Genealogy / Weryho-Darowski family [21]

aida56,

The best place to ask for help on English genealogy is: Rootschat.com

Not rootsweb. There is a difference.

When doing Genealogy in England you might have problems with the 'hundred year rule'

'Veryho' sounds Ukranian.

If you find out where your family came from then look at a pre-war map it might make sense.

simon_porter00,

I understand what you are saying and I agree with most of post #40. However, I still think that guests have to learn more about the county they are visiting. And I for one don't want pictures of security guards in my album.

Simon_porter00,

Your second to last paragraph. The point is that locals [in any city] should never have to feel threatened.

As for the World Cup, that is every four years not every weekend. Are you saying that we should have British bobbies on the streets of Krakow every weekend.

I agree some Polish youth can be as bad.

Now I understand and I agree.

I should tell you that I'm from England, older than most, and out of touch with some things as I've been here for quite some time.

I stand corrected.

Might this be true: Too much money, not yet married, and an attitude of F*** you.

Am I right in saying that these 'boozers' are in the 18-25 age group.

I seem to remember a few countries complaining about 'brits' on binge weekends.

Learning the language seems not important when you are with friends on a long weekend.
Many of these people never come back. They go and annoy someone else in another capital.

Everyone in London has a smile and is willing to help at a moments notice. I think not.

This smile thing is a bit silly. Who goes around with a smile on their face all day long ?
It doesn't matter where you are. People don't smile without reason. For the most part people are getting on with their lives and have no reason to smile at those they don't know.

But you can be sure that Polish folk do have a good sense of humour and it does show itself, if you look.

Travel / Is it safe to travel to Poland? [194]

I can see that this is an old thread. But.

I've never read so much rubbish. Poland is as safe as any other country.

The roads here can be bad and there are far too many accidents. 'Aggresive' driving is not going to help [are you serious Mike ?]

You can book a seat on a train.

Thousands of people visit Poland every year. Some of them will have problems, not all. Visiting Poland is no different to visiting any other country.

Life / Thoughts on Music in Poland [132]

I'd like to know your thoughts on music. Who should I be listening to ? Were are the best places to see bands etc ? How good is Polish music ?

My top band at the moment is 'Ocean'. If German bands like Rammstein can sing in their mother tongue and be popular around the world why can't Polish bands make it on the international scene. It seems to me that the rest of the world is missing out on some good music......
