News / Victory in 'anti-Polish camps' campaign in US [170]

The issue is clearly obvious - Polish Americans, being mostly the descendants of poor peasants from the impoverished former East, have decided to speak up on behalf of Poland when most Poles couldn't care less.

The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, prominent Polish and non-Polish persons say otherwise. Of course, you, an English teacher, with a short stint in Poland, are an expert on what Polish society thinks. **** off!

News / Victory in 'anti-Polish camps' campaign in US [170]

Shall we start to talk about how the Poles managed to kill people in their own concentration camps?

You clearly do not understand the issue. Here is something to help you understand it:

News / Victory in 'anti-Polish camps' campaign in US [170]

Another victory in anti 'Polish concentration camps' campaign

The San Francisco Chronicle has become the latest newspaper in the US to instruct journalists not to use "Polish concentration camps" when writing stories about German Nazi camps in occupied Poland.

Editor Steve Proctor has informed Poland's Consular-General in Los Angelis that the newspaper's Stylebook has been changed to that effect following protests against a review of the film Shoah in the newspaper on 4 February which referred to "Nazi concentration camps in Poland".

The news comes after the Wall Street Journal announced that it had revised its style guide to exclude the term and is the latest victory in the campaign organised by the Kosciuszko Foundation in New York.

Over 200,000 have signed a petition against the use of the term, including President Bronislaw Komorowski, former president Lech Walesa, Zbigniew Brzezinski, former US National Security Advisor to President Jimmy Carter, Chief Rabbi of Poland Rabbi Michael Schudrich, Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski and many prominent Polish-Americans.

"We will continue this campaign until all media cease to mislead their customers," Kosciuszko Foundation director Alex Storozynski has said in a letter to the Polish community in the US. (pg)

Another good news would be if "PolishForums' " foreign moderators(I guess Polish moderators are not welcome since there are none) would cease locking out every thread dealing with this subject.

Food / Typical lunch in Poland? [50]

So you think that only well to do eat a warm meal for lunch in Poland?

Perhaps you also moderate the Ethiopia Forums and you got your wires crossed.

Food / Typical lunch in Poland? [50]

This might be more common amongst upscale types who constitute only a fraction of Polish society.

The pretentious types, you mean. There is one exception when all Poles are one of the sudden wine lovers - international flights. We are willing to trade in Jesus for Dionysus as long we get that glass of wine.

Life / Polish nonfiction literature: Moczarski, Borowski, Grudziński etc. [5]

Do you like it?

Moczarski was jailed with Jurgen Stroop and wrote down his conversations with him. What would I base my decision whether I like it or not? What Stroop said before his execution or what Moczarski wrote down? There is a similar book I've read, Rozmowy z Leistem - hitlerowskim starostą Warszawy(Conversations with Leist - the Nazi governor of Warsaw), and again I have the same reaction.

I read Borowski years ago so I don't remember enough to comment.

If you understand Polish, there is a well done play or rather a television adaptation you can watch based on Moczarski's book and it follows the book quite well.

Life / How popular is Radio Maryja in Poland? [163]

But the person also hinted that Jews suffering anti-Semitism around Poland and the world should look within themselves for the reason as to why.

That is a view shared by many Jews also, and I'm certain they don't listen to RM.

USA, Canada / Polish President Says Cleveland is Like Home [30]

Well, why should he go somewhere that voted against him?

Perhaps because it has the largest concentration of Poles in the U.S? Would that be a good reason?

He refused to meet with Polonia but he went to the Holocaust Museum, I suppose to please his wife.

Not a lot in the press about his usual gaffs, this time with Obama. He must be used to being embarassed by now, I know we are.

News / WikiLeaks Reveals Tense Foreign Relations Amongst Poland. [22]

Somehow I'm not surprising you would support the invasion of Chechnya.

Remember the FSB trying to bomb an appartment building in Moscow? Who were the terrorists there?

History / Lwów, Wilno ... kresy - Poland have lost enormoust part of our heritage... [389]

The Radziwill family was Polish??? Hahahah :))) You made my day.

When one of the clan said at a party he was Lithuanian, someone asked him to say something in Lithuanian. Everyone had a good laugh. In Lithuanian their surname is Radvila, but they to this day use the Polish Radziwiłł. I can introduce you, if you like, and you can kiss the Prince's hand.

News / Krystian Legierski - First openly gay Polish elected official [20]

You don't think posting it helps to sway people's opinions on whether "Poles are racist homophobes"?

Not anymore than me trying to convince you all you fellow Oklahomans are Klan members.

Some are. See?

Racist Klan Poland

Do you see the token black there though?

News / Medvedev in Poland [28]

Enough said. Perhaps when they stop enjoying State funds, they'll protest against real things.

That's funny, you being European and all (formerly Scottish), wish students to fund their own education.

So whilst Russia is busy holding its hands up for the Katyn massacre

It's not binding what they have done so far. Duma can vote tomorrow and blame the Germans. The law is what matters. Miedwiediew, in his interview with Lis, played off the Russian court's recent reply to Strasbourg calling the crime an "occurance" and its unwillingness to hand over the Katyń files in a casual way. He simply said he is not aware of it. M. is a lawyer, mind you. 66 volumes are still secret. What Polish historians think is that there must be evidence in the record of German-Soviet co-operation during the time of extermination of Polish intelligence. Gestapo and NKVD did meet several times and certainly discussed the Polish opostion. Then they proceeded in carrying out the crime. Another thing we know that should be there is a film, or rather the copy, as the original was given to North Korea in 1950 as a training film, of, well, we will see if they ever declassify the files.

Not surprisingly, there is no discussion about concrete issues that prevent us from drinking together, but the show must go on.

Very good move on Russia's part, as Poland is about to take EU's presidency soon, at least they know what they are doing.

You socialist scum should unite in denouncing this post. :)

News / John Godson, born in Nigeria, might become Poland Sejm's first black deputy! [313]

..... hmmmm.... and nationalist Poles try and say they not racist - that their nationalism is all better and Holy, unlike Nazism..
Yet they do not like blackey ?

Jarnowa is Belgian, you nitwit. I'm a Nationalist and I don't see any issue here. If the people want to elect him, he is in. Simple as that.

It seems you do not understand nationalism, any of it.

Life / The Polish school? What's it like. [26]

Not to mention that they do something like 12 different subjects at high school.

When I was a kid in Poland I had chemistry, physics, botany, zoology, and biology in primary school. Then I went to the U.S. where I jumped a grade and had SCIENCE.

It creates a situation where vast amounts of peope have "papers" but very little skill or ability for the real world.

Apparently your "paper" didn't prepare you for much. Teaching English to foreigners is what most backpackers can do also, and do.
