Travel / My (short) Poland experiences - bad luck? [142]

cart before the horse obviously.. you need rails before those trains can run.. they weren't going to put them on the old tracks, were they? hmm

(£ódź Fabryczna railway station was to demolish and go undergound).

no kidding? i was just looking at that on googlemapsPL and it wasn't up to date then...

There was a plan to built a modern conference hall but the idea was given up because of its costs (that's why Camerimage has moved to another city)

still may happen, no?

It was few years ago when the govern of the city claimed that whithin 2 or 3 years the journey time from Lodz to Warsaw would last less than 30 min.
Corruption, political wars, street pathology

do you have any idea what kind of undertaking that is? if everything was in place, it would take at least that long to construct the line.. just buying up the land can take that many years... hell, it took 30 years or more to build the metro in W-WA.. my mom designed it when i was teeny-tiny.

Welcome to £ódź!

it's not that bad.

bollox. there is no machismo in polish culture.

lol. are you sure?

History / When will you Poles give back German land and the cities which you robbed? [557]

You are playing dumb now, aren't you? ;)

Just read some more and inform yourself....you have alot of catching up to do.

who is playing dumb and who needs to catch up? see below bud.

/wiki/Silesian_language

you must not have read your own link; thanks for proving i am right once again:

Silesian became "polish" by force after 1945...that means the language and the land. It was not polish before, neither the language nor the land. It's called "polonization"!

the language got polonized? i thought it was surpressed? which is it? can't really be both.

You are the product of this brainwashing.

not at all.. just because germans took it from PL (or slavs) for a few centuries, doesn't make it german. or is it "once german, always german"? like the russkies and the chinese?

History / When will you Poles give back German land and the cities which you robbed? [557]

Since Million of real Silesians left and where substituted by eastern Poles and 50 years of skewed commie education I'm pleasantly surprised some still do remember....

ok delph... so now because poles live there, the silesian language all of a sudden changed to polish dialect? niiice. lol it's that last statement of mine that got you worried, isn't it? ;) :D

You really seem to have a hard time accepting Silesians and Silesians past as what they were, why is that???

not at all.. i see it for what it is. not some wishful thinking that it's more german then anything.. :)

But seriously in Warsaw you have plenty of nice places, the same as it goes for Cracow.

lodz does too.. you're in denial.. and i know how it is when you're young and see greener grasses everywhere but your own backyard.. you'll find out they just aren't.. katowice certainly does not have greener grass.

to where?

englandia.. have you been sleeping? find his "after 5 years.. " thread.

why would I go there?

that's what he said afterwords.

I understand if they feel different to the "ordinary" peasant Poles from further East....

they don't feel different at all.. their language is not german.. very much PLish dialect, like i said.. can you understand anything they said? click that silesia radio link.. can you understand any of the writing?

.Poles re-discover their german heritage..so does Silesia! :)

the funny thing is that now you're in denial.. the truth is:

My greatparents spoke a silesian german dialect too...it died out with them sadly! :(

that you're probably actually more polish then german.. sorry bud.. i know this news has to be hard for you to take.. but keep hanging around here, brother kraut, we'll change you into bigos yet. ;) :D :D

Can ex-Silesians vote too??? Heh:)

the un-funny thing is that is exactly how it went down originally so silesia was given to PL. starting world wars, cheating etc. just isn't working out for you guys. :)

But....what language would you speak in Silesia if you managed to make it independent?

french?

Its strange in Poland and no one smile to strangers. It's not rudeness.

right but it sure is perceived as such

I think that something had to annoyed you at the very begining of your trip and after you just have negative attidute.

that's what i am thinking too but he doesn't buy it.

Life / How can Polish immigrants complain about other immigrants? [65]

Hard to complain about Nigerians in PL

Poles can find a way. ;) :D

Huh? I am not quite getting your meaning...

can live with the jews but can also slam them when it's convenient.

I don't agree with specifically targeting Poles

Singling out Poles doesn't bother me.

this is why you got the "huh?"

I don't think I would ever go back.

that's rather sad.. you needed better "guides" from what it sounds like.. next time you do consider going back, check back in and ask for help.. folks here won't steer you wrong.. also, there are quite a few threads asking for guidance for tourists here already.

It's hard to understand Polish people if you're not Polish, we have a different mentality, being loud on the street yelling or talking loud means being trashy, you don't stop or bother someone you don't know, or stare at them.

yes but staring is rather common, like he said.

But people should smile more, it's kinda depressing looking at that, some have a look like they've just about had it with life and wanna commit suicide, their depression can make you depressed.

i agree on the smiling thing but as others have said, it is not a polish thing either.. i have that issue still and i have lived in the states for quite a long time.. people still ask me why i am pissed off.. lol.. and i hardly ever am.

Understandable, as I said, Poland is good for long visits/stays/living, not so much for short visits. It's just not that kind of place.

nothing wrong with staying for short visits but one may want to read up on PL and the local customs so one isn't all surprised..

always want more.

is there something wrong with that?

USA, Canada / PolAms -- do you regard yourselves only as 'white Americans'? [187]

Why would you consider yourself Polish, when these ethnicities have their own countries today?

because maybe "they" are polish and not one of those? how about that?

You're the idiot if you can't work out that someone who came from Russia/Prussia/Austra-Hungary didn't come from Poland, but rather one of those three countries. They might have been Polish, but they certainly didn't come from Poland unless they were born before the partitions!

it was occupied PL, you dolt

The chances of you being ethnically 100% Polish isn't very likely

wtf would a limey know about Polish ancestry.. it's rather laughable how you are senselessly arguing these points when you aren't even from PL..

Can you trace your lineage right back to the founding of the Piast dynasty? No?

that's just stupid.. nobody can trace their lineage that far even if we tried.. are you that thick, really?

I didnt give up, i am working my arse off :)

sure, glad to see ya, hon. :)

Life / How can Polish immigrants complain about other immigrants? [65]

Actually they are the least likely to work at all.

aye aye arrr. :)

Foreigners in poland complain more IMO.

about PL tho

I don't agree with specifically targeting Poles on the issue as well,

huh? that's not what you say up top.. hmm.. *scratches head*

Quiet, clean, safe, nice neighbours, both unimposing and helpful in case.

ding, ding.. anti-semitism can wait if it suits one. :)

...it's not looking like it.

actually you just proved that it is.. i didn't say i didn't agree because i do but i asked you about the positives and you couldn't really come up with anything.. so, your outlook may be something you ought to look into.

£odz/Pabianice, Wrocław, Krakow

pretty friendly places.. hmm

Maybe its Teffle's culture, he comes from a country were people will go out of their way to be friendly,

even more so.. if he's from "happy" culture then one would presume he'd look for "happy" things yet he all he did was concentrated on the bad stuff. just my observation.

Try to talk to some Brits about the UK, or French about France, or Italians about Italy... shall I go on?

not really comparable.. all those you mentioned are more realistic about their countries then most poles about poland.
