. In the short time I was there I got 2 offers on it in as is state - almost double of what it was appraised for and what the value that online real estate companies gave it.

And to think... This property cost something like $3k usd.

The problem is that so much money has been spent buying up peoples properties to turn into infrastructure or another kind of project that people started getting greedy and used the eu funds pouring in as an opportunity to say their property is triple or more than what it really is. There should have been like a cap that a property can't be sold for more than 50% above its appraised value or whatever but there was way too much money to be made all around from the villager to the village mayor to the developer to the broker etc.

Take a drive around poland and just look at how many real estate offices and development firms there are

The highways and roads greatly differ from one place to another in the us. For example in Illinois they're down right terrible and it has the highest tolls of any system I've driven on. I use to have to pay $8 in tolls just to visit my gf 20 mins away and then drive back home - more than id spend on gas. In the winter there are potholes so big they'll snap a connecting rod or mess up your suspension like crazy. What's worse is that when it snows you can't see them. In Florida, wisconsin, indiana, ohio, Colorado the roads are great and the tolls are minimal or non existent. Id say actually Florida had my favorite system and there's a special hov lane (high output vehicle) where you can easily go up to 140kmh without a cop pulling you over.

In poland the roads have def gotten better and there's lots of highways but the roads in the cities and driving into surrounding suburbs and villages are still crappy.

But now the Germans system.... Droooolllll. Ill never forget going 160 180 kmh in my grandpas old school Mercedes station wagon. And it was a stick unlike all the Mercedes here

News / Adam Michnik awarded for integrity, professionalism and high standards. Poland's No. 1 fascist? [321]

Well he is Poland's most celebrated (outside of pl) most awarded etc but all these awards, orders, honorary degrees he's received aren't from poland. That's extremely rare for a prominent world famous writer mathematician scientist whatever to receive tons of awards but yet none from their home country. All the awards that michnik got are from us, germany, france, holland, etc but none from poland. That just shows how polarizing figure he is in poland.

The western/central eu countries love him though.

Also for reasons I wrote earlier he's not exactly independent. Gw isn't owned by po or another party but its certainly a political instrument much like cnn was towards Hillary. Hence id say gw is about as 'independent' as cnn. Gw is definitely biased though there's no doubt about that

Another thing I kind of find ironic is that while michnik is lauded by many people in po, kod and even more so abroad... His brother has a Europe wide warrant for killing the most heroic patriotic poles in existence. Sweden refuses to give him up though.

Like the other communists that Adam michnik defends, his murderous brother is no different.

News / Adam Michnik awarded for integrity, professionalism and high standards. Poland's No. 1 fascist? [321]

@jon357

He's one of thousands and thousands that were jailed during prl times- so was macierewicz. I wonder if his brother stefan wouldve treated him so kindly if rhey were separated at birth to only give him a few years in prison rather than executing him like he did polish ak heroes.

Macierewicz and michnik actually knew each other and were in the same circles. The reason why michnik was jailed as a student is because of his pro Israel stance which was unpopular at the time in Soviet states which viewed Israel as the aggressor in 67 along with his revisionist Marxist views which called for more democracy and less cenroship. Perhaps the emigration of his father to Israel in the 50s made him even more vocal. When he was jailed in the 80s it was because of his affiliations with kor and solidarnosc.

Also lets clear something up - he was a dissident to the communist regime of poland not communism, socialism, Marxism Leninism as a whole etc. He sought to liberalize the system but not do away with it. To this day he supports not prosecuting the prl leaders. As students Michnik along with kuron modzelewski and a few others, many of whom were zionists, were part of a group called the commandos. The commandos sought to turn prl to a sort of Marxist Leninist ideology with more free press, democratic rights, etc. They never called for the total abolition or downfall of the prl system though. In that sense the anti communist dissident label imo is flawed. The commandos even put together their ideologies into a work called 'the revisionist manifesto' which discussed revisionist Marxism. Michnik was certainly a dissident to the bureaucratic somewhat bourgeoisie prl leadership but not to Marxism-Leninism/socialism/communism as a general ideology.

When he put in jail in the 80s its because he was a part of kor/solidarnosc and more specifically because of the strikes he helped organized. Michnik used that group as well as people like walesa and the lessons zionist slominski taught him (coward who fled poland during ww2) to launch a publishing house which was his lifelong dream as he had always been a writer, editor, etc. Kor and solidarnosc gave him the tools and audience in a way that the commandos never could. Even when it was underground it made a killing. Of course the prl heads knew all about it. Im sure he bribed them or had some sort of agreement otherwise they would have shut him down. The reason why I say that is because keep in mind when he was jailed in the 80s it wasn't because of his publications which were somewhat tolerated by prl but rather for inciting strikes.

You are right though - no dirt in terms of bribery, corruption, etc yes ill agree with that. In fact he turned down a rather significant bribe which I give him props for. That doesn't change the fact that he's attempted to whitewash the deeds of communists ever since the 90s even asking pis for help at one point, either supported or backstabbed walesa and his friends and colleagues - depending on what was convenient at the time, overly criticizes poland and the church while never ever criticising israel.

I respect the guy Jon for his accomplishments I really do. Id be lucky to get a quarter of the awards and honors he has let alone form such a large company. However, I do not respect him as a person due to his treachery, lack of patriotism for the country he's from, the communist whitewashing esp jaruzelski under whom much of my family esp the rural workers and older people suffered and would love to see face justice, and even though much of the journalism his house produces is decent, many feel it is biased against poland and the church and overly critical of policies that many other countries have adopted as well, such as Israel with its stance towards migrants/refugees, which neither michnik nor gw will ever criticize. Same with Syrians - they're so poor and downtrodden but the palestians are a non issue in michniks eyes. That seems very one sided and biased to me. Of course not all his publications are like that but it seems he more often criticises poland and the church rather than praising even the small good deeds while not criticising po, israel, etc. If you're going to criticise a country or government for being unfair in your eyes towards refugees, you can't criticise one country while not criticising another with nearly the exact same policies.

Also I wouldn't say gw or michnik are independent. No they're not owned by a party but they definitely lean way more towards po. Furthermore there's been many many times that gw has been used as a political instrument I.e. like the election I mentioned earlier where gw supported mazo, was against walesa, then was pro walesa and against tymski or whatever his name was.

I do agree with your last sentence though. As far as polish journalists writers editors etc he's by far the most recognized and awarded. Notice though that all his awards are foreign and not polish. Usually such decorated writers have at least one award or honorary degree from their home country. It appears michnik does not. Perhaps this tells you that despite gws popularity michnik is a very polarizing figure in poland.

News / Adam Michnik awarded for integrity, professionalism and high standards. Poland's No. 1 fascist? [321]

@jon357

He is certainly one of the most honored and awarded poles I won't dispute that. Also like I said I do believe that gw is the most popular paper. That's not rly saying much as newspapers have been in decline for decades. Perhaps by us standards yes it is a centrist paper but firmly left/center left by polish standards. He has tons of awards, honorary doctorates, order medals, etc. I am not saying that he is stupid - far from it. I am pointing out his lack of patriotism and loyalty to ones country, lack of honor, and his hypocrisy. Although the patriotism can be disregarded since typically most leftists don't have much patriotism for their country. That's fine just different ideologies.

Its just a matter of different ideas - some view trump as good some do not. That's the beauty of debate and society. You may view him as a great but most poles who's families lived under jaruzelski cannot. Same with much of the youth. They view michnik as a traitor who's been on a crusade to whitewash the deeds of commies, esp jaruzelski kiszczak and co., as early as the 90s while abandoning his friends and colleagues like walesa along the way. That fact cannot be disputed. These men should have been tried in a polish court but michnik did everything possible for that not to happen. We all know he tried to influence lech Kaczynski not to being jaruzelski to trial. Michnik is and always has been a communist - the only time he was a dissident is because they started going after Zionists and to him Zionism trumped communism. Otherwise he would ve not cared what the government did to zionists and would ve continued being a loyal commie.

Whether abuse takes place in yeshivas in poland or not isn't the issue. Im pretty sure its minimal though. His paper regularly discusses affairs outside of poland. I am merely pointing out that he'll be quick to criticise some priest in the us, australia, vatican, etc over sexual abuse. However he will never criticise a rabbi doing the same things regardless of geography. He can write about priest abuse in the us but why not rabbis? He can criticise poland for not accepting refugees, but why not Israel? He writes about how Syrians and others are in such dire straights but his exact words when interviewed and asked of his opinion of the Israel-palestine conflict said 'its a non issue'. This hypocrisy cannot be denied.

Like I said, the man knows also nothing about loyalty, patriotism, or even honor. I can understand his left wing pro commie ideology leaves him little room for patriotism to poland but what about loyalty to his friends and colleagues, especially lech, that helped him out? He begged lech laczynski for statutory abolition to protect jaruzelski and co... Only to continue to write negative articles about the kaczczynskis. He pulled a similar back stab with lech walesa - for a few years he polished lechs boots with his tongue then he got his wyborcza off the ground, thanks to lech walesa, but yet supported mazowoecki in elections in a total backstab... Despite the fact that lech walesa helped michnik -

lecb basically told michnik to establish wyborcza only for gw to be used against walesa .. Then when michnik realized mazowiecki had no chance of winning he used his wyborcza to celebrate walesa. He even went as far as to make up lies that tyminski was an sb agent even though the guys from Canada -

clearly a total lie which wasn't retracted till after elections.

Like I said the man knows nothing of loyalty to ones friends, nothing about honor, and he'll use the media only for own goals and ideology - sucking up to political adversaries to protect his communist martial law criminal friends then throwing a hissy fit when he didn't get his way. This is of course after using his newspaper against the very man who he advised for years and worked alongside and helped him found gw (or at least gave him the blessing to do so), walesa, then sucking back up to him only when realizing mazo had no chance. These are all indisputable facts. The only people he hasn't backstabbed were other Zionists like kuron and gross who he's known since at least the 60s. Not to mention his selective criticisms of poland - he'll criticize priests but never rabbis, he'll criticize Poland's migrant policies, but never israels, he'll shed tears for Syrians but Palestinians are a 'non issue'

He may be one of the most decorated and honored poles receiving all these awards orders and honorary degrees from netherlands, Germany, and France but none that I know of from poland. That's because most poles know he is a backstabbing treacherous commie white washing globalist cfr member who will never criticise israel or zionism but is overly critical of poland and Poland's church. Thankfully he's in his 70s so my children will be able to grow up in a michnik free poland. Although to my understanding he doesn't even live in poland and hasn't for years. He's a resident of NYC.

Im willing to bet Jon that you didn't live during stan wojenny and your parents and grandparents didn't either. I could be wrong of course. However in general people who did live during those times recall the tanks in the streets, the food shortages, the thefts and corruption by government officials, and the suffering of common people. Those same people would never want to whitewash the communists deeds esp jaruzelski and protect them from having to answer to charges committed during that time. Why michnik has been working for over 25 years to protect the communists is beyond me. It could be a tradition in his family though to screw over polish people - after all his brother stefan michnik ordered the deaths of countless poles including ak officers.

So no jon, a family who's killed ak members and polish people, whitewashed communist deeds and protected them from trial, backstabs his friends only to come back and support them depending on what's convenient, overly criticizes poland and the church while never even uttering the smallest criticism of israel, among many other deeds can never be thought of as a great pole. Maybe in other parts of the world but not in poland to the average pole. The only reason why he even was able to do all the things he has is thanks to lech walesa who gave him the blessing to establish wyborcza which of course is the oldest port prl newspaper and most popular. With readership declining and more people getting their news elsewhere, so has michniks clout. He knows this too that's why he took a more passive role in gw and went back to politics. Most notably becoming a cfr member - one of the most hated globalist elitist half zionist pro one socialist world groups in existence. No wonder he fits right in.

Life / Polish people and racism. [943]

@Wulkan

Well like I said its mainly because of the terrorist attacks. Most poles and most Americans as well know that the majority of Muslims aren't terrorists. However they simply don't want a few terrorists to sneak in with the families which has obviously happened in Germany, France, uk, etc. Its not just cars either - its beheadings of soldiers on uk streets, assault style attacks on cafes concerts, etc. Polish people just don't want any part of it. Also polish men aren't scared to take things into their own hands. When that Tunisian guy stabbed a pole they burned down his kebab restaurant. When some middle easterners started getting too frisky with the polish girls at the beach they all got beat up. In those type of scenarios the police do little to stop them.

Another issue is culture clash...

I know what you mean. Its counterproductive. Unfortunately much lucid debate or any other vocalizations of nuanced opinions is simply stifled on campuses all around here. Amusing but sadly a local college recently held a mock funeral - the death of higher education for such very reasons. There are rallies, demonstrations etc pretty regularly and what's unfortunate is that their screaming and bullhorns often disrupts lectures. However if a professor tells them to be quiet so he or she can teach those same students will then demonstrate till that professor is fired. I don't mind having blm lgbtq etc demonstrations or rallies on campus because you need social justice warriors in society. However a lot of the participants form a sort of mob mentality and will scream chant and cry to get their way - usually the firing of some professor, administrator or the shutting down of an invited speaker they disagree with. Many professors have been called the 'f***ing (cis) white male' line by their own students which is totally disrespectful and in most other countries would result in that students expulsion. Not here though - its the professor who is let go. They tend to not be interested in lucid debate. Most students that identify as say conservative, republican, etc keep their mouths shut and won't debate out of fear. In fact sometimes its not enough to just go to class, keep your mouth shut, and study - no... Oftentimes students in the class will ask you why you weren't at some rally or demonstration and God forbid you say because you were busy or worse that you don't really care. There is social injustice - I'm not denying that. Its a lot better than it was for minorities and lgbtq people but nonetheless there's still issues. The problem is that many of these students will put on a mask of helping others but instead create an atmosphere where they can never be criticized and any opposing views or even probing type of debate is simply shut down and doesn't exist. Its almost like the fascism of the 30s and 40s. Lets just hope it never gets to the stage where they're burning books on campuses like mark twains huck Finn because it isn't compatible with their worldview.

@TheOther
Very true. Most of the people who eat drink and breathe racist ideology I.e. skinheads are often unemployed, undereducated and simply looking for a scapegoat. Its one thing to be patriotic for ones nation and want that nations people to control their own destiny but another to advance your own nationalitys agenda at the cost of others. Racism, or at least phobias, are increasing though especially in europe towards Muslims. This is understandable because of all the terrorist attacks, rape cases, etc. However one must understand that the average Muslim family is perhaps very culturally different but most are not terrorists, rapists, etc. It all comes back to how you were raised and your own conscience. The problem is that many of these migrants were used to a pretty lawless country without the liberal laws and social safety net that much of western Europe has and they've exploited that system for their own benefit - especially financially. Many of them have a sort of conquerer mentality which is further fueled by radical imams explaining how Muslims will conquer Europe through birthrates and establish sharia. When people see these sermons online or are accosted in a Muslim area or perhaps know someone who was forced to move or otherwise change their life to accomdate people who aren't even citizens that's when tensions arise and racism increases. At the same time though many Muslims don't view Europeans as equals but rather kuffar to be conquered. Again not everyone but nonetheless much of these migrants have little education so all they know is what they learned from an imam at a mosque - many of which are fundrd by Saudi to spread wahabism/salafism. This is what poland wants to avoid. Most poles know that the average Muslim isn't a terrorist but they simply don't want the risk of 1 or 2 slipping in out of thousand.

If I remember correctly there were some 7 different genders and some 20 pronouns if not more could students to 'pick' to be identified with. I couldn't tell you what binary, non binary and some of the other ones are though.

Those bastards wouldn't let me chose to be identified as 'dear leader' : /

Its rather commonly used here to differentiate between basically a non transsexual non gay person I.e. cisgender cissexual. Apparently there's dozens of these pronouns adjectives that have come into English vernacular the past few years. Now if someone doesn't want to be called he/she they can be called 'ze'

There's dozens of these new words we had to learn through some 'sensitivity training' at my college. It was kind of ridiculous because it was like a 2 day all day long event. Thank god for weed..

@rozumiemnic
@delphiandomine
See to most people yes that would annoy them and confuse them to no end... Id imagine even transsexuals say a man to women want to be called a woman as opposed to something else esp after all the money time etc spent on their transformation.

Hmm strange I've actually only heard this term being used within the past year or two and usually by young millenials at the uni in the process of getting their bachelor's. Usually it was to criticize a 'cis white male' as an oppressor, and to force that person to defend themselves against being an oppressor. Unfortunatlet no matter how many rallies you go to money and time spent on causes, it is never enough because of your white skin and anatomy. Seems silly but alas that is how the campuses function in many of best colleges in the U.S.

News / Adam Michnik awarded for integrity, professionalism and high standards. Poland's No. 1 fascist? [321]

You call him the greatest polish citizen alive, many call him the greatest polish traitor alive.

Everyone lies Harry. Pis po cnn fox reps democrats it makes little difference.. Nonetheless at the end of the day adas is just another council of foreign relations globalist neo-commie who thinks he knows what's best for the world and especially poland. Im all for meaningful debate but the guy seems to have a boner for putting down polish people and the church (which yes like any religion has had its issues, but of course he'll never dare to write about sexual abuse taking place in yeshivas or the organ trafficking money laundering rabbis) while celebrating communists like jaruzelski who caused tons of suffering for everyday poles during the stan wojenny. Why anyone whos lived during those times would have any respect for michnik when he tries to clear jaruzelskis name and deeds is beyond me. The guy has no shame he went to lech Kaczynski asking for some sort of pardons for commies just to write negative articles about the kaczynskis later. Zero sense of honor, loyalty or even friendship. Zero sense of patriotism. All he knows is how to do is covertly spread cfr policies through his influence. This she incident with lech too is just a notch is his belt of the commie whitewashing attempts since the 90s and he's been at it ever since. Everyone in poland knows he's a two timing back stabbing Zionist who will say all the worst things about poles and the church but not one single word of critism against the apartheid supremacist regime of Israel or his cfr handlers. In his words the Palestinians plight is a 'non issue.' Polish people stupidly read his papers since its one of the largest if not the largest media outlet but they know damn well what he's all about.. The majority of poles are sick of that stuttering traitor but why they keep on reading gw and affiliated publications is beyond me. I don't expect you to understand where I'm coming from but as someone who's family lived under jaruzelski and someone who's loyalty lies to poland and the church I simply can't respect michnik. Hell ill take korwin komorowski and even kopacz over michnik any day.

I actually don't mind wyborcza all that much as they have some decent articles that are fairly objective for a more left leaning paper. However the anti polish anti church articles cannot be ignored. Michniks whole personal goal seems to be to mingle with other elitist internstionalists who want to turn poland (and any other resistance to them like Hungary) into even more of a us/eu vassal state with no sovereignty where neo commie elites (of whom a significant portion are also Zionists like michnik and condemn poland for not following some eu agreement while never holding Israel accountable for its innumerable un violations) hold all the power and anyone and can simply erase Poland's sovereignty by telling us what laws we should pass, who we should accept in our country, etc. That's what the cfr is all about on an international level and he's no different.

Life / Polish people and racism. [943]

Racism is everywhere its just a few very liberal eu countries that have spent tons of time, money and effort to fight a problem that was already very small and resulted in hardly any deaths. Thanks to that culture they've created a society where even saying something like 'boy, there's an awful lot of new mosques here now' or even something that can be easily proven by statistics like 'rape cases have gone up exponentially since the European migrant crisis' gets you labeled nazi, racist etc. I'm all for fighting discrimination esp at an institution level, but when free speech gets stifled because someone might get offended and peoples safety is at stake.. Well a good dose of common sense is needed.

I hate to break it to you agniesca but most people in the world are racist or at the very least hold strong prejudices - examples: in China the people believe that all blacks are backward, poor, and violent. Meanwhile they view Jews as the archetypal businessmen and even one of the best selling books in China is titles something to the extent of 'business secrets of the jews' or Jewish guide to business something like that. Meanwhile in India, Hindus believe they are superior to Africans in nearly every way. Even Ghandi called Africans lazy and uncultured and had a rather supremacist view of Indians. Yet he's soooo celebrated as a figure of social justice. In europe, (generally speaking) poles and Russians are wary of each other, no one in the Balkans gets along anymore, Greeks hate Jews, sicilians don't really like other northern italians, no one seems to like the Albanians or gypsies, Jews (esp zionists) don't like Palestinians and Persians and vice versa, azeris and Armenians don't get along, and there's tons of other examples... Of course these are all generally speaking - not everyone is those societies is racist and the number of people who hold racist views seems to be declining with globalization

You can't totally ever eliminate racism and it appears ever more clear each day that a ton of problems arise when a society is essentially forced to be multiracial rather than experiencing globalization and new ideas and new people at its own pace. Even with all these affirmative action programs here to get blacks or others into jobs and colleges they just interact with their own kind. If you dont believe me take a drive to any us college and go to the cafeteria.

People simply subconsciously hang out with their own type. Even in an uncontrolled environment like a college cafeteria where no ones telling anyone where to sit and with who to interact you'll see the Asians sitting with Asians, white frat guys w frat guys, blacks with blacks and usually the only table with some diversity tends to be the most liberal types with the funky hair colors and piercings who go out of their way to make friends with a person of a different race crews religion while not realizing many times they're trying to make friends with someone that's a minority due to their minority status thereby increasing their own 'tolerance clout' rather than making friends with a person due to their personality and not their race creed religion etc. And even at that table its mostly lgbt whites looking for the token black guy or girl who had trouble fitting in at the black table.

Life / Should I expect racism as a 'black' woman in Poland [149]

To any blacks/Africans looking to come to Poland:

There are quite a few black tourists - especially from the former French colonies and west africa in general. There's also a growing amount of residents from places like nigeria, Ghana, etc. You may receive a few prolonged stares simply because there isn't many blacks in poland atm and if comparing foreign groups there's far more Koreans and Chinese (esp tourists). However I wouldn't expect any downright racism from normal day to day interactions. If someone is racist towards you itd mostly be from young soccer hoolis that often hang out around bloki in usually poorer areas loitering about or a really drunk guy (oftentimes Ukrainian - idk why it seems these guys start like 3/4 of all the fights in the clubs and bars. Polish guys use to do that back in commie tomes and the 90s but its become passe).

News / Thousands of teachers to lose their jobs in Poland [57]

@delphiandomine

Yea I just meant like the length that's similar to the us - 8 years grade school (plus usually 1 for kindergarten) and 4 years high school. I believe the old system had junior high or something of the sorts. There are some grade schools here that have a separate school or building for 6th to 8th graders. As far as the specifics I couldn't tell ya delph idk. If unis are allowed to give their own tests instead of a standardized one that could def lead to corruption nepotism etc. Typically though from what I've heard the private schools are considered less prestigious than state schools. The opinion is formed because people believe that the private unis will graduate anyone that pays. I don't know how much truth there is to that but nonetheless many poles believe that. I wonder if these changes will affect both the private and public unis though. That also sucks for the student because if say a h.s. senior wants to go to 1 of 3 schools, theorectially if all unis do end up administering their own entrance test, the student would have to take 3 tests rather than 1 standardized entrance exam.

News / Thousands of teachers to lose their jobs in Poland [57]

I heard that they reorganized the whole liceum gimnazium etc system and that it matches basically the us system. Again this is just what I have heard while in poland... Im sure this will affect many teachers though and students will be merely reorganized. Unfortunately teachers at that level don't get as much respect in polish society or good wages like they would in the us for example. Only professors tend to command high salaries and respect in polish society.

My aunt is a grade school teacher I believe 1st grade or some other really young grade. When I visited her she told me about the changes but it didn't sound like she was worried about losing her job or anything. She told me actually there's a young Chinese girl in her class who's enrolled in her class. How cool is that
