Work / Never work for Mike Mills in Warsaw [28]

Who said that the person in question worked for the school that you're referring to?

Still haven't gotten over it, have you? How long has it been now?

News / Poland directly threatened by ISIS. Do Islamists planning terrorist attacks in Poland? [390]

Atleast when Yugo still existed, there wasn't this problem of terrorism in Kosovo or Bosnia.

There's little to no problem with terrorism in Bosnia. You really need to stop reading Serbian propaganda. It's a common theme in the Balkans to accuse the Bosniaks of being terrorists, when in reality, they are very pro-Western in their thinking. Their form of Islam is far more influenced by Christianity than anything else, and the people are Western.

In fact, having visited Republika Srpska many times and Serbia a few times, I'd say that the Serbs are far more Eastern in their thinking than the Bosniaks.

Kosovo might have isolated idiots, but they exist everywhere, including on PF where promoting white supremacy and denying the holocaust happens routinely.

I feel sorry for the Serbs - they try to control the terrorism from spreading and not only do they not get any thanks, they get chastised by the world.

You mean they tried to control things by attempting genocide against people who merely wanted to live in peace, right?

Even Kosovo was entirely caused by Serbian hotheadedness and turning a blind eye to blatant corruption. The stories during Yugoslavia were horrendous - money was being poured into Kosovo and being emptied into local Albanian and Serb leaders pockets, which is why Serbs started to leave for Serbia proper. Even as late as 1998, Serbia could have kept Kosovo firmly under Serbian rule simply by granting the autonomy that the Albanians wanted.

Genuine patriotism (like the American model) can do the job perfectly well, I think. The problem is that in Poland, people don't seem to understand that patriotism involves helping elderly neighbours and suchlike.

Work / Never work for Mike Mills in Warsaw [28]

Strange, I heard a story about that place as well. Something about some guy that was so incompetent that he was fired from every single job he could find in Warsaw, and he now can be found in a Ukrainian town "teeching" while spending his days spreading nonsense about other people online.

Certainly explains why that guy in question has such a grudge against Harry and Jon.

Obviously bitterness goes a long way.

Law / I want to run a Persian (Iranian) restaurant in Poland! [46]

I love watchintg Gordon Ramsay, among others in his "nightmare's kitchens" (when in the US, it's really top ;););) )

I watched this a while ago - youtube.com/watch?v=0f-j1ctaQqw - Marcus Wareing is going to work at 7am and isn't getting home until after midnight. The documentary is worth a watch - those guys are busting their guts to try and win/keep Michelin stars, and even despite it all, Wareing still hasn't won his 3rd star...

The OP would be well advised to watch this if he wants to understand just how difficult it is to actually run a restaurant.

Law / I want to run a Persian (Iranian) restaurant in Poland! [46]

I remember years ago visiting one of those routiers restaurants in France, and the owner even then explained that it was a very tough business to be in, even though he had plenty of passing trade and wasn't struggling for customers. He showed me what a typical day looked like - he was working 14-15 hours a day 6 days a week, with the 'day off' being reserved for business paperwork.

The only restaurants that seem to succeed in Poland in the long term seem to be ones that have a highly successful weddings/event business.

(ah, the days of being able to speak French to a reasonable level...)

Law / I want to run a Persian (Iranian) restaurant in Poland! [46]

I doubt that there would be a lot of clients for Iranian (or Afghan or whatever of the same style) cooking.

That's why I reckon a food truck is the way forward - the capital costs are considerably lower, and a good offer will attract the masses if the location is right. If it doesn't work, then he won't lose much money.

But a restaurant is just a licence to lose vast amounts of cash.

News / How will BREXIT affect the immigrants in UK and Poland. [1114]

I'm afraid it does. Like me, you are inedible stamped with Britishness.

No! Not in my case!

I did hear that..

It won't happen like that. There's no way the UK is suddenly going to demand visas from EU citizens (what for?) and likewise, no way that EU members are going to demand visas from UK citizens. In the worst case scenario, there'll be tourist visa waivers of 3/6 months given and people will have to apply for a residence permit. In reality, the UK is likely to immediately join the EFTA and will sign agreements with the EU on the freedom of labour/goods/services - meaning that nothing really changes.

Much better than selling out to foreigners and promoting foreign cultures' when your own is so great and beautiful.

Except it doesn't work in the long time, because as history shows, nationalism always leads to people turning on their own.

Russia is a splendid example of this today.

News / How will BREXIT affect the immigrants in UK and Poland. [1114]

backing the obvious

Wasn't that obvious ;) I think had the campaign gone on for another couple of weeks, we would've won it. The tide was massively turning against the No campaign, and Gordon Brown's intervention at almost the last minute probably cost the Yes campaign a couple of percent.

But the difference between the positivity of the Yes campaign in Scotland and the dreadful Leave campaign is obvious.

News / How will BREXIT affect the immigrants in UK and Poland. [1114]

In answer to the question "How will Brexit affect UK immigrants in Poland? hopefully they will be booted out after five years if they do not pass the Polish citizenship test.

What test? There is no test.

The new arrivals doing agricultural or warehouse work who don't usually speak much or any English?

Or stacking shelves late at night in a supermarket. I asked one girl once a question and she didn't understand a word, yet she was overjoyed when I repeated the question in Polish.

How can you say that about a country you work in and claim to love?

I'm an optimist. I'd like to believe that the Poles aren't as meek and easily brainwashed as the Russians are.

Thankfully right-wing partner Hungary will reject any punishments.

They won't. Orban isn't an idiot - his power in Hungary depends on not irritating the EU, and Fidesz is also a member of the EPP that created this resolution. Relying on Orban to be loyal is about as stupid as it gets - he has good relations with Merkel and Germany, and he's not going to screw it up for the sake of Poland.

You protesting idiots brought this upon yourself.

Brought what? We're quite happy for Poland to be sanctioned - people will certainly wake up when they realise that PiS is leading the country to international isolation and economic ruin.

78 pages of this topic and only 5 months of PiS ruling, I wonder how much it will be after 4 years hehe

No doubt we'll be discussing which member of PiS is headed first to the State Tribunal by then.

Supposedly only Michnik and Delph are still going on about KOD.

Only Michnik, Delph and a hell of a lot of others. 15,000 in Wrocław last weekend, for instance.

Besides it's in that nasty Polish lingo

Nasty? I quite like Polish. I admit that writing is difficult, which is why I don't write on here - but I'm perfectly capable of reading and speaking in the language.

The only thing is that I wish Polish had more of a melody to it, like Ukrainian or Czech. I'm usually mistaken for one of those two when speaking Polish, so I'm doing something right, wouldn't you say?

All you know is that he has had a maintenance dispute.

It wasn't even a dispute. He had problems with the backpayments because he was unemployed, and now he's in the process of repaying them. Nothing special, and quite honourable that he promised to pay everything back.

Compare this to PiS, where they embezzled millions from the SKOKi and then used it to finance their media.

News / LGBT hate speech to be banned in Poland [208]

Statistics?

Sure. The latest one reveals that 57% think that Duda is not the "President of all the Poles" that he claimed to be.

PiS are only doing well in the polls because PO and Nowoczesna have decided to let PiS dominate the political narrative. It was the same trick they pulled in 2006, which worked incredibly well because PiS couldn't stop themselves from saying and doing stupid things. The end result is well known.

Bloody hell Ironside, you've changed your tune on PiS. That's all they did for 8 years against PO.

Law / How to bring your savings to Poland [9]

radoslav, as terri states, 10,000 is the max on your person, if you were stopped you would have some serious questions to explain away the rest.

Only if he comes from outside the EU. Intra-EU, no-one cares.

Travel / Quiet places to visit outside of Krakow [15]

Can anyone recommend any nice places to spend some time outside of Krakow (within a few hours travel)?

Sanok, which is an excellent base for exploring the Bieszczady region. You can visit charming towns from there such as Cisna and Ustrzyki Dolne, and Sanok itself is a wonderful little town. Depending on your preferences, you might want to spend a couple of days going round the so-called Bieszczady Loop via Ustrzyki Górne, or you might want to base yourself in Sanok and make daytrips from there.

Public transport in summer in Bieszczady is excellent.

News / Poland -- Europe's only counterweight to Russia [271]

You believe that the Us should rule and impose their will to the whole word and whatever country disobeys, it'll be bombed.

Couldn't agree more. There's really not much difference between Russia and America really - both like to interfere, destabilise and abuse for their own purposes.

We since have created NATO (which IS the United States) to protect you from Putin.

Putin became President at the turn of the millennium. NATO was created just after WW2.

History isn't your strong point, is it?

News / Demonstrations in Poland in defence of democracy. [2554]

The KODists are not content to chant and rant in the streets but have resorted to snitchery and involving foreign countries in Poland's internal affairs.

That's exactly what the PZPR used to claim about the opposition movements back then, too.

The reality is that PiS tried to go to the American Senate too.

News / Hackers attack Polish "erotic dating" site, threaten to expose users [35]

Polish traditonal matchmaking was quite an involved affair, but probably not many on here are interested in Polish ethnogrpahy.

You should start a thread about it Polonius, I'd be interested in learning more about such topics.

About encryption - the thing is that it's only as strong as the humans behind it. The guy that had the original Silk Road got caught because he was sloppy, not because the encryption was broken.
