Language / Passion means pasja in Polish [12]

teffle, i'll try to.

f.e. in german u may say sth like

'he is passioned about his latest fashion collection'

or

'he is with passion pursuing his job career' meaning that the 1st connection for passion isnt sex.

point is that in different countries/cultures the normal and usual connection for the word passion is not always sex, what means that maybe there are other priorities rather than physical/sexual exitement. like job, arts etc.

History / Are Poles grateful to the Russians for winning the war? [120]

It's very much a "what if" scenario - there's always the possibility that the Russians would have given up the "prize" of Berlin and simply concentrated on giving Poland a hiding instead. If they had wanted to, they could have destroyed Poland at that point.

correct, but the meaning and symbol of berlin was enough motivation for them to be there 1st, and of course later on strategic when they noticed what power they have. under no price they would have given it to us/f/eng.

They'd have lost because they didn't have a viable bomb - and it's well documented that their supply lines were incredibly overstretched in order to get to Berlin first.

obviously not overstretched enough. ;) they came in 1st. :)

Poland made a massive mistake in WW2 by not waiting until the Russians were almost at the gates of Berlin - they could never have survived a ruthless Polish attack on their supply lines, especially if the Poles were covertly aided by the Americans.

nice combination of 'ifs', but it did not turned out that way as history showed. its quite interesting how some people here on pf are trying to minimize the ussr part of the ww2 victory against nazi germany. are u people ussr/russian phobics? ;)

poles my guess at the end of the war would not have been cared for who came for liberation. ussr came 1st. punkt.

Language / Passion means pasja in Polish [12]

in the last couple of days it came to my mind that in different cultures the word 'passion' has different meanings and is associated with different things. in some languages there is not even and equivalent translation for the word existing. here some translations:

passion

in german leidenschaft

in french la passion

in spanish pasion

in russian страсть

in polish pasja

in serbian stras

in turkish tutku

please be so kind and give me some lets say 2-3 assiciations with the word passion.

History / Are Poles grateful to the Russians for winning the war? [120]

are you guys saying that the Soviets would have won that war without any help? Don't be ridiculous.

yes, hupothetically. the war would have lastet longer, but the resources and manpower were on the russian side. dont forget all their inventions at the end of the war which were copied by us later on, because some of the russian engineers had to flee...same story with the german inventions. remember wernher von braun???

i think poles in some way are grateful. all that torture by the nazi regime...ok, also the russian time is not flawless, but imo better than nazi time.

Poles would have been better off if the krauts and rooskies had annihilated each other with Uncle sam finally moving in to mop up what was left.

wishful thinking, yankee.

btw, tho manage what was left is some sort of standard us military strategy, ha? ;)

That's what General Patton wanted to do but was stopped by the White House.

poor general. no balls to do it alone. :)

2nd, why insults? did i insult u? very bad style, dude.

3rd, i am german.

4th, i was just using ur stupid logic. i know its hard to see when ur stupid. scheisse, oder? ;))

Just like the Soviets "liberated" the Nazi camps only to reopen (some) them right after the war and kept there their political opponents (mainly Poles).

u hate the soviets, right? r u maybe from east berlin? ;)

Poland was never liberated by the Soviets

that means by ur logic they were never occupied.

Poland was invaded and Poles were enslaved by the Soviets for over 4o years

yes, and there were slave camps....

Poles don't have any reason to be grateful to the Soviets at all!!!

agaihn, by ur logic, no, but for real maybe yes?

Of course Poles would rather not be dead, but having their freedom taken away again afterwards is barely a substitute.

i mostly agree with what you commented, but honestly, do you think poles or anyone else in europe(all countries under us influence) are 'really free'?

i think that is a big lie. maybe it is not felt directly, but think about it. ;)

so you would rather your people and culture and the very concept of a polish nation become slowly erased and been nothing more than slaves to the Volkduetch.

slowly, very slowly, king. u honestly have the illusion that the amercanization of almost all europe is not some kind of erasion of culture? furthermore at the end most of europe is somehow 'connected' to us in that way that they are 'volksamericans'.

I am grateful to uncle Joe for winning the War, Britain would not have won alone.

btw, 'uncle' did NOT win the war alone. there were 4 allies who did that.

News / Poles are able to forgive their enemies - how noble. [68]

will Americans ever forget 9/11?

why? what for? the civilians who lost close people not, but the us admin is using that in their purpose. to reign with fear and lead a lets say very pragmantic foreign policy.

It is difficult to forget this tragedy.

what tragedy? one could also say that the us admin sacrified lives to achieve sth. ever thought that way?

News / Has there been an influx of Polish people into Germany? [21]

No, thank you, Sascha, no ill feelings, I just can`t.

its ok. probably both sides are better off. ;)

i would prefer more slavicization of germanics from polish people. we need that to be more human. ;)

News / Has there been an influx of Polish people into Germany? [21]

I am not going to move to Germany. I respect and like Germans but living there would be too big Clockwork Orange for my psyche.

why not? its a big country, everything in order and possible. wealthy also and safe. ok, the humans aspect not so much, but that can be compensated. ;)

I have no great affinity with the Germans, but I do with the Irish, Scandinavians, Dutch, Aussies and kiwis who I find to be culturally closest to Britain.

me neither with 'brits'. historically and mentally. just kiddin'. what is that bothers u with germanics?

i think the transition of polish people who wanted to go to germany much earlier started than just to wait for some official green light.

UK, Ireland / Why do so many Polish guys in the UK have a crew cut or buzz cut? [106]

no, you cold jut tell. You very rarely see a pole with long or alternative hairstyles, they all look like they've jut come out the Marines

that is a local and maybe european phenomen. during my schooldays(long long ago) the variety of hair style was much bigger than now due to the variety of style offerd by music and film culture as an inspiration.

now that we are mostly getting served a mash of sth, most importantly political correct and nice, the selection possible is limited. the polishg guys are simply following that, imo.

not just historical, go to a nationalist rally in belgrade you will plenty of people with beards dressing like cetniks

there are few of them that is correct, but more like to be an attraction and by sentiment. the kind of hairstyle is not necessarily a must for the political stand.

btw, there are more guys during those rallies with crew or buzz cut running around. as i said, haircut and polical views dont have to follow stereotypes. ;)

;)
that is what i meant when i said the south of europe has better hair AND beards. :)

king

i watched the pics. what is ur point? did u look for partizan pics?

almost every culture has it symbols e.g. beards. i dont see anything special in this. for the chetniks they were some sort pf sign/symbol, like bald head for hare krishna, beard and dreads for orthodox jews, long beards in orthodox church, long hair for metal fans, etc......

that is drazen mihailovic. look on the wiki link. there is his pic without and with beard. :)

that is hairy??? he has a vollbart. thats it. hairy is sth different...when the beard touches ur feet f.e. ;)

more problematic is their history and collaboration with nazi germany.

I think he asks because the Chetniks were notoriously hairy.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chetniks
basic info and some pics.

there were partizans too, but they were also not too much of the hairy type, though in s. europe people seem to have much better hair than in the north. spain, italy, greece, ex-yu itd. baldness is not such an issue there.

mr karadzic used the normal body hair as camouflage like every average criminal. thats always the first option. he or his clients better benefitted from that by emitting seriousness and confidence while practising his healing methods while being dr. dabic. ;)
