News / How will BREXIT affect the immigrants in UK and Poland. [1114]

I think I understand you, Idem. Everything's subsided for now, but immediately following [THE] Brexit vote, [THE] UK began showing it's ugly, xenophobic side. Is that what you wanted to say? If so, I agree with this assessment.

Then again, xenophobia's never been far below the surface throughout much of Europe. Germany for example, about which I can speak amply from personal experience is "de-fanged" for the present time, yet, as we saw with PEGIDA and AfD, ant-foreign sentiment seethes below the surface, same as in France, Poland, Sweden, The Netherlands, even Denmark:-)

News / How will BREXIT affect the immigrants in UK and Poland. [1114]

Indeed it must be, in fact, it IS:-)) The Polish version is nearly the same.

You're telling me! If there were any more disunity within the Continent, we might start calling her Asia ( a reference to the other continent of many nations with NO all-encompassing Council)LOL

Again, though, without the Brexit, you folks gain, with Brexit, you lose. For this reason, I'd wager the majority of Poles, as well as other foreigners living in the British Isles, are in favor of Brexit.

Probably you're right, Idem! Anyway, I think Great Britain's actions were both precipitous (zbyt pospieszny), not to mention politically inept, especially at a period in our history when cooperation, not separatism, remains our greatest asset in the fight against organized terror:-)

As ISIS is united in its war against the West, how must it look to ISIS leaders to see their enemies do disunited amongst each other? Gives one pause for though, doesn't it.

Po polsku / Czy Polonia ogladala TV przesluchanie Comey'a? [24]

Przed kilkoma latami byl James Comey "przyjacielem Polonii" z powodu jego zapiskow o "obozach koncentracyjnich NIEMIECKICH w Polsce"! Ale teraz wolowal naszego US Prezydenta Trumpa "klamcym" itd.. Co myslicie o czlowieku, ktory dyskredytowuje mezczyzni (Trumpa), ktorego Polonia calkowita zaglosowala?

The predicted loss of Conservative seats in Parliament and the resignation of PM May will be a real game changer, won't it!
Does this adumbrate a Corbyn victory or will it have to go through the courts first as it does here in the States?

Study / SWPS university Warsaw - questions [43]

You have to pass an English exam to study in Poland??!! Ha-ha, good oneLOL Would I have to conversely pass a Turkish test in order to study in Germany?

:-)

Sounds like a Marx Bros. routine, only updated in order to fit globalization chaos!! What a hoot.

Life / Why are Muslims seen as a deterrent to Poland? [564]

Rather than blame any one president for the excesses of radical extremism, I suggest a book "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man" by a certain Perkins felllow (can't recall his first name), detailing the US role in depleating various Emirates of their oil as well as other natural resources and exploiting their citizens (among the poorest on the planet, except perhaps for Haiti) through deal making with wealthy sheiks, sultans, and other such potentates:-)

Ex-Pres. George W. was often seen just before and after 9/11 literally holding hands with members of Osama's clan and nobody said a thing. Or it they did, they

were roughed up (Randi Rhodes, the radio host) or silenced! Those are facts too!

Although I'm not rationalizing Muslim extremism. it is important to understand its roots in order that we can be clear about the problem we're trying to eliminate.

News / Poland's post-commie clique celebrates 25th anniversary [7]

If what is being celebrated is Solidarnosc and their victory over types such as Kiszczak, it sounds as though folks have something to be happy about.

I recommend the movie "Kret" which is about this period and the deep, painful wounds which still divide the country:-) The film took place in Southern Poland, in Katowice, I believe. Could have been in Gdansk though, not really sure while I was watching.

Language / American pancakes are not Poland's naleśniki! [45]

In Germany, in certain areas, they're known as "Kartoffelpuffer", sort of like "potato fritters":-)

Many European countries, particularly in those regions in which the potato's long been a staple crop, have some variety of the potato pancake, or some type of filled center and a crusty dough layer.

Language / American pancakes are not Poland's naleśniki! [45]

"Placki ziemniaczne" are roughly the Polish equivalent of "potato pancakes", among Jews, also known as latkas aka "latki", to be linguistically correct! Delicious with homemade Polish apple sauce and smietana or "sour cream" as a side dish with some nice kielbasy/bigos and kasia, yum-yum!!!

Life / Why are Muslims seen as a deterrent to Poland? [564]

Germans refer to such fellow citizens living within their midst who hold German citizenship, were also BORN in Germany (though aren't technically "ethnic" German) as "Auslandsdeutsche" aka "foreign Germans"!

While perhaps judged unfair from an Anglo-Saxon perspective, Germany is far from the only country which tends to single out those of foreign parentage or lineage by their ethnicity as different from their nationality:-)

History / Bialystok most famous son. Albert Sabin or Ludwig Zamenhof [8]

"Typical(-ly) Jewish names, [aren't they]?" - Nooo, they're not!

Ahemm, the great Viennese archictect and designer "Josef Hoffmann" was an Austrian gentile, "Funk" as a family name is pure German (means "iskra" or "spark" in English:)), and "Bem" is Polish, if I'm not mistaken:-)

My Hebrew stinks. How about your Latin?

Who's bashing the Poles? Yo dude, if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen!! Sure, the truth hurts, but in the long run the more you love someone or something, the more you'll be willing to tell unpleasant truths...in a tactful way of course:-)

I see your box no longer accepts private messages from member posters at this time. Pity. I think your native language might be interfering slightly with your understanding of my point.

Counter intuitive, spiritus! By definition as well as sheer logic, if something's not "right" and not "center", it's gotta be "left":-) What else is there? Short menu there, bud.

If you mean that I'm categorizing, well of course I am and I freely admit it. It's human nature to judge. Why deny it?

The right does the same thing though, idem! The prevailing trend however is that the right is "now", "today", and "cool", whereas the left is someone "doughty", "too sixties", "too earthy crunchy", "too out for the underdog"!

See, the latter is the unfortunate fallout from the Reagan Era. His administration let all the stops out regarding standard, political correctness, decency, and fairness. His represented as much a sea change in world thinking as Hitler and the Nazis represented in their time; it stood existing, even pre-existing convention concerning right and wrong on its head, challenging people to almost short-circuit life by removing all the unpleasantness, the stuff which makes us all human, not perfect.

As far as Poland and the "threat" coming from the Muslim community, the real threat comes from the far-right which has been stoking hatred for so long, it's now backfired!

Any agenda, be it "ultra=" liberal, conservative, or green etc. is showing its particular slant. Only your agenda of course is slanted in the "right" direction, eh?
