News / The shame of Duda making late night visits to Kaczyński [79]

Is that clear enough?

I reckon some people are just made to pointlessly pound the pavement and rant and chant futile, meaningless slogans. If that's ypur thing, go for it. There's no law agaisnt it!

treated in a special way?

But they aren't. Teachers, factory, workers, office workers, road-builders, carpenters, plumbers, civil servants and many more -- all except emergency workers and osme of the above in an emergency -- are off on Sunday. That day in Polish tradition has a special aura of time-honoured sanctity* about it -- Holy Mass, Sunday dinner, visiting relatives, family strolls in the park, outings, etc. are far healthier alternatives mentally and physically than spending hours in an artifically illuminated, chemically air-freshened commercial environment amid aisles upon aisles of often useless junk and clutter. And there are also the savings involved -- taking kids to a commercial emporium where their eyes see and want many things they shouldn't have (unhealthy snacks, junky toys) and/or parents cannot afford is none too advisable.

*time-honoured sanctity: this is a concept that one's pet dog or cat (as well as some de-spritualised PF-ers) would be incapable of fathoming.

the minority who voted

Know of any other party in Poland or elsewhere that won a majority vote?
Anyway, that's not important. The main thing is that PO got voted out of office and the post-commie scum landed in the gutter, where they belong!

All we are saying is: GIVE PiS A CHANCE!.

middle of the nigh

You forgot Tusk conspiring in the middle of the night with Katyń-deniers and martial-law backers like Kwaśniewski and others with things on their conscience in the nocturnal coup of June 1992.

We now know why you read Gazeta Wybiórcza. That's where you get your selective memory from.

mountain rescuers

Everyone knows there are emergency workers, travellers, etc. but food can be picked up at most petrol stations. Besides emergency types know where teóehy can get food 24/7. It's a question of a day off for thosuands of retail chain workers. A Tuesday or Friday simply lacks the festive family-centred aura of a time-honoured Sunday, the Lord's day and a day of rest.

Mention them

Do we really know? The essence of business, politics and diplomacy is never out in the open. My impression is that Poland is a net beneficiary of the EU, however the foreign concerns that have exploited Poland have extracted from Poland much more cash for themselves than what Poland gets from the EU. Whaddya think?

Could you clarify

If you were a Pole you'd have immediately caught on. This is common knowledge. Ask about. There were TV programmes about this a few years back so probably it's a rarity or no longer the case after "S" got after them. But it does reflect the neo-colonial mentality of foreign chain owners and how they treat their cheap Polish semi-slave labour.

News / Poland's democracy defenders in Brussels turned out to be EU employees. [62]

democracy in Poland is in danger

A taxi driver today told me: The KOD people are afraid of two things: law and justice. That makes sense, but it applies mainly to the KOD leadership, the wheeler-dealer shakers and mover and their media toadies (Michnik & Co.) who are whipping up all the frenzy. The poor OAPs, school teachers and small shopkeepers lower-case is always shedding crocodile tears over are simply useful idiots, those who've allowed themselves to be deluded that they're somehow marching for democracy. Its the in-the-know KOD leadership, the post-nomenklatura types, PO losers, leader wannabes (Petru) and others who undeservedly have enjoyed the main benefits of the roundtable arrangement that know what the score is and it's spelt: T.R.O.U.G.H.!

less work

Have you ever worn a Pampers liek supermarket cashiers do because your boss didn't let you take a loo break? Did your boss ever force you to work on Sunday instead of having the day off to go to church and spend time with the family?

shut the shops on Sundays

It's about time! That was the case in many countries before the greed mentality took over. Everybody, even the godless, need a Sunday off. Even if they don't attend a chruch service they can at least sit down to Sunday dinner and spend time with the family. Of course, there are those (on PF as well?) who spend half of Sunday nursing a hangover before groggily crawling out of bed and getting started on the next booze-up.

government that promised no tax increases

You mean the Tusk govt that promsied no tax rises and then increased VAT to 23%. After then PM Tusk said nobody pays radio-TV fees, many people stopped paying. Later they received notices that they owed 1,500 zł or more.

At present, the monthly radio fee is 7zł (50 gr more than in 2015) and the TV fee is 22.70zł (1.20zł more than last year).

News / EU debate on Poland [23]

Merged: PM Szydło holds her ground in Strasbourg

Addressing the European Palriament, PM Beata Szydło in a calm but resolute voice refuted the accusations against her government and described the measures as the fulfillment of her party's campaign pledges to voters. "We want the EU to understand that Poland, as a sovereign state, has the right to make internal decisions that serve the people," she explained. The prime minister reiterated Poland's commitment to the EU but added the 28-country bloc had far more important problems than Polish politics to deal with to mention only the refugee crisis.

Far from an inquisition with Poland in the hot seat, the session turned into a spirited debate. Speakers representing the Polish anti-government Civic Platform party did criticize PiS' behavior, but many European Parliamentarians from different countries supported Szydło's position. Quite a few attacked the EU for meddling in Poland's' internal affairs and pointed out some of the bloc's other failures and shortcomings.

Solidarność demonstrations

Not all demos are equally relevant and valuable. "S" was struggling against the red regime, but the regime held its own demos against real or imagined Zionists in 1968, and Adolf's torchlight marches were also well known. Persuading people that by chanting, ranting and waving placards they are somehow defending democracy is the heigth of idiocy. The only achievemetn of these sorry spectacles is depriving people of their day off and damaging Poland's international reputation.

to obtain his orders

Never heard of email or phone? Even if Kaczyński (as you probably claim) isn't into such hi-tech gadgetry, he has a staff to assist him. It was probably a friendly visit.

accurate and superbly honest record

Neither accurate nor honest, in fact there were probably "falsies" (fałszywki) planted to incriminate some innocent people. Morever, Kiszczak oversaw the deliberate destruction of many classified documents at the papermill in Konstancin when the regime's collapse became obvious. So it was a mess. But within a year of two of intensive effort most of the chaff could have been eliminated and a majority of files could have been properly vetted. Sweeping it all under the rug has resulted in this same dead horse being flogged a quarter of a century on and probably in decades to come. What is the cost of that in terms of time, idle debate, newsprint, money, human effort and nervous tension all of which could have been channelled into more constructive pursuits.

Kaczyński

I realise nothing positive about Kaczyński will ever cross your lips (biased, one-track individuals are incapable of that!), but did you know that in 1992 Kaczyński's Centre Accord (PC) was the only party with no SB collaborators in their ranks.

News / Is Jarosław Kaczyński the new Lech Wałęsa? [74]

Kaczyński really started to fall out with him.

Yes, only after Wałęsa overturned the Olszewski govt. It was the Kaczyński Bros that created the Wałęsa presidency. After he turned out to be two-faced sh*t concerend only about his personal reputation who tried to nip de-communisation in the bud did they see the light.

Kaczyński wasn't loyal

Somehow no-one saw Kaczyński amongst the nocturnal conspriators of 1992, but Tusk, Kwaśniewski, Pawlak and Wałęsa were there.

Kurski is now boss of TVP

So Kaczyński is apparently not as toxic and vengeful as the losers and trough defenders make him out to be.
Kaczyński was loyal to Olszewski down to the end. If the latter's demise indirectly benefited Kaczyński, such is the stuff of politics. Irony and apparent incongruity are part and parcel of the game.

For exmaple, on the surface of things ex-commies and pro-banking interests are about as strange bedfellows as one can imagine. But when a trough is involved they can readily join forces as they haev done in KOD.

BTW why is no Delph or other trough defender attacking turncoat Niesiołowski? His disloyalty also comes out in the article you cited.

trash Lech Wałęsa

Probably because Wałęsa made the biggest mistake of hsi career in 1992 when he overturned the government of Jan Olszewski and put paid to any meaningful attempt at de-communisation. His motivation was stricly personal -- to quash the Bolek connection. As a result ex-commies became Poland's "haves" and many of their Solidarity opponents the "have-nots". Ex-commies returned to power and even captured the presidency. That could not have occurred if a 10-year ban on public office had been imposed on senior members of the Soviet-backed regime such as Miller, Kwaśiwski, Czarzasty and others.

PiS's brief spell in office.

Within the context of history 12 years is but a speck, but in the political world that means at least three-term PiS rule. Hopefully more! That should be enough time to renovate the country, spread the frutis fo transformation and neutrlaise the wreckers or keep them in check.

behaveor go as soon as possible.

No, only you and a handful of your disgruntled cronies want that. Most ordinary Poles are sick of seeing KOD demos occupying half the evening news and fortunately the street nonsense is fizzling out. If the protesters want things to improve, let them get down to work and put their nose to the grindstone. Nothign is produced or developed and Poland will not imrpove becuase of demonstratros ranting, chanting and pounding the pavement. Initially some got their jollies that way, others actually thought they were somehow defending democracy, but the novetly was bound to wear off.
