News / 60% of Poles say Szydło's government should resign [238]

They're counting on German support, German press in Poland, Soros funds or whatnot.

All these are Germans then? This poll is from 19/3/17

PiS - 29% (-5)
PO - 27% (+10)
Nowoczesna - 9% (bz)
Kukiz '15 - 8% (-2)
PSL - 6% (bz)
SLD - 5% (bz)
Partia Razem - 5% (+2)

Work / Salary for a senior software engineer in Poland [195]

@fappper
You'll be paying ZUS, state health insurance and this covers your needs. You'll also (and you need to check this) probably have private cover. Doctors here are very used to dealing with allergies.

how much would I be saving at the end of each month?

Depends on how you live. Certainly you'll be able to save some.

Can you please tell me if there is DUST/POLLEN problem in Poznan? I'm extremly allergic to DUST and pollen.

In summer, yes. Antihistamines and other meds for pollen are cheap though.

Yes, ISIS is the thread

Interesting that you try to dodge your support for Putin with side issues outside Europe.

has called attention to the billions

Not the first or the last to do so.

ISIS

ISIS. Are you crazy? Putin is a high threat to democracy, and a risk to Poland. Interesting to see you praise the Russian dictator...

Kopacz

Is not currently in office and not the topic of this thread. Szydło however is the topic and she is an unpopular premier who should go.

Law / Can a student go in any other Schengen country with a Polish National Visa (D) [46]

Has that changed?

Schengen is one zone for travel. There are no passport checks within Schengen (they can check ID however they can't make any sort of immigration control at airports etc since there are no borders) and if you've a visa issued by any Schengen country it's good for travelling in all of them. Schengen visas don't give the right to settle in other states, however you can visit without borders.

choosing this particular moment to attack the anti-PiSlamic State parties is just a coincide or a reaction

Using lesser events and fake news to divert attention away from real issues is a well known technique. One they're using so blatantly right now that even their own voters laugh at the crassness of it

Study / Wroclaw or Krakow or Bialystok to study in Poland? [36]

For an Erasmus year, Poland is a great choice. There's certainly plenty in Warsaw and the whole point of the Erasmus scheme is to broaden horizons and get experience of living elsewhere in Europe.

A very good quote about the current government:

"There is little to be gained by trying to decipher Kaczyński's plans, goals, statecraft, or ideology...What happened in Brussels was not part of any larger plan...Unlike Orbán, Kaczyński is a paranoid fanatic, not merely a cynical opportunist...It has become clear that Kaczyński will not rest until he puts Tusk in prison. This obviously poses a problem for the EU."

Study / Wroclaw or Krakow or Bialystok to study in Poland? [36]

Would it be better choice Wroclaw rather than Krakow?

I think so. Both are student cities however Kraków is also very very touristy whereas Wroclaw is less so and the student scene is more visible. It has a reputation for being a good place for students.

there are plenty of cheap places to socialise in, as well as plenty of cheap/free activities in English.

This is spot on.

I'm a long way off student age myself however I know all three places well and Wroclaw is a better option than Kraków. Forget smaller places in the east - great for a quiet weekend away however they tend to be places that younger people come from rather than go to.

Study / Wroclaw or Krakow or Bialystok to study in Poland? [36]

Life in Wrocław or Kraków would be all but impossible

Plenty of students in those cities have less than that, and as I said, there is plenty that is geared to students.

4000 PLN to spend

That is higher than the median salary for a working person.

beyond a student's budget

There are still plenty of activities and plenty of nightlife in Wroclaw that is geared to a student's budget. In fact there are thousands of students there.

I would consider the eastern cities, Rzeszów, Lublin and Białystok

These are places people are more likely to come from rather than go to.

bit provincial and backward

It's more the attitude there, even of educated people. I wouldn't mind living there myself (and have a weekend dzialka very near) however a younger person, particularly a student, would almost certainly be happier in a city with a large student population.
