Work / Salary and cost of living information - Krakow [257]

@DominicB

Sorry must've misread.. Bit tired long day man...

Tytpically 3% 3.5% growth is generally onsidered good stable growth for us economy.. Not totally sure about polanda as I haven't studied it as extensively. However Poland was one of the few eu countries to continue to grow throughout the recession. The Baltic tigers as they're known also exhibited fantastic growth given the circumstsnces.

Too much growth can lead to its own unique problems as we've seen in some instances in China. Of course growth is better than stagnation and decline.

Well I think well be seeing an increase in the zlotys value

Immigration is def increasing. The population has grown quite a bit in pl which I see as a good thing. Some poles worried about brexit as well as those who make money abroad a lot of the timed move back to pl or will work in another country but spend their money in pl. Also while.many of the ukranians that came now there's professionals among them too n also good parents tend to strive to provide their kids w an education work ethic morals etc. So I think kind of like w the fobs that came to us from poland many prolly vast majority will take blue collar type jobs w a few professionals in the mix. However those ppls kids tend to strive for more education higher wages pursuing their dreams and passions etc.

Actually Dominic according to a recent article on financial times polands growth forecast was further increased by Moody's. Yes you're right at first investors were a bit concerned about pis but it appears much of that anxiety faded

Check out the ft article it discusses more the situation w pis. The second article is decent too.

thenews.pl/1/12/Artykul/324007,Moody's-strongly-upgrades-Poland's-GDP-growth-forecast

Like with any government and political party, there's pros and cons. Ill be the first to say I don't agree with all pis does and also that po has some good ideas too. There's good and bad in political parties agendas just like in every country.. (With the exception of some really tiny fringe political parties of course.. And if seems like every country has a few.)

Work / Salary and cost of living information - Krakow [257]

Idk what percentage but id say there's tens of thousands foreign residents in Warsaw. In wroclaw maybe 7 8k but that number easily goes up to 130k 140k if we included ukranians. This study below is looking at 'residents' but imo the amount of foreigners coming through warsaw is far larger. Even wroclaw has a ton of foreigners from all over but yes most are tourists although each year more and more study and work. Especially from India China Korea I've noticed lately..

According to wiki estimates of foreign born people in Warsaw range from as lil as 21k to as high as 60k and up to 150k as of 2016. Again tho imo ukranians undoubtedly make up the majority. So roughly 1.2 to 8.5% of Warsaw is foreign

Life / What do Poles think of Indians? [35]

Its worth noting though that while there's many Indians that come to Poland to work or study, most end up going westward to Germany uk etc. However there's quite a few that settle down and even buy homes have families get married to poles and stay put.

Life / What do Poles think of Indians? [35]

Poles don't hate indians. They may view the country as rather poor but there isn't much overt racism against indians themselves. Only case I can think of is of a Sikh who refused to take off his turban before entering a club and the bouncer wouldn't let him in. Some say he was being racist, others say he was enforcing the dress code (usually things like hats, sweat pants etc are discouraged at clubs esp higher end ones).

Generally poles and Indians get along well and there are many Indians working in it, as engineers, some own businesses, etc.

Poland has opened up a lot in the past 10 years. In the 80s and even post prl 90s you'd rarely ever see foreigners like Africans Indians Chinese etc. There's been a Vietnamese community since commie times though, at least in my city. Now there's tons though - both tourists and workers. You have people from everywhere - west Africa China Korea Germany uk France india Spain Portugal Italy USA pakistan Chechens Georgians Ukrainians (over 1 mln ukranians migrated in the past 3 years) etc

Honestly the only group that poles discriminate against are Muslims from north Africa and middle east mainly due to the terror attacks rioting etc thats been going on regularly since the migrant crisis. However they are welcoming to the chechen Muslims that have come in and assimilated in the past few years

Sometimes blacks are called monkeys but this is generally limited to football games and black soccer players. Its not just Poland it seems in Ukraine Russia etc they do that too. However in like the larger city squares you'll see a few Africans mostly tourists esp from west Africa and no one bothers them or refuses them service or calls them names.

Just avoid some of the skinhead looking types and you'll be fine. Poles have warmed up to most nationalities in the past 10 years esp since many have worked abroad in places like uk Germany USA Canada etc

News / Mysterious death of Magdalena Żuk on holiday in Egypt [144]

Yea but he's still an Irish citizen tho.. I'm kind of surprised that hi level talks between government figures haven't amounted to anything.. Plus no one goes in front of a judge 37 times. (Unless he's a wealthy American w the money to afford a lawyer to keep issuing continuance that a judge grants upsetting the prosecutor which ends up making him give up n move onto more serious matters, offering a bargain he'd otherwise never give, or losing at trial.. And even then that's like a 10 continuance max)

Also the kid was 17 give him a break. Like u haven't done anything you regretted as a teen?

Btw happy labor day to N e ones who's celebrating it

News / Mysterious death of Magdalena Żuk on holiday in Egypt [144]

This is legally tricky... Idk tho is a travel agency responsible for tourists actions? If some does something stupid crazy or illegal in a foreign country I don't think its the agencies responsibility. I've only read two articles on this case one from uks independent and another polish one. Both said she had a psychotic breakdown. Idk I don't think this was a murder though and it seems like the hotel and hospitals or at least some doc or nurse that was sent to see her did what they could. I think this girl was just crazy and over dramatic maybe got in a fight w her bf bc of his visa being denied idk. Fom what i read anyway it seems like they rly did everything they could esp given she's a tourist in Egypt...

I travelled to Egypt around a year ago (a few months after some 2 dozen copts were beheaded and isis was causing problems in the sinai and tour buses were getting shot up and people kidnapped) because my lawyer friend received some 5 day package from some lawyers reception as a gift but his gf was too scared to go and refused to let him go alone (since at the time it was rather dangerous. i went but took a few precautions to make myself look less like an American - growing out a beard, covering my face, etc esp since id be travelling on a us passport. I had grew up in a ghetto and travelled extensively around latam Europe us etc so I wasn't too concerned altho I never was rly in a Muslim majority country till then except Palestine when I had to go to Israel but that still seemed different. I actually felt way safer in Palestine than many other places I've been to btw. Anyway when I went to Egypt specifically Cairo then gizo was totally dead. My hotel was supposed be 3 star and I wouldn't of cared for the lack of amenities as long as it had a clean bed and water - that's rly all I require when I travel. All the hotels restaurateurs gift shops etc said isis along w the Arab spring n changes in government ruined their tourism industry. The whole area around the pyramids was void of tourists the only people there were a few stalls. It kind of ruined my plans to try to blend in and go unnoticed since at some points I literally had a small crowd trying to get me to buy some trinket or have a seat in their cafe. If you're going to Cairo its different but if you plan on going places like giza or any of the ancient sites u might want to be careful. Im sure the tourism will return eventually tho once Egypt stabilizes a bit more.

I recently read a story about a Irish citizen named Ibrahim who's facing the death penalty in Egypt

independent.co.uk/voices/egypt-death-sentence-teenager-brother-why-does-government-fund-them-a7926026.html

This is why you don't phuck around in foreign countries

Obviously flailing your arms and acting like a crazy broad and screaming n everything isn't going to bode well for you esp if you're a young polish chick alone in Egypt..

Travel / Winter clothing for Poland (Gdansk) [11]

Idk I like sheepskin w leather the most for jackets. Seems to be the best for keeping cold wind out. Esp if you're into bikes or live in a windy area.

Yea with the exception of peek n cloppenberg ull pay a premium for imported brands esp us ones.

Travel / Winter clothing for Poland (Gdansk) [11]

Yea reserved and pull & bear I believe it's called has a few decent things and the prices are low. Some of their stuff is pretty tacky and cheaply made. But things boxers socks maybe a t shirt its good for. Sometimes you'll find a nice dress shirt or sweater there. I bought boxers a t shirt with a bunch of maluchy on it and a dress shirt and I paid like 30 40 bucks or so for everything.

Peek and cloggenberg (always forget the spelling) is a great store you can find many good luxury brands. Its more expensive than most average clothing stores in the mall but like for example an Armani shirt will be way cheaper there than at like the Armani outlet. They have a lot of good stuff but again it's pricier than id say most other department type stores or even lil shops in the mall.

If you want super cheap go to the targ (market). There's stalls that sell clothes too. Like 10 years ago I bought an Adidas tracksuit for running for like 60 zloty. Im guessing it was a knockoff but you can't tell the different on higher quality knock off clothes. Purses watches etc ya but not so much a shirt or hat.

Oh also there's north face outlets in some of the larger malls or galerie(galleries) as they're often called.

In general tho imports tend to be a bit pricier than in the us - i.e. Nike basketball shoes, wrangler jeans, apple products, etc.

I noticed also that Europe in general has more trendy clothes. Like the stuff in the malls now in eu seems like theyll become next years styles in the us. Of course there's exceptions with like Italian luxury brands but in general id say European clothes are more stylish and fashionable than us. A lot of the average stuff in American malls would be conducted an older style in Europe. Again not 100 % of the time but just something I noticed throughout my travels throughout Europe and living in the us

Language / What are escorts called in Poland? [25]

Dziwka means $lut. Suka is b!tch and kurwa is literally wh0re but it takes on all sorts of other meanings like for example wkurwiony means really pi$$ed off.

Slang for escorts and hookers or loose women in general is usually dziwka or plural dziwki. Sometimes kurwa or plural kurwy

Travel / Winter clothing for Poland (Gdansk) [11]

Clothes are very cheap and tend to be very high quality esp compared to what's available in malls. Imported brands like Armani Nike guess etc are more pricey but there's tons of polish companies that make jsut as nice stuff at a fraction of the price. For example last time I went I picked up a bunch of button down dress shirts ranging from lime 70 to 120 zloty which is super cheap considering a similar higher end dress shirt costs 40 50 to 100 (or even up to several hundred for an Italian luxury brand like versace).

Anyway Poland is a great place to shop for clothes. Great prices and high quality

Work / Salary for a senior software engineer in Poland [195]

Very slim to none. Youd get maybe 12k 15k at most. There are some jobs though that pay 250k zl a year but they tend to be mid/senior level management at places like oracle 3m etc in Poland. Youd have to be a pretty high level it manager to make 20k zl or more. Such salaries are rare. A salary of 10k 12k is considered high for poland.

USA, Canada / Thousands of undocumented Poles in Chicago [33]

@Crow

The first part yes is true. Most Slavs from the old country know how to weather hard times. Up until like the 90s and even early 00s there were still majority polish russian ukranian etc areas in several major us cities. They tended to be the first areas a new migrant could arrive find work and housing and generally live without knowing much english. There's way less immigration now among Slavs than there use to be and most of those areas around here still have some Slavs but most have moved onto suburbs or other areas with new found wealth. Some even went back to euroep

@Crow

That is actually quite true about difference between Serbs and poles lol. Poles don't rly care about fixing Chicago's bad neighborhoods. We live peacefully with Hispanics and other whites. Plus most of the crime comes out of certain neighborhoods that are like 80% 90% black. Not that other neighborhoods don't have problems with guns but most of the shootings tend to happen in black areas. Local groups state governments and other groups church groups all diff types of ppl have tried to solve it except for the feds which I think would clean it up literally the same day they arrive. If u had even just like 20 30 dudes from the marines national guard whatever spread out on the streets in Englewood ud greatly limit the hard drug traffic and shootings right away.

Life / Is Poland split into two religions: catholicism and non-believers? [103]

@Joker

Exactly. If there's Muslims that are vetted, educated or at least skilled in something, will assimilate work and provide for his family then by all means take them in if they're a net benefit to the country. However based on what we've seen all over Europe since this migrant crisis started and Europe was flooded we've had 2 years of state of emergency in France and still ongoing, regular terror attacks, hundreds of thousands living off welfare, making sharia patrols and sharia courts, assaulting women, and not paying taxes im sorry I don't see how such people are 'enriching a country.' Europeans graciously take them in, give them shelter and even money because they won't eat the food the refugee center gives them and there's plenty of videos of migrants throwing perfectly good food out bc they don't like it so they want cash instesd, and they pay us back by assaulting women and committing terrorism. Of course not all of them are doing this but even the moderate ones force their ideology on their new country - they demand crosses be removed from churches bc it offends them, thousands violently demonstrate during events like the pro Palestine rally and torched cars buildings attack people entire neighborhoods go up in flames and look like war zones. Its ridiculous.

The west eu elites are such cowards that they tell their countrymen that terrorism is now simply something that they have to get use to.. Not to mention all the other issues caused by this migrant crisis that Europeans have to deal with. Trucks can't even go through Calais without being attacked by hordes of migrants.

Well poles refuse to accept such a defeatist cowardly attitude. The vast majority has spoken - we don't want it these kind of issues that came with massive unvetted unskilled migrants. Apparently this year less than 2% who came in are even Syrian refugees. According to cbos, even half of po and nowoczesna supporters doesn't want massive amounts of migrants from m.e. and Africa while with pis and kukiz its closer to 90%. The polish citizens have spoken and its now the duty of our government to enact policies in line with the wishes of the people. Thankfully they've been doing that lately. Even when they felt they were wrong on their original stances on abortion and the judiciary issue they listened to poles and did what the polish people wanted.

USA, Canada / Thousands of undocumented Poles in Chicago [33]

Sorry for the rant it just sickens me when I see and deal with this stuff everyday. Even earlier today I go get a coffee and some bum is standing outside asking me for a dime. Normally I don't give them a penny unless they're visibly handicapped as some of em are. For whatever thus time im like whatever I can spare a dime. So I reach in my pocket and pull out the change and sift through it trying to find him a dime. Well before I can blink he takes all the change from my palm.

That's basically a metaphor how Chicago is run and how so many people act. Its truly a savage city.

I cannot wait till I'm done with school, have my target in terms of savings met and can start working and travelling abroad. I've lived here on and off for some 20 years and I'm just sick of it. It wasn't even thus bad till like 5 6 7 years ago and then slowly but surely things got worse and worse.

USA, Canada / Thousands of undocumented Poles in Chicago [33]

@Crow

Buddy I'm joking w you about the chetniks w aks and t72s... Actually I think yugos made their own tank the m80 or something like that I forget the name..

Chicago is a very very corrupt and violent city. If batmans Gotham city were real life itd be chicaho. From this Saturday to Sunday alone we had 60 some shootings and 8 dead. And this is considered success because its a tad lower.

Blago wasn't all that bad of a guy in all honesty. I've seen him a few times in Chicago restaurants being the life of the party after a few drinks. However he was corrupt just like the majority of our politicians publix school admins and superintendents (many of em make 250k 300k even up to 400k plus salary but a pension that's equal to winning the little lotto). Most of em are dems and they all talk the talk but never walk the walk. They talk on and on about how bad crime is how schools are failing and need more billions (we spend more on just public schools just in illinois than most small countries do for their entire program). They talk about gun violence and how there's so much crime yet they all live in the most exclusive suburbs in palatial homes. One politician said she would spend a bit of time living in the projects to better understand the residents issues. Well she high tailed it after a week fearing for her own safety. Even paramedics are scared to go to the west side because the cops typically escort them and its bad for business. Pretty much from dawn to dusk there's lines of people in certain parts of the west side where guys make a line anywhere from 20 50 to even 100 ppl long waiting to buy drugs. And its like that almost every other block for miles and miles on the west side especially as soon as you get off at any exit on 290 leading out of downtown. Its craziness.... And now they raised state income taxes again and even started charging 7 cents for a freaked plastic grocery bag. There's new taxes every few months yet they still never have money and ask for more.

Chicago is very pretty in terms of the downtown area. Its for the most part safe, clean and has lots of beautiful old buildings form the early 1900s mixed with ultra modern skyscrapers. Its great to visit and great to shop, go out to eat, go to the clubs some of which don't even really close but you can count on at least 4 5 am closing time. A lot of em bump our famous Chicago hard house which many polish djs like dj caffeine markski bizerk etc are well known worldwide.

However the extremely high taxes for everything ranging from gas to income to cigs (cost as high as 16 17 a pack) to even a grocery bag. We use to own a dentist office that we leased out and they kept raising taxes on residential and commercial properties to the point where our property tax alone on that building was 20k a year. If we had it still it would've been even more. And this isn't some half million or million dollar building - we sold it for like 180k 200k something like that. We were lucky to sell it because even though the area is middle class there's storefront after storefront sitting empty for years with for sale and or for lease signs. So how can a real estate investor or a small businessman make any money? You'd have to basically charge 3k a month to rent it out just to cover the taxes and maintenance and after that you'll maybe have a few hundred bucks left for yourself - and that's assuming you own the building outright with no mortgage.

They're taxing people to death here. People are leaving in record numbers. I too plan to leave soon. Even in wealthiest neighborhoods you'll see even as many as 30 40 even up to 50 houses for sale within a 1 or 2 mile radius. All these people are downsizing or planning on renting a nice home or townhome or something because the property taxes are simply unbearable. Now Chicago is a city of renters and less and less home owners thanks to them. Meanwhile section 8 people get to rent a $1500 a month apartment for 20 30 bucks since taxpayers cover the rest. If you tell them theyd responsible for $100 with section 8 as their part of payment they'll tell you it's too expensive. Or even worse they'll purposely damage stuff like a toilet or my favorite sell the appliances and claim they broke and they put em in the alley. Now the landlord has to spend thousands on new appliances because the section 8ers refused to pay 20 50 100 bucks for a 3 bedroom apartment that would otherwise go for 1500 a month. Utter insanity. And hard working people have to pay for these bums who don't work and want everything for free and wake up at noon sit around drinking doing drugs till evening then start shooting at people at night. Maybe they'll work under the table once in a while if they feel like. I could literally write a novel on all the b.s. that goes on around here. Its sickening and totally unfair to the people who want to work and make a better life. But no their money is basically redistributed to bums.

And if it was just the taxes but at least the parks are pretty the crime is low the roads are good the schools are too notch you'd say okay fine. However all those things are absolute sh!t. I've been all over the us and in a lot of other cities its nothing like this. People in Arizona pay as little as 1k 2k a

Well if they put chetniks with ak47s on every corner of the southside and patrolled the neighborhood with Russian t72 maybe just maybe they'd bring the crime rate down.

Yesterday on the news there was a segment how a 17 year old black kid from Austin stole a lieutenant fire fighters car. Well the guy shot him because he was jacking his car! News / 2.79% of Ukrainian asylum seekers granted asylum [46]

@Dougpol1

They still Took in migrants and gave them residency permits visas work permits etc. They didn't have to do that.. But this did for several reasons - one because fewer and fewer poles want to work for peanuts at low wage low skill jobs, two - they can tell the eu to cut the $hit with accepting migrants since they already did their part three - low birthrates four - most poles support Ukrainian migrant into Poland (slightly more than half 55% support 40% don't support Ukrainian migration rest undecided)

Also the Ukrainian refugees you speak of who left donbass donetsk luhansk etc went to kiev. I know two people who fought on the front lines as volunteers. Some did end up in Poland later. However such people are considered internally displaced which to my understanding doesn't qualify one for asylum.

Yes cbos. Three quarters of poles said they don't want migrants from middle east and Africa. Actually 74% to be exact. 22% are for relocating migrants from me and Africa with rest undecided. 55% of poles are for accepting Ukrainians with 40% against.

@Dougpol1
There's over 120k Ukrainians in wroclaw alone. Almost all came within the past 2 3 years. Based on the huge number of Ukrainians that have come in the past few years and over 1 million work permits issued id say Poland is helping out Ukrainians.

Crow thats not really true. Most admin positions in the city are held by a mix of Anglos blacks Irish and italian and a few jews. Poles tend not to work government type jobs here. Maybe a few teachers maintenance guys but almost none in higher level admin jobs. There's one polish guy i know high up in the labor department but he's 2nd generation and rather an anomaly.

Also most poles live in the suburbs or outskirts of the city now but def not rural areas. There's a fraction of the poles left in the old polish areas its mostly all Hispanic now. When the polish immigrant waves came during the 80s and 90s most settled in the city in places on the north side like jackowo, Belmont street, Jefferson park, a few pockets on the south side. Some newer arrivals still settle down there and some have stayed but there's def way less poles than there use to be in the city some 10 20ml y ears abo. The city is not a good place to live for an adult to live for tons of reasons let alone for kids and almost all of them including myself moved out to the suburbs once they had enough money or had kids.
Dirk diggler

USA, Canada / Thousands of undocumented Poles in Chicago [33]

@delphiandomine

Most are people who overstayed visas and decided to stay and work often in construction or housekeeping hospitality type jobs. The amount of poles here illegally is drastically lower than it use to be in the 80s 90s 00s. Many people left during prl times on a tourist visa and never came back and ended up settling down having kids etc. Also a lot of polish women end up coming here looking for a husband just to get citizenship.

Knowing as many poles as i do here id estimate the number of undocumented at around 5k to 20k. 100k seems like way too high of an estimate as there's around 1 mil poles but they're counting fobs along with 1st 2nd etc generation. In the 90s yes 100k would be accurste. Most of those fobs are now citizens or at least have a green card.

Also a lot of these poles have saved up their money and went back home because well the us isn't what it was when they first arrived some 10 20 years ago.

@jon357
Not really. I know several polish people who were pulled over for speeding driving without a valid license etc. The cops in chicago don't really care about the poles as they tend not to cause serious problems and don't form street gangs. Also chicago is a sanctuary city so it'd be up to ice to deport all the illegal poles hispanics etc. Its the same with hispanics there's probably 10 20 illegal hispanics for every 1 illegal pole. The police dont hassle people here about immigration status in chicago.

Life / Is Poland split into two religions: catholicism and non-believers? [103]

@Joker

Of course not. Even if poles who don't go to church regularly the mast majority still identify as catholic. Poles even ceremonially crowned Jesus the king of Poland. Were a deeply catholic country and we want it to stay that way. Only a true pole would understand how important Catholicism is to us as its shaped our customs our traditions and even laws and the days off work that we have for religious holidays.

150k poles at masz niepodleglosci chanting things like were catholic, always the gospel never the koran, god country honor, etc. There's subtitles in English youtu.be/Xk_UBglPJKU

Tens of thousands of poles chanting 'we won't want islam' youtu.be/5x_HabnO6ok

That's why I keep explaining to Jon that yes poles do want to remain in eu, but 3/4 are against migrants form m.e. and Africa. He use to deny that was true and try to make people think only a small number of poles reject migrants from middle east when that clearly isn't the case. He'll praise the first fact and use to deny the second so now he simply says that poles need to change, that theyll have migration from m.e. and Africa anyway and ought to prepare for it, the eu should take away membership privileges, and so on. He ignores the fact that Poland took in over a million Ukrainians but for whatever reason has a boner for seeing a flood of specifically islamists coming to poland. To him its more important that a few thousand Muslims are let in than a million Ukrainians Georgians etc which have already been taken in. If anything that's kind of racist because he's implying that its more important for a Muslim to migrate to poland than a ukranian. Its as if he thinks Muslims have special status over Ukrainians when it comes to accepting them. If our quota was to take in 4k 7k whatever migrants we've more than accomplished that as some 1.5 mil were taken in if not 2 mil. Migrants are migrants but he specifically wants to see Muslim and African migrants come to poland. Ukrainian migrants don't seem to fulfill his agenda and extreme bias.

@delphiandomine

Damn that's messed up. See in the us the prosecutor oftentimes has more power than the judge. The prosecutor will make a deal with the defendant and his attorney(s) and the judge will decide whether to accept it or not which they almost always do. I don't remember the exact stats but the vast majority of cases are settled with a plea bargain something like 95 97% plus. Trials are rare unless either the defense is totally confident that they'll win, the defendant has nothing to lose I.e. he's charged with multiple murders or something really bad (and even then often times such cases end in a plea) or the lawyer convinced his client to go with a trial to boost the lawyers payments and prestige if he or she wins. In smaller misdemeanor or low level felony cases wealthier clients will often chose a bench trial option with a judge whom the defense attorney is friendly with.

Anyway something sounds rather fishy. Again I don't have much knowledge on this case but usually the prosecutor/d.a. is the one who offers the plea (a deal) with defense. The judge merely signs off on it and 99.9% of the time the judge will accept a plea the prosecutor and defense worked out as the judge doesn't have the time to do the leg work and is merely there to grant or deny motions preside over trials etc. So it seems weird for da/prosecutor to go back on a plea that he more than likely previously agreed to.

News / Roman Polanski accused of unlawful sex with a minor [403]

I'm not too familiar with his trial and the situation. Has got very powerful friends all around the world im sure he'll be fine he just has to be careful where he goes and all. So one of the victims is changing her story and asking Polanski not to be prosecuted? Am I understanding that correctly? I wonder if she got paid off.. This is a tricky situation from just a brief summary I've read about it.

It seems that the rich and powerful cam get away with pretty much anything. One guy from the powerful duke family raped someone and the judge refused to send him to prison because he 'wouldn't fair well there.' same with Clinton and Epstein.

Meanwhile those who exposed corruption fraud quid pro quo deals like assange or those who exposed surveillance of us citizens like snowden are stuck.

If they really wanted to grab him they could. Kind of like the guy who hid out in Rome after disclosing Israel's secret nuke program. He was honey potted by a mossad agent, drugged, and sent to Israel to stand trial. I believe he got something like 18 or 20 years.
