Life / Polish plantlife and similar flora where you live. [81]

First photo is of the grape vine, it is loving the new trellis I put up for it to support it :)
You can see the section of the older plant on the bottom right.
I planted this section from a much bigger grape vine last summer.

Grapes are coming along nicely, I think, never had them before.

Last two photos of are of the raspberry bush also planted last year, some of the berries have ripened but still a bit to go.

Not at all! (welcome to the male ego :)

They're just so in demand these days. You can't get one from anywhere.

i know, I know, i searched everywhere, even behind the coach.

I always liked Sarlotka he was my most favourite member <wonder how much the threads would be worth>

No!, he was my favourite member <I don't know but maybe I could squeeze a drink or two out of it, fancy making a deal 50/50?, if you or I get it?>

News / Polish Mom claims daughter got pregnant from swimming in pool! [162]

the hotel’s mixed-sex pool

Are there single sex swimming pools?.

Kwiatkowska said her daughter did not meet any boys while she was in Egypt.

I do not know Mr.s Kwiatkowskas but mother tend to believe that there children can do no wrong.
I am not calling her a liar but I think you all know what I mean.

that would have had to be one smart sperm

Well the probability is quite remote, i suppose it depends on how much sperm there was in the pool. (eeeewwww!!!).
How does she know it was from the swimming pool?.

They are very popular these days.
Maybe with the freshness of summer and full of vitamin D, people think they have freedom of choice to leave this forum.
Not realising that it is like we are all floating in soapy suds in a sink.
And someone has pulled the plug and no matter what we do or where we go, we just get sucked back in.

Life / Building: treatment methods of and understanding timber in Poland [16]

There is a Knotting paint you get in Ireland that you paint on the knots on raw wood, so that when they are primed and painted the sap does not bleed through.

Does anyone know what I can buy here in Poland that does the same job?.

I've been gagged by the spooks SeanBM...

Ah, they finally caught up with you, I see.

The same for Mirinda or Miranda, no doubt.

As for the repetition thing I've been doing it for years

Years? we are goldfish, just copy and paste from the last edition, sure nobody looks back on any of the threads, anyhow ;)

How about yourself Seanus, have you had a bash as editor of that edition we all love so well?.

Given the repetition on the forum you could probably just start repeating the editions from the beginning again :)

Love / The age of consent in Poland is only 15 [147]

I think at the time a legal age for Jewish girls to marry was 9.

Well now marry might be different, I don't know but there are many places, where people marry off their children at birth or very young, you know arranged marriages and the like.

This topic is on another thread too.

Life expectancy

Upper Paleolithic 33
Neolithic 20
Bronze Age 18
Bronze age, Sweden 40-60
Classical Greece 20-30
Classical Rome 20-30
Pre-Columbian North America 25-35
Medieval Islamic Caliphate 35+
Medieval Britain 20-30
Early 20th Century 30-40

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_expectancy

And might i just add

Bronze age, Sweden 40-60

, well done Sweden :)

History / The Celts in Poland. [71]

Yeah, maybe but there are existing high crosses in Ireland dating back to the 6th century that are still in fairly good condition.
But of course they have been maintained.
Here are some photos of the historic ruins of Monasterboice en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monasterboice It was founded in the late 5th century.

Also
bluffton.edu/~sullivanm/muiredach/muiredach.html
Here is a good site

These Celtic crosses show a cross over from Celtic pagan religion to Christianity.
For the transition from a pagan religion to Christianity to take place, the Catholic church used pre-existing festivals and symbols from the pagan religion.
So like in Poland you have Wianki which is the reminisce of a pre-Christian religion, so the Church renamed it St. John's day.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wianki

Same thing happened in Ireland, Halloween is from pre-Christian times.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halloween

What I find interesting is the symbolism used on the crosses at Monasterboice, i will continue this in a while

History / The Celts in Poland. [71]

Do you know that before Poland become Christian country in 966 there were churches (not many ) build by Irish missionaries?

I am searching for this but I can't find anything.
I am curious if they built these churches with any Celtic elements.
The next element of Celtic symbols I was going to do were the high crosses which only stopped being made in the 15th century.
So if anyone knows any churches build by Irish missionaries pre-966, I would like to look it up.

History / The Celts in Poland. [71]

Go raibh mile maith agat.
I will continue this thread soon with, Sheela na Gigs, Celtic crosses (the mix of Paganism and Christianity) and other stuff I find interesting.

"Sheela na Gigs (or Sheela-na-Gigs) are figurative carvings of naked women displaying an exaggerated vulva."
On the corners of Churches no less.

In Ireland we say Síle-na-Gig (Sheela nah Ghee)

sheel-na-gigs

Hhmmm... "Another theory, espoused by Joanne McMahon and Jack Roberts, is that the carvings are remnants of a pre-Christian fertility or Mother Goddess religion."

This is the theory i am more familiar with, although looking through the web there are a number of theories, feel free to post what you think :)

"The Divine Hag of the Christian Celts "
Or the goddess
Cailleach is said to ward off evil spirits and also is a fertility symbol.

1Kids stage a performance in costumes from another country to celebrate Europe`s Day. What two countries are here?

Ok so Spain but the other country....
Could it be Poland?.

3What Polish saying does this pic visualise?

The saying is "the village with the boarded up windows" meaning "out in the country side"?.

5What`s up?

They fell and the Bride is helping the groom up?.

8 What is it?

Ah ha! it is a spiral stairs!.
Either a new construction to get from the other side of the street behind the photographer.

OR

It is an old construction, part of the underground passage/crypt of that castle looking thing in the background?.

Life / Polish plantlife and similar flora where you live. [81]

I moved to a bigger, better place where the grass is greener.

Was it on the other side of the fence :)

Working on a small blanket box right now.

Nice, I have been "building" a cupboard at home for the past year and a half. ha ha ha ha, I have a prioraty list and somehow it fell to the bottom of that list.

Nah, I use my viciously cute cat for that.

The one in your avatar thingy?.
