News / Highlights of passing year, in Poland (or elsewhere) which made hot discussions in PF [57]

'Dreams from My Father"

The son of the tribesman who once ate the Polish missionary in Africa and hence we can say that Obama has Polish roots??? :)

With all due disrespect pawian, compared to Obama, you are an amoeba, a single cell organism that got so horribly disfigured during the cell division leading to your existence that, that one cell, you consist of, needed to be amputated straight away.. with a hammer...

Don`t be silly. :)

Ooops, sorry, I made a hasty mistake. Be more silly, please. It is so amusing. :)

PS. Sorry, I didn`t know you are such a fan of Obama. If so, I withdraw. I didn `t mean to hurt your feelings.

News / Failures of Poland and Tusk`s government [191]

Well, probably, since some doomsayers predict catastrophe every year. I don't think it will be a catastrophe.

One of them is professor Rybiński who regularly predicts economic disaster but seldom is right. What about this time? He claims 2013 will be black year for Poland - mass redundancies and unemployment at 15%, lack of funds for medical and other services, tax rises, cuts of investment etc

Obama got reelected, awesome, nice to know the evolution is alive and kicking

Yes, indeed, and many experts here and there were debating who was a better candidate in Poland and Am Polonia` context: Obama or Romney.

I strongly believe he has uttered word 'Poland' numerous times in his life.

Unfortunately, in the process of talking about Poland, Obama scored a major blunder when he mentioned Polish death camps. What a halfwit!

The Israeli army's shameful destruction of an ancient well in occupied Palestine, an ancient well that a Polish charity had nobly restored, certainly made for a heated discussion on the forum, but unfortunately a gang of hasbarist scumbags spammed the thread with off-topic posts and personal attacks leading to its permanent closure.

Hey, yes, I remember it, it was so crowded I wrote one post and withdrew. :):):):)

Let`s live those wonderful moments together!

What do you consider the most important things which have happened in 2012 in Poland primarily (but not only)?

PS. If talking about foreign events, try to connect them with Poland somehow, please, because I want this thread to stay in the Polish section, not off topic.

News / Failures of Poland and Tusk`s government [191]

Despite criticism from all sides, Prime Minister Tusk has just announced that 2013 will be a good year for Poland. Unemployment will go down, Polish bonds will go up, Poland will avoid recession.

Life / Polish comedies are perfectly distorted representation of Polish culture [9]

I was 10 back then

At that age I cared for all animals. I had a fish tank since I was 7. Our parents killed fish.

By the way, what is the English name for that fish's bladder? As kid we were always geting it, to play for some time, to dry it up, and ussualy bringing it to school, to stomp on it during some hated classes.

It is swim bladder.

I was 10 back then

At that age I cared for all animals. I had a fish tank since I was 7. Our parents killed fish.Coming out is still rare in Poland because is met with unpleasant reaction from some Poles: Police officers suspect that one of their mates is gay. Can gays work in the police force?

Police officers suspect that one of their mates is gay.

Annoyed by false accusations, the officer admits he is gay.

He says for an interview: Sometimes a male has to be gay. Imagine Russian astronauts spending a year on their mission in space. [...] Simply speaking, men are cooler than women.

The Rotten West infected decent Poland with the custom of organising stag parties,. Yuk!

It isn`t considered a problem when adult kids live with their parents. A tough policeman`s even tougher mother visists her son at the station.

Drinking is an inherent part of Polish culture, just like in other nations. Historical reenactment of drinking.

When a Polish male learns he is going to be a father, he experiences a little shock but when he overcomes it, he is the best father and husband in the world! The craze for flu vaccines has been affectingl Poland for about 15 years now. Get a flu shot, get a flu shot!

There is rivalry and animosities between regular police and municipal police in Poland.

Poles celebrate namedays as often (or even more) as birthdays:

Most Polish males are too sensitive to bear the sight of female giving birth. Poles know basic words in most languages.

Here, German:

Don`t be so selfish. Other guys also need some attention.

Besides, is charlie`s reasoning too logical for you?

Another success of PO run authorities - Koleje Śląskie - they managed to create a communication chaos which is still ongoing - sorry no sources in English for it -

Yes! Good example. Simply speaking - chaos on railways in Silesia.

I found a link for you:

Life / Polish comedies are perfectly distorted representation of Polish culture [9]

Care to explain? I don't get it.

2000 - 55 = 1945. Simple. :):):)

If that is really true, then who is responsible for messing up their heads? Not the Germans, so it must be old geezers like you... ;)

Yes, you got me now! I start every lesson with reminding my students of German occupation!!! With slides and documentaries!! :):):):):) Then my students become film directors and actors and recreate their nightmares in sitcoms!!

Life / Is Poland a poor country? [578]

Oh please, people need to stop blaming PiS for Poland's problems. They were only in power for 2 years, and they did some good things, such as introduce the "becikowe",

Sorry, actually, PiS was against becikowe. It was passed by their coalition party allied with the opposition.

Watch at 5:30 and much earlier about other PiS lies: youtu.be/TQWsQVUhYc4

History / Ukrainian-occupied Eastern Poland [135]

But my position as a fairly patriotic Pole is that I am quite happy for Lvov to remain Ukrainian, I hope the Ukrainians take care of it and that Ukrainian culture and language continues to flourish within it.

Amen. History doesn`t repeat itself.

Even if Russians take over Eastern Ukraine with Kiev and all those russified Ukrainians living there, Western Ukraine has still a chance for keeping independence, with Lvov as their capital. But Poland needs to help them.

News / Wigilia for homeless & needy [18]

I figured if all those people came out on Christmas Eve to stand in line for free food instead of spending it with the family around the supper table - then they are needy indeed.

They haven`t got family - they are lonely that is why they come.

Firstly it is self promotion as it is known as ' Wigilia Jan Kościuszko'

Then it is marketing, indeed.
But better such marketing than nothing, right?

Life / Polish comedies are perfectly distorted representation of Polish culture [9]

Not half a century, but almost 70 years.

No, I didn`t make a mistake. It was exactly 55 years. :)

who is responsible that the young Polish generation is still haunted by WW2? School? Parents? Politicians?

Those nasty historians who pry and sniff everywhere and then publish what they found? :)? And rock groups who still make songs about war!

So tell me, who is responsible that the young Polish generation is still haunted by WW2?

Hey, I was thinking hard and came to a conclusion: Germans are responsible!!!! If they hadn`t started war during WW2, Poles wouldn`t be haunted today!! It is so simple, now wonder nobody knew the right answer!!!

Especially that most Germans supported Hitler and still cherish the grand memory of Third Reich! See at 13:55 how Hauptman Wassermann from the German police introduces himself to Polish officers:

So, no wonder that when a Polish officer comes drunk to the station and unexpectedly starts singing in German, he receives a rather rough treatment:

BTW, my fav episode, worth seeing whole. :):):):)

History / Ukrainian-occupied Eastern Poland [135]

Sure that Lwów should belong to Poland.

But it hasn`t, for over half a century.

It is high time you shouted: Long live once Polish, today Ukrainian Lvov!

but the state should not sponsor this education at least

If it is for the good of the nation, then it should.

preferably it shouldn't take place on school premises

If somewhere else, naughty students won`t come to class. :):):)

the state should be confessionally neutral Charlie - besides it costs us money 1.3 billion PLN a year

Do you count it as Tusk`s another failure that he didn`t cut the RC Church off this state financing/sponsoring?

News / Failures of Poland and Tusk`s government [191]

the only thing I can say is wrong in Poland regarding the church is teaching religion lessons in public schools

You see? Such people like you voted Palikot in order to get rid of religion classes in schools.

News / Failures of Poland and Tusk`s government [191]

, I would be shocked and disappointed if someone like Palikot were elected into power.

Why? Quite a few people in Poland believe the church exerts too much influence on the country`s life and they would like to do sth about it. That is why they voted Palikot two years ago.

So, can you stop saying who should be voted in or out in Poland and leave this matter to Poles?

If they actually get into power, I suggest Poland's experiment with democracy has been a failure and it should declare itself a communist vassal state once more for its own good.

Come on, what a silly opinion. Palikot declared war with church and 10% decided to follow him. It was their right to do so. Pure democracy.

News / Failures of Poland and Tusk`s government [191]

next failure of Tusk government which was originally trumpeted as a succes - the European patent
here listed as a success of Polish presidency

Hey, don`t be so fast with trumpeting the failure. Nothing has been decided yet.
Here is a final sentence from your second quote:

the Polish government may, in the future, withdraw its support for the concept of a European unitary patent system, just as it did with the ACTA-Agreement in response to massive public demonstrations. Many scholars, economists, patent practitioners and – above all – patent attorneys, are trying to convince the Polish government that the proposed regulations which were negotiated during the Polish Presidency would have a negative impact on Polish industry and hinder the development of Poland’s economy as a whole.

Do you really need to catch at such straws??? :):):)

History / Traditional /historical punishments in Poland [6]

for a nobleman it was beheading or shooting (in the military)for lower classes it was hanging

Simply speaking, standard procedures.

The English or French methods were much more impressive.
