News / Poland one step closer to visa waiver by US Senate [59]

That's what visas are.

True a bit however in this case I don't get it- why not judge it by the number of ppl that overstay?
Someone in the office thinks I may overstay- it's his opinion and is an assumption so it can be harmful
Not that I care, I don't intend to go to the US but I find it ridiculous that ppl are judged by what might have happened instead of what's happening. Why use mentalist capabilities of the office workers while we have a data about how many ppl really overstay it?

News / Has the mainstream media in Poland made too much of what 17 year old school girl said to premier Tusk [41]

Hmm, she had the right to express her views however I would expect more from a highschool student. My shool would definitely react to that not because of her views but the level of the discourse (hard to call it that really).

I remember when we had a meeting with Cimoszewicz (minister of foreign affairs at that moment). Many disagreed with him but it was argument for argument, questions about certain situations and so on. I would be ashamed to be this girl's political science teacher.

So to answer the OP: yes, there's too much talk about it since she didn't say anything of substance

P.S. She is already on gossip sites and apparently she's a fashion blogger...Why I'm not suprised...?

Well Rybnik, you were here but Goofy doesn't believe witnesses, he needs a proof in a historic book but probably only one that supports his view.

News / Jaruzelski dead / his legacy in Poland [116]

Your links:
One, Pieta is just an MP not an association of patriots.
Next two (the same organzation I see) - organization of past and FUTURE(? hahaha) political prisoners? Again, to me it doesn't hold any signifance. An organization that is basically unknown to Poles. I would pay more attention to Pieta's words since he actually may convince some Poles.

The Republic of Poland is built on a foundation of values such as independence , freedom , truth and human dignity. In the post-war period of enslavement in their defense became tens of thousands of Poles , many of whom paid a high price - the loss of life, health or freedom. Among those who from the beginning of the dictatorship of the Communist fought with these values was Wojciech Jaruzelski , "- said in a statement the president of IPN Lukasz Kaminski .

Is this enough for you?

plenty of associations of Polish patriits (not talking about nationalists) that are opposing this burial.

The only organization opposing that I heard of was IPN ( I wouldn't call it an association of Polish patriots) and as was stated by some politician (can't remember the name) they have no voice in this. They are supposed to be research facility.

Yes, but most of the people who are planning to protest at the funeral think that they are better Catholics than the Cardinal.

True and some of them just want to cause trouble.

Cardinal Nycz said that the two days to the funeral he will spend on prayer and everyone should do the same. He also said Jaruzelski is tragic and controvensial figure but any summary should be made after the funeral. It's nice to see a clergyman with such sensible attitude.

Two days have been to the funeral of General Jaruzelski Let's spend in prayer. In this way, should be accompanied by family and yourself dead - calls for Cardinal Kazimierz Nycz . - General is a tragic character , and controversial , but the time for settlement will be on May 30 - the cardinal added .

I do believe written word but not ones written by IPN. Most of the historians were proven to be at least selective in their work.

I never trusted and never will trust IPN. Simple. I prefer ppl that I know are not liers and just say what they saw. I guess my family member also didn't see the army on the border...

News / Jaruzelski dead / his legacy in Poland [116]

There's a difference between being a hero and being a scumbag. There is a lot of space between those two. And if Wawel is good enough for Kaczyński then Powązki are definately good enough for Jaruzelski.

Today my mom talked to her school friend on the phone. The lady had a student that was in the army when martial law was introduced. He told her that every few hours new Russian soldiers were delivered to their unit to the point where Poles had to move to give space. He said he was thankful to Jaruzelski because if it wasn't for him and martial law town steets would be drowned with blood.

I don't believe he was a hero but I also judge him by the situation. Ukraine now is perfect example what might have happened, my family member saw army on Polish border...

So no, he was not a hero but maybe he saved Poland for me to live in and I respect that.
Btw- I would be against violating even the grave of Hitler since it's just not something normal ppl do.

No, they want him in a place where Polish presidents and soldiers/veterans are buried.
And noone forces idiots to disecrate his grave.

I know they will be given medals for it.. it will be like the old actions of the underground in the II World War against germans. :)Destroying a tablica with German words on it.. or drawing a symbol of Polska Walczaca.. those times are coming back.

Medals given by ppl like you? Sorry but it rather won't be too valuable.
It's funny to think that pseudopatriots with enough dignity to be a worm will in fact attack the grave, get caught and put in jail or pay a fine to some charity :)

Whatever one may think about Jaruzelski desecrating a grave is a disgracefull thing to do. No true hero would do that- to be a hero you need some integrity.

Wojtek can be respectfully buried somewhere else.. not in the alley of the Zasluzonych.. it is a 100% sure that his grave will destroyed in a day or two :)

That will only show the class, culture and upbringing of the ppl that will do it. Nothing more.

Well, the ex-soldiers and political prisoners organisation doesn't agree with you Goofy. And don't forget that whether you like it or not he was the President.

I agree. At least this time noone had the moronic idea to open up Wawel
Yesterday I saw Wałesa saying that even though he and Jaruzelski differed he can't imagine the president of RP buried anywhere else.

Lenka, most of the Poles will tell you the same about jaruzel, only people agree with him are traitors , same as he was, now he burning in hell.

I know what ppl say and think I'm a Pole for Pete's sake and I talk to Poles all the time. And quite frankly I'm not too glad that Goofy is theoretically talking in my name.

Anyone has the right to have their opinion however one Polish immigrant speaking for the whole nation is not ok with me.

Who gave you the right to speak in the name of all Poles? I know quite a few that don't share your opinion. If you want to write this BS write it as you and only you.

I'm reading his inteview right now and...whatever you may say about him, he was used to self- criticism and reflection, it's more than you can say about most politicians.

Even if he is a person that is not crystal clear- I respect him. He showed class many times (e.g. order sybiraków i Lech Kaczyński) and to me he's not a hero but not a person to put trash on as well.

Law / How can I check the status of my Pesel number? [19]

They are not called that however everyone should remember it. Not to hard imo since the first 8 numbers are your day of birth. 99% remember their PESEL I believe since it's just easier to do than every time check it.

8F meaning I'm a female then 7 random digits followed your country

Actually in Poland there are no letters in Pesel and date of birth is followed by 5 numbers

Law / In Poland, are debts passed on to next of kin when a parent dies? [13]

How about an absent parent? You havent seen him (or her) for many years and have no idea if they are alive or dead? You dont put in a rejection (still can't believed that law) because you don't know anything about them and suddenly get a bill to pay their massive debt.

Then you'd have to go to court present your case I believe.

One other question... A parent in Poland becomes Ill. Needs to remain in a care home and has no insurance... Again.... The NOK expected to pay for the bills? / part bills?

.Yes, if they want their parents to go to a better care facility. However if your parents can't support themselfs thay can sue their kids for "parents support".
