UK, Ireland / Sad life of a Polish migrant in the UK. Ch. 5 - Racism [259]

I have a hidden agenda, and I will now post another thread to come clean.

Cool :)
Perhaps we could first guess what your agenda is?

I think, you work for the EU campaign "For Diversity. Against Discrimination." and due to the recession there is not enough money to employ so many people to go around the different countries to find out what is going on, so you come on here to stir it up and find out what issues need to be addressed.

Admittedly that is not a good agenda but give me time and I will come up with a more fantastic one :)

how after all the load of disdain suffered here would I react to and English guy coming to work in my company? And I honestly don't know.

I didn't realise you are having such a difficult time over there.
A lot of people come on this forum to vent their frustrations but it is not normally that serious.
I thought you were just venting, now I am not so sure.

UK, Ireland / Sad life of a Polish migrant in the UK. Ch. 5 - Racism [259]

In fact a lot of people become racists when they come to know others better and decide the others, their culture, habits and values are undesirable.

I would agree but rather say that racism is the extreme "us" and "them", of course the lines are not always so clear but the extremes are racist.

Saying that young children playing together and without regards to racial differences has a meaning for racial debates

You lost me here, what do you mean?

do gays fight for sexual rights of the straight people? Such as the right to be free from exposure to homosexual exhibitionism?

Again I am not sure what your point is and by the way Lithuania has entered a law about not being able to say positive things about gays in Lithuania.

Bit off topic though.

Nobody can say "if you don't like it here, go back to .... emmm" yeah.

Good chance for some shit eye.

Did you mean 'shut eye' and it was a slip of the wrist? :)

UK, Ireland / Sad life of a Polish migrant in the UK. Ch. 5 - Racism [259]

It seems to me that this thread is being deflected, as always, to racism in Poland, it is not about that.
None of us can say there is a country without racists or xenophobes but it is to what degree it exists that counts.
Combat 18, white wolves (Wiki en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Combat_18)
is an example of a minority group that are violently racist.
Shameful really, especially when considering how much Britain lost fighting this in WWII.
And that, I think is the point, the U.K has it's problems but the majority try to get along with others and they have had a lot of practice.

UK, Ireland / Sad life of a Polish migrant in the UK. Ch. 5 - Racism [259]

Not at all, many of them are slang and they came about because of the large immigrant population that we have blacks, asians e.t.c..

? I wouldn't say so.
I would just say that in every language there are derogatory names for other people.
Most of them are American words and lets face it if someone called me any of those names I would not take offence.

I am sure that there is racism in the UK, however the question is: since you are white Ksysia - you are not a a victim of racism, but xenophobia I would say.

Slavic race?

Although admittedly the word race itself means very little to begin with.

UK, Ireland / Sad life of a Polish migrant in the UK. Ch. 5 - Racism [259]

I have to say Torny, I disagree with you in that last post.
There are so many threads about negative aspects of Poland publicised on this public forum.
Why is it not allowed for a Polish person to criticise (in a very light manner IMO) the U.K?

If nothing else it makes for interesting debates.

OK, do you have a term that is derogatory to mean white people? Because we do - Białasy.

Cracker, snowball, snow flake, whitey, honky etc.

UK, Ireland / Sad life of a Polish migrant in the UK. Ch. 5 - Racism [259]

You may translate it as you wish the fact remains that it's constructed to mean blackie

Ah come on now, Czarnuch is a derogatory term, it is not a matter of translation.

But this thread is about racism in the U.K. and not about racism in Poland.
So the argument that some Poles are racist so therefore it is "okay" or "justified" for some to be racist in the U.K. is not a good one.

But as I stated before it is not comparable as there are so few foreign nationalities here in Poland and so many in England and especially London.

Polonia / What About The Poles In The Netherlands? [102]

Which countries are Polish people invited to work?

I think Ireland and the Britain were the first, then Sweden?
Did The Netherlands invite Poles to work legally yet or will they ever if they haven't?

UK, Ireland / Sad life of a Polish migrant in the UK. Ch. 5 - Racism [259]

I think it would be silly to say the British are more racist than the Poles, as there are so few foreign nationalities here (in Poland) and in every nation there are stupid, angry, ignorant people who project their problems on to others.

I think the BNP (Wiki) are the main organised racist group in the UK.

BNP's shock victory in Lincolnshire

And due to the recession, these are more volatile times.

But for all the racism, England and London* work well. On the whole British people are tolerant.

* I say "England and London" because I think London is like a different country to England and I have not lived and worked in other parts of the U.K. so my knowledge and experience does not extend so far.

Do they have split personalities?

I think many Polish people live cheaply and rent houses and flats in poor areas, where it is more likely to come across racists.
It is the same in every country in Europe.

Travel / Recommendations for Krakow and Myślenice [80]

I climbed the tallest mountain, swam the deepest river, in the pit of last night, on a journey that was froth with danger and I found the holy grail or as it is now known as the "Drukarnia Jazz bar".

It is two bars in one, funky place, 7PLN a beer and we got talking to the owner about the Polish women's volleyball team getting the bronze last night.

There is also, what looks like, a very nice restaurant beside the Drukarnia.

Actually Podgórze is an up and coming area in Krakow and there are many pubs/cafe etc

This part is not very true, we went to see if there are any other places and there were but you would not want to go in.

The bar is across the river (Wisła) over to the Podgóorze area, where the new pedestrian bridge is going to be built, when will it be built?, I don't know but they left a pile of rubble there so maybe next summer.

The bridge is only for pedestrians and cyclists and Krakow is becoming more and more cyclist friendly with cycle paths being built pretty much all over the centre.

There are also:

Brand new self-service bike rental stations have been launched in Krakow recently. The stations are located in 11 spots across the city centre:

[cracowonline.com/403,Self-service_bike_rentals_in_Kr.htm] - From here

You can read about the bridge.

This map shows where the bridge will be built and the Drukarnia is on the the south side of it.

Something else of real note in Podgórze and very near the Drukarnia :) is a fantastic Neo-Gothic St. joseph's Church.

Travel / Recommendations for Krakow and Myślenice [80]

I am coming to Krakow in May and going back to the student pub Drukarnia , just for "old times sake of course".

I have just heard that the Drunkarnia pub moved across the river (Wisła) over to the Podgóorze area.
And being the intrepid explorer I am, I will bravely seek out this bar and others.
Actually Podgóorze is an up and coming area in Krakow and there are many pubs/cafe etc there, so I will check it out.

They are supposed to be building a foot bridge across but I see no work done on it so far.
I also heard that the Drukarnia moved out of Kazimerz because it has gotten too expensive and click there.

Genealogy / Genetic difference between Poles and selected others. [83]

Genetic difference between Poles and selected others.

Wanted to point out that there is really no much different.

Lodz_The_boat, you chose a strange title.

How different are we Poles from:

1. Germans
2. Iranians (Persians and Medes)
3. Indians (As of India in Asia)
4. Africans
5. British (the anglo-saxon)
6. Chinese

Try chimps.

The human and chimpanzee genomes differ by just 1.2% between the coding genes.

chimp

In many cultures its regarded as a symbol of peace and harmony. Untill it was demonised by the Germans in WW2

It was a WWII swastika, don't play innocent.

I firmly believe that there will be smiles everywhere... one day... very soon!

Not on this thread.

Genetic difference between Poles and selected others.

What do you think it means to be genetically different?
The usual racist remarks, a swastika and all on the first page.
It will all end in tears.

Love / What do Polish Guys Like Women to Wear? [64]

I am not Polish and I should not be answering this thread but I will.

It doesn't matter what a woman wears.
What matters is how she holds herself, posture, a friendly demeanour and a smile.
A positive mental attitude is also very attractive.

There is far too much distracting pressure for people to dress like a movie star, it's just rubbish.

There, i told you I shouldn't be answering ;)

Law / The Euro, is it a good idea for Poland? [66]

I was thinking of a light coloured wood with a blue background, huh,, i might have to reconsider.

It depends on where it is, but the Dutch Guilder is so colourful, I would choose a dull background to bring out the colour more.

Bit of Van the man Gogh in that one :)

South Africa Rand has a very interesting currency, the more the note is worth, the more dangerous the animal is that appears on the note, at least that is partly true, it starts off with springbok and goes all the way to Rhinos hahaha
