Life / Multiracial Poles [154]

Ever hear of South Africa's white population?

I have(because I lived in SA), but most of them are generally strongly against mixing. In my opinion love should be color blind, and people should marry based on suitability and not necessarily race, However personally I would feel uncomfortable mixing outside of my own culture.

History / Pole, Hungarian, two good friends [58]

they are in average very bright

Not only that, but they are into chardas and other folk dances, and I am a big fan of Hungarian folk dancing.

Give them one piece of credit - party discipline is exceptionally strong within PiS. Not in a good way, of course - and they've lost most of the political talent who would be capable of forming a government, but...still.

They are, but this discipline is not self imposed. These are talentless individuals who can't do anything besides politics, and the prospect of them going outside of the party structure, God forbid forming their own party and possibly not making it into parliament again, would be a total disaster, and the end of their meager existence as they know it. So it's a discipline borne out of the basest form of cowardice.

I dare say that Kaczynski learnt well from his father - PZPR discipline was always quite strong.

Yes, his old man must have told him all about being a good communist.

Yes: We are true patriots of PiS, Kaczyński is out true leader.

It is sickening.

Never in the field of human history have so many ass lickers congregated into party with so few prospects. the PIS functionary is the ideal type of party stooge, obedient and unquestioning. Take Hoffman for example, he would make the ideal PRL functionary, and with his surname dare i say it, he would serve the National Socialists just as well.

What a contrast with PO, a party that tolerates internal competition for power. Look at Tusk and Schetyna, they are competing for power and yet still remain on very good terms, contrast this with Kaczynski who takes everything personally and is intolerant of dissent, no wonder he surrounds himself with brain dead conformist toadies.

I would say that is still below its potential, if it makes it into the 20s then that is somewhere where it should be. I suspect that it might be accomplished in the next 10-15 years.

The media thrives on sensation, incompetence, and general stupidity. In all three respects PIS is a far bigger target, as simple as that.

We should also remind unfamiliar readers that in Poland the better educated tend to vote for PO, whilst the less educated vote for PIS-as someone brilliantly demonstrated with a graph previously. And I take your point, it's quite sad that although Poland has a good government, the opposition is so abysmal and incompetent that it is not fulfilling its function of keeping the government to account.

Unlike the previous ones in 1952 and 1992 - this one made it very clear (well, not clear enough, but still) that the the Chairman of the Council of Ministers had executive power in Poland and that the Presidency was merely ceremonial.

And that is why Tusk did not run for the presidency. Komorowski though strikes me as quite a good speaker without notes:

History / Memories of Poland -1978! Not been to Poland since there was a dirty big Wall [3]

I see them playing catch up very quickly but I also feel the mass commercialisation from other countries will spoil Poland's rich heritage. I hope I am wrong? In 1978 all I remember were Thompson tape recorders and Pepsi cola!!

Thanks for sharing your experiences, a very interesting insight. In regards to heritage, I believe that what is worth preserving will survive what is not is likely to fade away. In a way that is the natural order of things because societies constantly change. So what time frame are you putting on your next trip, or perhaps as yet you might not have anything concrete in mind.

Really? maybe in your mind, somebody from PO says shyte and you hear rose:D

I see, so I take that you agree with the rapid change of mind of your dear leader, and think that it was well looked after, is that right?

History / Why have Poles contributed so little to Academics? (Particularly Science) [180]

Jews have made it clear that religion should never get in the way of science.

That is BS. In Israel Orthodox Jews deliberately exclude Maths and science from the curriculum, only study the Torah and are not expected to work and what is more they expect their non orthodox countrymen to support their lifestyle and they are growing in number.

This not about the accuracy of the comments per se, she was making the point that the crash area was badly looked after by the Russian side (with people stealing stuff from the victims etc.) , which was exactly what Kaczynski and his people were saying at the time as well others. So for him to attack her now for these comments, surely this is a clue to the guy's mental instability, or is it the early onset of Alzheimers?

In Poland Catholicism is the dominant religion. If Poland lets in loads of foreigners and other religions, it might eventually lose its Catholic majority

Poland does have strong foundations based on the Judeo-Christian inheritance, but it also has another inheritance concerned with religious toleration and freedom of worship-or non worship-as is guaranteed by the Polish constitution. Making one religion institutional in a country is quite medieval, for example like Anglicanism in the UK. In a true pluralistic society no religion should be favored at the expense of the others.

He admits that football fans support and Merkel scandal were mistakes. Quite sincere declaration!

Wasn`t it obvious from the beginning?

Well it was, the fact that he hadn't seen it that way from the beginning is just reflective of his level of intelligence. However the paragraph that caught my attention was the one relating to Ewa Kopacz. This is what he said: 'To minister zdrowia, która mówiła nieprawdę w tak ważnej sprawie jak Smoleńsk.

In the light of what he said about Smolensk previously, how would you classify these comments, are they the comments of a sane person.

Genealogy / Do Polish people often have the Mongolian spot? [24]

This is linked to the time when the mongols attacked Europe.

There is no historical evidence for this. The invading force was minuscule in comparison to the rest of the population. What did happen however was the migration of some Tatars to the country over a period of time to serve in the army, these people have long since integrated into the Polish population. Furthermore in recent history the Russians always stained quite big armies in Poland going back to some 200 years, that usually numbered some 100 000-150 000, it is quite plausible that some Poles might be the descendants of those Russians. The second proposition is just speculation, but it is far more probable than your hypothesis.

I can only describe this interview Kaczynski had with Gazeta Polska as bizarre. Not in the way you might think at first, but based on some of the stuff he has said previously and what he says now, I can only question his mental stability. Judge for yourself:

The errors in the campaign PiS , " Polish daily Gazeta " and the Palikot Movement , which will be considered by the Law and Justice as " air pollution in the Parliament - says CEO Jaroslaw Kaczynski in an interview Wednesday's " Republic "

No it does not. However the fact that Palikot and PIS give the issue so much prominence, demonstrates the dearth of any real policy ideas among these two parties, that's why the choose to engage in silly symbolism instead of focusing on the real needs of the country.
