News / Demonstrations in Poland in defence of democracy. [2554]

Siphoned? Perhaps you just object to the principle of profit.

P3 is a Marxist.

What very few people seem to realise is that profit is at most 10%, more like 7% of the income of a company.

The rest, 90% plus, is retained in country. When you work through the supply chain, nearly half the money is paid in direct income taxes on wages. When workers spend their money, VAT is paid and so it goes on.

This is why Polands economy has gone from $60billion to $500billion+ and Polish wages and wealth has gone up.

Yes, Poland should have more Polish owned businesses, but that will require Poles to compete in a capitalist market, which means being the best on its own merit.

You can legislate to buy by dictat, but thats Communism.. and we all know that doesn't work.

News / Poland -- Europe's only counterweight to Russia [271]

Not sure who you are responding to.

Ukrainians don't think Putin is better than Poroshenko, thats all.

I agree Ukraine is run by the Mafia, just like Russia, based on the Russian model.

Most Ukrainians say

Nice of you to speak for 40million people.

ALL the Ukrainians I personally know say that Poroshonko (spelling?) is much worse than Putin and all the others put together

Then you must know a very unrepresentative and small number of Ukrainians.

Real Estate / Changes to mortgages for EU citizens in Poland with foreign income. [34]

mortgagesolutions.co.uk/better-business/2015/09/29/why-lenders-are-running-scared-from-foreign-currency-mortgages/

"The reason these controls are being put in place is to protect consumers so keeping their home is not at risk of currency fluctuations. However, lenders are understandably not willing to share the risk. The lender can't underwrite a foreign currency loan any differently so it is easier to say they won't lend."

Real Estate / Changes to mortgages for EU citizens in Poland with foreign income. [34]

unlikely that I can meet the requirements of the legislation which requires me to earn as much or more than my pension.

Surely you mean, *If the foreign income is used as part of the mortgage*.

If they are going to disallow foreign income then they should also ignore it and any foreign debt.

You should be able to get up to £35k unsecured loan (Barclays will charge me below 8% on an 5 year £35k loan). Thats how I bought in Poland, plus some other money I scraped together.

In March things changed

Indeed, March 21st is the Big Bang. Now you have to prove afforadbility based on historical interest rates re-occuring, multiplied by worst case senario exchange rates.

There are heaps of adverts on TV etc advertising 'credit'...they really have gone over the top on selling their products.

Meaningless ******** in reality...

Real Estate / Changes to mortgages for EU citizens in Poland with foreign income. [34]

You don't seem to understand that the world has changed since 2008. Banks are not there to provide a service and products for their customers. Banks do what the regulator tells them to do and they cream a profit off the top.

A bank license is a license to print money (literally), with is comes responsibility to operate within strict risk criteria specified by the Banking regulator.

You are simply too risky to deal with because of the currency risk. Your pension won't cover the range of variance of the mortgage over its duration. The Polish government (and the EU) have made it the banks responsibility to cover the exchange rate variation. Banks are not going to take that risk, hence you won't be getting a loan at anything less than exorbitant rates.

You best option is to pay in cash, buy in the UK/Sterling area or rent (the best option).

Why are you attempting to buy with a mortgage when all you need to do is live in Poland? Mortage is an investment that should not be subject to exchange rate risk.

News / Mass protests needed in Poland in front of American embassy [60]

Nato is there to defend us again Russia and Daish/Islamic Terrorists. As you noted, Russia openly funds anti-EU political parties

So the security purpose of NATO and the EU is obvious.

Nato is a burden on the USA, they would prefer that the Europeans would pay for their own defense. However The EU helps the USA and the West because united equal strength.

Russia works on the divide and conquer principle, which is why they are determined to destroy the EU and NATO

News / 2016, the year of change in Poland? [70]

It would make far more sense to offer a larger tax free amount for those with children - offering 500zł extra tax free a month per child would be a far fairer programme and would encourage people to work.

Outside the cities, people are earning less that 2400pln. For example my brother in law earns 1600pln per month and his wife 1200pln part time. 1000/month from a second child would make it viable replacement for her wage and maybe instrumental in the deciding if they should have another child. Also, 2400pln is much more that many people earn and obviously a mother would need/prefer to stay at home after birth.

(50 word quote limit is ridiculous)

News / An article: NATO is the American occupation of Poland and Europe, by Mateusz Piskorski [233]

Merged: NATO Summit in Poland 8th and 9th of July 2016 - Warsaw will become the capital of the world. Literally.

Warsaw NATO Summit 2016
On the 8th and 9th of July 2016, Warsaw will become the capital of the world. Literally. The NATO Summit will welcome the heads of state from about 65 countries, leaders of the most crucial partner organisations of the Alliance such as the UN and the EU

Just in case there was any doubt about who the new Polish government considers the leader of the world..

LE, you are talking rubbish.

The Lords can veto Parliments proposals, in fact they just did so in two laws the new Uk government wanted to introduce. Needless to say the Government (Parliment) are not happy to have their legislation rejected.

In the UK there isn't a explicitly written constitution. The law is set by politically independent judges who politicians must answer to, legal precedent is used as the basis of their judgement. The Treasury, the collecter of taxes, is also partly independant of Parliment.

FWIW, here are the stages of a Bill as its goes through to becoming UK law, in this case the Housing Bill.

News / New Poland's Government breaks promise to increase defense spending [16]

PO kept defense spending at 1.95% for eight years. No, I did not expect them to CUT that.

Governemnt income has of course increased, so there nothing but the stark fact that they CHOOSE to cut defense spending in the face of the biggest threat to Poland since 1939.

Traitors.

News / New Poland's Government breaks promise to increase defense spending [16]

Shocking news that a supposedly Patriotic, Nationalistic government is going to break its promise to increase defense spendng to 2.5%.
Instead, it will reduce defense spending below the NATO requirement of 2% of GDP!!

Its appartly its explained here, although the logic is incomphrehensible. GDP has rise every year, why are they spending less
?

Feedback / A special "for those living in Poland..." section. [33]

Maybe, as its completly fitting with the mindset of this forum, foreigners should be banned for the sub-forum. That is, anyone not posting from Poland.

I'm sure that the avid, Poland for the Poles posters, would agree.

I'm no longer living in Poland so I would be fine with it, but It may be pointless as the Trolls will use VPNs.

News / PiS to force every hard working, low earning Polish family to pay for TV [96]

I assume this is going to apply to uninhabited property as well?

Its property tax, the sort of thing that destroys governments. The political naivity of Polish voters and parties is amazing.

The 500pln per child promise will be.. interesting.

Wait til the childless people realise that the money has to come from somewhere.. somewhere like them..

Pensioners, PiS voter base, are going to get a shock

News / The US sends troops to Poland for drills [83]

Poles that know their History know that both Germans

Thats fine if you view Russia,Poland and NATO as academic exercises in social media, but Poland has hard realities to face to defend itself against the rise of another Russian Empire.

Russia and NATO is not a video game, Russia occupied Poland until twenty odd years ago and many young Poles living today were born under that occupation.

NATO is there to defend Poland, USA is the leader of NATO (to all intents) and nobody in Poland could give a **** about academic discussions when the nations survival (and the lives of its citizens) is under threat.

Poland is more hawkish than USA or NATO and always has been, the 2% expenditure of GDP on defense is in the constitution is there for a very good reason - to defend against Russia.

News / The US sends troops to Poland for drills [83]

not only to `protect` Poles from Russia but also in order to secure Polish `loyalty` in case of USA-Russia conflict

Do you know that Poland was so 'loyal to Russia' during the Cold War that the Polish Military was expected to attack their Russian Warsaw Pact 'allies' and switch to the NATO side.

Who hatesd Russia the Most? Poland

UK, Ireland / Do people in Poland live "better" than here in the UK? [150]

I find the exact opposite. In PL most of the stuff in shops is Baltonowski from factories or big cottage loaves of hard sourdough bread whereas in the UK there are many more small bakeries.

The majority of bread in the UK is made with the Chorleywood process.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chorleywood_bread_process

Its isn't really bread in the traditional sense. I can't eat it, I thought I was gluten intolerant but if I avoid that stuff I'm ok. Its not natural...

Its true there are a lot of small bakers where you can buy real bread in the UK. ( incidentally a friend who has a sandwich shop makes his own bread as its the entire profit he makes. The fillings are break even, his income is from the bread..)

Polish bread is usually made in the traditional manner, so I can understand why they complain about Chorleywood bread ('mechanically developed doughs').

Travel / Has anyone in Poland been to Cairns? [3]

Best thing I did was get a helicopter flight over the Great Barrier Reef. Few people did it on the boat trip I was on, preferring to swim, snorkel, dive instead. They don't know what they missed.

The Captain Cook Highway is spectacular.

Try eating the Crocodile meat, after a lifetime fed on chicken its good quality.

Go north to the rainforest, lookout for the Cassowaries which are supposed to be rare but I saw two as did someone else in my hostel the day before.

Cairns is a tourist town, its full of them. Plus an occasional ship load of stir-crazy American sailer's.

Inland there isn't much to see really but its worth a trip.

Probably still very hot in August, I went in winter and it was hot enough.

UK, Ireland / Do people in Poland live "better" than here in the UK? [150]

but to say that there's more than say in Spain,

Mostly boring desert.

France and Italy are much more beautiful, but really comparing countries is impossible but the UK certainly has its fair share of beautiful landscape, outside of the southeast where most immigrants live...

History / How come Poles like Russians but not Germans? [216]

so if stating obvious facts is 'pretty stupid' to you, then then why get involved in the discussion in the first place?

You think its smart to claim the Russians only killed 1million Poles so we should like them?

I think its completely stupid of you to make a comment like that, as is 'obvious facts' - no such thing.

History / How come Poles like Russians but not Germans? [216]

Simply take the number of Poles slaughtered by the Nazis during WWII and compare that with the Soviets: the ratio is probably in the range of 90% to 10%. Russians, l

The Russians deported over a million Poles and killed hundreds of thousands, your wild guess is probably wrong but saying the Russian only killed a million Poles is ok is pretty stupid.

Russia invaded Poland two/three times in the 20th Century and occupied it again after other occupations.

Russia is a threat to Poland existence TODAY, German is not.

Russians, like it or not, are our fellow Slavic cousins sharing common language roots and customs,

What sort of 'brothers' invade, occupy and attempt to exterminate?

Russia's war plan against NATO involved the complete Nuclear annihilation of Poland and the Polish people, In defense of Russia, not Poland.. WW2 would have been nothing in comparison.

News / Is this the first clear and open signal that Poland makes preparations for war with Russia? [163]

Maturity and sense prevails.

You mean Russia keeps Crimea and the US does nothing? "Peace in our Time"? Until Putin invades the next country in his list.

Putin has made it clear he wants to rebuild the Soviet Union, by force.

Im gonna be honest here. Polands military is kind of sad. The same with many many EU nations, even countries like Spain and Italy and Germany could afford bigger military spending and bigger forces. Countries like UK and France could technically also have bigger forces (not personnel but equipment).

Poland has a minimum military spending of 1.99% if GDP, its only behind the UK and France in the EU. Germans spend 1%. The GDP is key, the higher it is the better Poland can defend itself, which is why I hate political attempts to damage the economy by some parties.

Poland is just about the only country in the West that is increasing in military spending and buying new/more equipment. Its budget is not massive, because Poland is still relatively poor. Germans selling Leopard tanks on the cheap is what we need more of. Polish modernization is a ten year plan with an assured budget, 50billion Zloty's on new equipment is not bad.

But the purchase of a comprehensive air defense network costing up to $13billion has been accelerated, decision in two weeks.

defenseindustrydaily.com/if-necessary-alone-the-shield-of-poland-022785/

The military shopping list includes drones and 500 modern helicopters. Up to 12 M-346 trainers have been ordered, they can be used in combat to an extent. defenseindustrydaily.com/poland-seeks-advanced-jet-trainers-06423

Poland's military in the biggest in the former communist states facing the Russians.

You want pathetic? the Baltic states have a total of 3 fighter aircraft between them, (although they are very old trainers). I suspect that only one is in a flyable condition.

News / Radek Sikorski, Polish Foreign Minister, tries to annihilate Polish Slavic identity [19]

Poland does export billions of Euros worth of food to the Russian Empire.

However, when you are dealing with a mafia state, they can stop you exporting as a method of control and pressure. When you have fresh food with no other immediate customer that puts you at their complete disposal.

For instance, the Empire recently banned Polish Pork after a couple of dead Boar were found next to the Belarus border, the fact that these had come from the Empire was immaterial, its was a convenient excuse to punish Poland. Other 'health reasons' have been used by the Empire to ban Polish food exports.

Having your sales cut off at short notice will destroy a producer; exporting to Russia is a sure fire way of doing that, hence Poles are not interested.

As for Stalin (Putin's political "predecessor" [read: "word for the predecessor who influences the heir, and I can't find that word"]),

Mentor?

Although Hitler maybe a strong influence too, the invasion to 'protect fellow Russian's/German's' is a carbon copy of Hitler in the 1930's.
