History / Give back Lwow to Poland and Kaliningrad to Germany - is it possible? [198]

n my opinion EU and NATO leading powers destroyed possibility of Poland`s regain of Lwow

You cannot "destroy" what doesn't exist. There would have been no way for Poland to "regain" Lwów (Lviv) short of military invasion and staggering loss of life. I know Serbians don't care about triviliaties like that, but Polish people do.

Polonia / Work in Denmark? Do you want it? A versatile builder who can speak English needed. [55]

if a Polish builder has equivalent building experience to that of a Dane, and speaks good English, why should he be paid less?

Because he'll still be the odd man out (in terms of language and culture).

I think there's a sliding scale here. If the advantage of hiring a Pole is paying them somewhat less than a Dane that's still good for the Pole if the wage is higher enough than it would be in Poland. It's not like there's only two options Polish flate rate and Danish flat rate.

News / What impact will Donald Trump's election have on Poland? [331]

Did you read Adam Zamoyski's (sic) comment that PIS is not a lurch to the right, it's a return to Soviet style politics

That's what I've been saying forever! Not so much Soviet style, but Soviet era. It's a return to the PRL for the benefit of the losers who couldn't make it under capitalism. In truest soviet style, their campaign (based on becoming a sane Christian Democratish party) was nothing like what they have delivered...

News / What impact will Donald Trump's election have on Poland? [331]

calling people Nationalists or Globalists is slightly off mark

True, it's a bundle of issues on each side (nationalism, localism, social solidarity) vs (globalism, cosmopolitanism, diversity)

people around the table starting talking about Poland's future for survival should be part of a coalition with Russia

Well the current government is all about recreating the PRL (in style if not subtance) and an "alliance" with Russia is part of that. AS soon as they figure out a way to blame Smolensk on Germany then there will be demoludy again.

imagine what is like in Polska B.

Warsaw is Polska B. It was part of the Russian empire (the single biggest marker for Polska B-hood).

News / What impact will Donald Trump's election have on Poland? [331]

Poland being a conservative Country mirrors conservative Trump in many ways.

One of the reasons Trump won the primary was that he _isn't_ a cultural conservative. The real cultural conservatives hated him for not ranting about abortion or homosexuality. He actually addressed the issues that enough people cared about (ie not abortion or gay wedding cakes) that he flattened the fossilized republican field.

Forget left-right, it's dead (well not dead but slipping into a coma).

The emerging new distinction is between Nationalists and Globalists. Trump is a nationalist (like Bernie Sanders or Podemos). Clinton (and Cruz and Rubio) were Globalists. Bernie voters turning into Trump voters makes sense when you look at it that way.

the Polish public is mostly nationalist by default though many of the hot-button issues in the US are irrelevant here.

Food / Help identifying a herb for chicken soup [15]

However, the description of the herb is so vague that no positive ID can be made

My best guess is that she said "marionka" but it's impossible to ID exactly what she was using it of... (again my assumption was that a folk, non-standard name might be used for different herbs at different times in different places).

Probably the peasant term marionka

Phonetically yes, an American could totally hear 'marionka' as 'meightyonka'. In terms of appearance, could the term marionka be used for different herbs in different places?

Language / "A" and "I" usage in Polish language [22]

The freedom of establishment and freedom to provide services in road transport and the Macron Law and MiLoG law.

That's not a sentence. the first and third ands are definitely i, the second... depends on how the sentence continues.

Love / Should I follow her? I met a beautiful Polish woman who has been working in the UK [62]

Best advice: Thank her for your time together and wish her all the best in the future, get a nice (not extravagant going away present) and let her move on with her life while you move on with yours.

Coming to Poland in the circumstances you've outlined would likely (probability about 97%) be a disaster for you (other posters are not exaggerating, listen to them).

Poland can be a great country to live in _if_ you know the language and _if_ you can learn how to deal with the cultural differences (neither one of which is quick or painless).

If you really love her, let her go (it's for the best for both of you).

News / The first PiS led government in 2005 lasted just over 2 years in Poland. [129]

Chairman Kaczynski was recently 're-elected', unopposed, to a fifth consecutive term in office

Term limits for thee...... chairmanship for life for me! Do you expect anything _but_ rampant hypocrisy from JK?

because the budget is illegal

at least you admit it!

News / The first PiS led government in 2005 lasted just over 2 years in Poland. [129]

A third of those polled said that Kaczyńśki won the standoff

Who dares oppose the supreme authority of the land ---- the party leader?

PiS managed to vote a controversial budget bill

Illegally, but who cares? Only those of us who respect the rule of law.... (which no longer exists in Poland).

slowing GDP growth, rising government deficit and falling ratings.

It's what PiS wants - to get corrupt foreign money out of Poland - and lead an impoverished and pious nation.

Voters probably have to - investors however still have the luxury of walking away and voting with their wallets

Just what PiS wants. JK surely would rather have more power in a poor country than less power in a rich one....

News / The first PiS led government in 2005 lasted just over 2 years in Poland. [129]

And what to said young people think of Kijowski, Petru and scamster perty leader Grzegorz Schetyna?

They're probably not happy with them now either Polish politics tend to alienate young smarter people which is unfortunate as it gives the scamsters and mentally ill free reign....

another darling of the liberal left, Jerzy Owsiak

Who's done a lot more for sick children than you ever have (or the assembled memembers of Pis have for that matter).

Octpbrert 2015 verdict of Polish voters

Typical overblown hysterial hyperbole from someone who can't stand the idea that other people have different opinions.

The October 2015 decision of Polish voters was for a government led by Beata Szydło, not a Kaczyński led government that relegated Szydło to the status of mouthpiece for someone else's policy.

The October 2015 decision was absolutely not for the destruction of the rule of law so that it could be replaced by PRL style rule of party leader.

I don't think that the blockade of parliament was necessary after the first night and I think there's no question that the budget was not passed legally but then since when has PiS ever cared about the law?

Get your facts straight.

Love / Wedding after engagement in Poland [8]

Polish people usually get engaged when the woman falls pregnant

Very true. I remember some years ago going for a walk in a botanical park (in the summer) and there were about a half dozen couples doing pre-wedding pictures. Every single future bride was visibly pregnant.

Love / Wedding after engagement in Poland [8]

Never heard of such a thing myself, I won't discount the idea that it was followed in some place at some time.

More likely explanation: She's not very enthusiastic and is hoping for someone more to her liking to come along before tying the knot.

News / American GIs troops finally in Poland and, thank God, there's more to come [480]

Maybe now Poles and Russians, as people, can start their historical reconciliation

Sorry Serbia, but as they say "Do tanga trzeba dwojga" (it takes two to tango)

I can't imagine Polish peoplewant reconciliation without admission of past wrongs (far more by Russia against Poland than the reverse).... and Russians don't want to discuss or admit past wrongs. Forgiving someone who doesn't think they've done anything wrong is a waste of time (or worse).
