USA, Canada / REFUSED A HOLIDAY VISA TO THE U.S CAUSE IM POLISH [323]

this is not just some kind of game.

I know that this is a hot topic. Fact is though that corporations like Delmonte, Wal-Mart, Swift, Tyson Foods and others were (actively) hiring illegal immigrants, and many companies did it (and still do it) because these people work for wages way below the minimum. It's about greed, plain and simple. Whether the number of illegal immigrants has dropped recently or if it is really true that Mexicans are flooding back home, that we can discuss of course.

USA, Canada / REFUSED A HOLIDAY VISA TO THE U.S CAUSE IM POLISH [323]

we are talking about "Illegal" immigration, not seasonal workers who are here "legally".

Well, then the crackdown on Delmonte (just one of many examples) didn't happen, right? I wasn't talking about legal seasonal workers, smartass... ;)

USA, Canada / REFUSED A HOLIDAY VISA TO THE U.S CAUSE IM POLISH [323]

Immigration is a very serious matter in the US

Sure ... that's why thousands of illegal immigrants can cross the border from Mexico each month and are welcomed with open arms by some greedy corporations which need and hire cheap labour way below the minimum wage. Cracking down on these companies seems to be off limits in certain states, though. Immigration is only taken serious by the Department of Homeland Security if you go the official way.

News / Poland - Third World Country?? [300]

There is no East / West division of Europe since the Iron Curtain collapsed.

That's wishful thinking. The division might not be physical, but it's in the heads of the people.

History / Ukrainians working in Poland in the 90s [34]

The belief in Poland of poor little Poland and poor Poles is created by Germans.

Typical Pole. In your words: I'm sure you enjoy the compliment.

Law / Prawo autorskie - copyright / trademark of a business name in Poland [18]

It all depends on the definition of "huge financial" investment

Fees add up if you want to register in - say - 100 countries or more, you definitely need costly legal advice to set everything up, there a renewal fees, and so on and so forth. We are not talking about five grand; you are often looking at 5 or 6 figures ( or even more).

You are of course right with the catch 22 situation. Larger corporations or well-funded startups wouldn't hesitate, but as I said before: for smaller companies the whole thing might be too expensive.

Law / Prawo autorskie - copyright / trademark of a business name in Poland [18]

If the business is successful

Problem is, you don't know beforehand... :)

A registered trademark can be a huge financial investment if it's worldwide. Would you be willing to shell out some serious cash without knowing whether your business will be successful or not? I wouldn't - at least not during the start-up period. Of course, if we're only talking Poland here, then a TM might be an option. Don't know the costs though.

Law / Prawo autorskie - copyright / trademark of a business name in Poland [18]

You might want to look into Trademark law instead.

A trademark or a registered trademark can be extremely expensive - especially if you want worldwide protection. Not worth it, IMHO. Even a simple copyright might not help you, because the interpretation of copyright law varies from country to country.

USA, Canada / Do you speak English? Have you lived in America? New LOVE/HATE list......... [144]

real opinions from experienced people

I am Australian and have lived in the USA probably longer than you are walking the earth. That's still not enough in your eyes to give you a "real opinion" (what the heck is that supposed to be anyway)? You're a bit confused, are you? ;)

'nough said - my last post in this BS thread.

USA, Canada / What do the Poles hate and love about the U.S.? [170]

This differs from anywhere else in what way?

As a corporation I can finally buy my very own politician without telling anyone how much I paid. Long live corporate personhood... ;)

Love / Do you think that Polish should stick to Polish? [128]

that has always been told I should find a nice Polish man

Pity that they didn't tell you to 'find a nice man' instead. If your heart tells you that a particular guy is the one, then go for it. Nationality doesn't matter; all that counts is that you are happy.

Work / Poland is headhunting seriously in IT, Finance and HR. [41]

all I put there is photos from google

The way how this worm/trojan attacks blogs is to add links which lead to malicious web sites. Maybe one of your photos resides on an infected site?

... pretty much says it all.

You don't pay much attention to what other people say, do you? Read my answer to gleite again: the worm/trojan is known to be spread through blogs, too!

Genealogy / I'm trying to find my old friends who used @poczta.onet.pl email [22]

Oh, you're right - sorry, I misread. Thanks for pointing that out. A "real" address for me is one that doesn't come from gmail or similar free services. With the latter there's always a good chance that some sysop is blocking their whole domain instead of one sender or a certain range of IP's.
