UK, Ireland / Crying Polish truck driver on British roads is Internet hit [269]

Well the guy isnt in Poland, he is in Great Britain. So what would happen in Poland has nothing to do with this. Its irrelevant. As for the carrying on, the guy knew what was coming and he was protesting. Its not uncomman. Doesnt do much good, but definitely not extraordinary.

Vincent, thanks for the info but sometimes people do have the need to stop on the shoulder and take a break for a few moments. It could mean the difference between wrecking from exhaustion or not. I would rather have them pull over a few moments to collect themselves than continue on in a dangerous state of fatigue.

The reason Americans are whining on is the frustration because so many other things are going on that are much worse than this that cops either ignore or arent there to catch, speeding and reckless driving the most urgent but you can bet they are there when a parking ticket is needed. As for it causing accidents, its due to drivers looking then driving into a parked vehicle. Just dont look at them and continue onward. Put some rest stops for trucks in too. None of my posts have been about this mans nationality btw.

Parking on this hard shoulder is an offense yes but hardly a big deal. It isnt even a moving violation. Just the ridiculous drama is enough to cause anyone rivers of tears from frustration and mental anguish!

but not very many of those who can't really drive, act like him.

No, they act a hundred times worse with no regard for the other driver whatsoever. I have no idea how this guy acts when he is actually driving, he could be a really good truck driver. Truck drivers display better driving skills than other drivers. They have heard of turn signals, too.

It was a misunderstanding. The guy had a knife because of the potatoes and people say that is brandishing a weapon. If he had the knife for no reason, I can understand why people would say that it was because he was told to move, but he was eating a potato and that's why it was there. He should still move the truck and all but I still think it's a bit too much considering he's just parked there and he's on the job.

To be honest, this guy shouldn't be on the road to begin with.

I LOL when I read this. OMG how many people shouldn't be on the road to begin with. I see drivers every day a hundred times worse than that, going 90 mph weaving in and out of traffic. I have seen wrecks nearly happen right before my eyes because people are speeding and following the car in front of them at a close distance. I see so much stuff every time I am on the highway yet there's no police or anything. It's just reckless. Where are the cops when people are driving this dangerously? They are handing out tickets to guys like this parked on shoulder. OMG it's so irritating.

PlasticPole,You don't think the driver's behavior was a little erratic?I think the language barrier complicated the matter some. The cops will
always play it safe, especially in the UK;where they don't carry guns like the U.S. police..

Maybe the problem is, there aren't places for these trucks to pull over. Why not address the real issue? There were other trucks parked on the shoulder. Seems to suggest there's a need for these trucks to have a place to pull over and their drivers rest.

The knife could have been interpreted either way but one can assume a truck driver with a job, responsibilities and a life most likely would not harm a police man. He would be throwing away his future. It's mostly people committing illegal acts or with no job who are likely to pull a stunt like that.

I don't view the truck driver as a fool, Telfcat, just a guy trying to earn a living and avoid a fine.

I overlooked that part. Well, the cops could have done much more than they really did Plastic, don't you think?

You overlooked it because it was barely noticeable. It was his food knife.

knife is a knife and besides, how would they know what he wanted to do with it?

They saw the potato peels then they knew what was going on. He wasn't a knife welding mad truck driver. Just a guy with a job that requires a lot of concentration and stamina trying to eat a meager meal as quickly as possible. Is there anywhere convenient for a truck to stop in GB? Why is this guy thinking the side of the road is the only place? Other truck drivers seem to experience the same issue. What is Britain doing to make a safe place for these trucks to pull over when they need to?

How about men who take on so-called "women's jobs"?

I see lots of male nurses. Men have figured out they can make a heck of a lot of money being nurses and they are often better at it than women because they have more upper body strength. Men make better nurses for the most part, imho.

Telfcat, where I live, people are emotional. They cuss and carry on when people frustrate them. Some don't, but a lot do. A lot of people dislike cops as well. It's true not everyone reacts like that, but that kind of reaction is far from uncommon.

Here, we have a lot of respect for truck driving trade, too. It's tough trying to see around the truck so people on the road help the trucker out by making space for them to change lanes. Trucks are given the right of way to make those wide turns. No one likes to see one of them pay a hefty fine or get hassled by cops unless he does something completely awful. Most of them very safe drivers and very polite in usage of turn signals and lane changes. Much better behaved than many motorists.

He, most likely, did not want to take the time out from fixing food and being on his way nor anything on his driving record or paying a hefty fine. It depends on what's at stake. Hopefully, he won't do it again.

it's not a crime but it's illegal and dangerous to park on the shoulder to peal potatoes. If he understood what they were saying, he'd pay the fine and they would let him go (most likely) and we wouldn't have nothing to talk about now.

No one is disputing it is illegal. Is it dangerous? Well, it's dangerous leaving your house. It can be dangerous in your house. The world is fraught with danger. But, the law is the law.

He was hungry.

With all the thieves, traffickers, drug dealers and other dishonest people, let's do the logical thing and treat the guy earning his living driving a truck like the worst of them all because he parked on the shoulder so he could grab a quick bite to eat. OMG that is definitely the worst thing anyone can do!

Driving for hours is hard work and a big truck is even harder than a car. It can wear a person down. It's much harder than it looks and exhausting. Poor guy had been driving for hours and was just hungry and tired. Maybe it was an emergency for him? An exhaustion emergency.

Only so an interpreter could explain what was happening and give him the fine the same which was given to the Turkish truck driver, who by the way didn't make such a fuss.

It's difficult to hear on this laptop because the volume doesn't go very high. I assumed they were going to take him to jail for it. Glad to hear it was only a fine though. I can understand why he would protest. it might have just been a mistake.

Jon, what they do here is let the driver stay in their vehicle, then the cop goes to his own vehicle to write the ticket, he comes back, gives the ticket and goes. Most the time the person getting the ticket doesn't get out of their car.

When someone is put in the cop car, the assumption is they are going to jail.

Chew on your own words buddy as you are going a little bit OTT here lol

It was against the law but hardly worth all the drama. Cops should warn the guy and tell him to move the truck. That's all it merited. At the most, give him a ticket but sheesh, they went all out on an honest working man. Betcha they don't treat drug dealers and pimps with such disdain but when it's someone trying to earn an honest living, better make sure to jail that person and hassle them as much as possible.

Jon, why not make speeders and reckless drivers top priority as they cause the most wrecks. I am sure people drive as bad over there as they do here yet cops don't stop people going 90 mph.

this is ridiculous! He is just stopped on the shoulder ffs. I see it all the time. Cops have better things to do than harass truck drivers what with all the speeders and reckless drivers out there. You would think there would be bigger dangers for them to worry about but no, they are going to badger this truck driver who is only trying to earn a living in an honest way. Even if he was illegally parked, it's not the crime of the century and with all those speeders, they cause more wrecks than people parked on shoulders. Put it in perspective.

Life / A rant on customer service in Poland [42]

If they are concerned about going out of business, they should care. This customer should get a complimentary meal for her trouble.
