News / Good-change government raising minimum wage in Poland, cutting SB pensions [213]

Normally in any institution, company, organisation or government, wise managers listen to those who excel in their field, and K is known as a master strategist even to his mortal enemies.

Then his mortal enemies are as pathetic as he is. His one contribution to PiS's electoral victory was hiding from the public and has no real achievements before or since besides polarizing the public more than ever before with appeals to a PRL style safety net and weird death necrophilic obsessions.

News / Good-change government raising minimum wage in Poland, cutting SB pensions [213]

Kaczyński was duly elected to the Sejm and holds the title of MP.

Yes, and he has no business interfering in government policy as a back bencher. If he simply acted like an MP instead of the Queen of godannmed Sheba I woulnd't mind but his power clearly oversteps his electoral mandate.

Study / Turkish guy to study at a university in Poland. Is that problem for Polish people? [139]

Problem with Turkey is that continually creating problems.

Everything you say about Turkey is absolutely true of Russia as well, yet Russia you like.... hmmmmmm

Always remembrer, what Turkey was/is to Serbia, Russia was/is to Poland. You're not gonna sell the idea of a Polish-Russian alliance without significant changes in Russian society at the molecular level....

News / Good-change government raising minimum wage in Poland, cutting SB pensions [213]

have accepted a draft law to trim the fat-cat pensions of former commie-era secret political police (SB) down to the average level

Is this based on documented cases of harrassment or is it simply collective punishment, not the best idea for rule of law, but I guess it works if you're all about rule of the unelected party leader.

Language / Difficult verb pairs in the Polish Language; iść-chodzić, jechać-jeździć [34]

This the general idea? The former would seem to me to be imperfective, the latter perfective.

Think of it this way, there are regular imperfective verbs and then there are super-imperfective verbs. iść is regular imperfective and chodzić is super-imperfective. Most of the time the distinction isn't possible or isn't important but when it is.... it is.

There is no similar sub-division of perfective verbs that I'm aware of.

Real Estate / Question about Czynsz (Building maintenance fees/utilies) in Poland [129]

But you keep asking wrong questions

And she keeps ignoring the best advice (go to the administration and ask questions)

Like where the hell did you find 90m2 apartment in a commie bloc

IIRC it's around 62 meters but still.... that's huge for a Warsaw commie building.

She is stuck at the "it's so unfair!" stage (people here agree that something is up) but seems to want us to fix it which we can't (especially since she tends to not give important information).

Real Estate / Question about Czynsz (Building maintenance fees/utilies) in Poland [129]

Let's not avoid the elephant in the room, guys, please

What can we do? Everybody agrees it's high (though older buildings usually have higher czynsz). How full is the building? If there's lots of empty apartments that could maybe also drive up the czynsz for people living there...

But we don't have telepathy to know what's going on withthe administration and you don't know Polish so you're kind of left without good sources of info.

Don't you have a Polish friend that could go to the administration and ask exactly what's covered in those high bills?

Short of having access to administration we can't tell you much more than we ave already.

Real Estate / Question about Czynsz (Building maintenance fees/utilies) in Poland [129]

- I checked on website it's amount for 4 or more people)

4 people or 4 apartments? Just a quick shot in the dark - does the owner maybe have other apartments in the same building and has the bills for all them sent to the one where the OP is?

I wouldn't put it past a Polish landlord to do something like that....

Alternately if this is an old communist blok - then maybe those who pay czynsz are paying for those who don't? That is I've heard of people just stopping payment of czynsz (and still living the building for years) maybe the cost of the freeloaders is pushing up the price?

Language / Collection of learning resources for learning the Polish language [129]

A web game for learning Polish vocabulary

Far too long and some of the pictures are misleading. Needs to be broken up into smaller stages

I got three wrong

ocet - the picture didn't show enough of the bottle and so I guessed owoc (from the pictures on the label which was all you could see) I thought maybe it was an empty jam jar

where you have to fill in letters:

kolejka - a statue of people in a public place (not waiting for anything) so I guessed kultura
mlecz - was blanking on the word and guessed mnisz (from mniszek....)

History / German history of my new home in Poland [30]

future Silesians lived in Balkan Ice age refugium and were Serbians (ie Sarmatians).

Is this a new hypothesis on the origin of humanity? The "Out of Serbia" hypothesis?

USA, Canada / Has anyone with a US or CDN passport recently been subjected to the "Passport Trap" in Poland? [29]

it's Canadian passports for dual citizens, or you're in big trouble trying to get into Canada.

Why is it unreasonable to expect citizens of a country to use passports from said country when entering or leaving? Citizenship is not a consumer accessory to make life easier but a covenant between the citizen and the country that carries with it rights and responsibilities. It seems reasonable for one of those responsibilities to be to enter and leave the country with the appropriate passport.

Real Estate / Which side of the slupek, can I put my fence post, Internal or external in Poland? [3]

Is this some kind of smut talk code?

If not, then the word you want is słupek.

If you're asking about building regulations then nothing anyone on this forum can tell you about where to your fence is worth anything. The only answer that matters is what the local authorities where you live say.

If it _is_ dirty smut talk then put your fence post whereever you want to, just spare the rest of us the dirty details.....

News / What impact will Donald Trump's election have on Poland? [331]

? He was killed not because wanted peace with Soviets but because he reduced military spending, as result of his peace efforts.

Actually the idea that he was killed because he wanted to shut down the federal reserve is a lot more plausible (and represented a greater threat to the powerful than mere defense spending).

Not saying that's what happened, just that that makes more sense.

News / What impact will Donald Trump's election have on Poland? [331]

. I have no confidence of pis getting along with anybody though

They can't get along with anyone who isn't them in Poland, why would they be able to get long with anyone else in the world?

they = JK, there's some evidence of smarter, more capable people around but they're muzzled by the Big Brother.

Language / Articles - usage in Polish [11]

'z kims' is OK but it doesn't say it was a man.

Why is that important? I would probably say "Rozmawiałem z kimś z firmy o swoim zamówieniu". Not what native speakers would say but it gets the job done. If they want more info they can ask for it.

Life / Marks & Spencer getting expensive in Poland [11]

I only went to M&S a couple of times (in Warsaw, I don't even know if they have a store where I live) so this isn't exactly crushing news for me.

But it does show (again) that for all the neo-communist rhetoric of PiS, foreign retailers actually tend to have a hard time of it in Poland and don't end up with much profit for the huge capital outlays they have to make.

Economic illiterates imagine that they're carting money out of Poland in semis but the reality is different....

News / Facebook censors nationalists and their planned 11 Nov. march in Poland [50]

Somehow people of your lefty-libretard orientation did not say the confectioner who refused to do a wedding cake for 2 homos

I absolutely supported the bakers in that case (even if I don't think much of them as people). And the couple were not very bright either - if a food preparer was prejudiced against me why would I want to eat foot they'd had a chance to foul?

But what does it matter if facebook doesn't want to publicize Pollack independence day....

News / Facebook censors nationalists and their planned 11 Nov. march in Poland [50]

is considering legal action to stop Facebook blocking nationalist organisations' and their members' pages,

Facebook is private. They can block what they want.

People who use facebook for more than 5 or so minutes a day are just making Zuckerberg richer.

Facebook is the awesome potential of the internet distilled for blithering idiots.

News / Hypocritical PC dictatorship bans Polish film in Berlin [26]

resubjugation under Russia?

That was the PRL and that's the only kind of relationship that Russia knows (and you would know it too if Serbia had ever shared a border wit Russia). Actually if it had then Serbians and their language would barely exist. No nation thrives because of a close relationship with Russia.

when Poles wants to be truly independent, somebody always frighten them with Russia?

Look at history. Russia's traditional relationship with Poland is much like Turkey and Serbia....
