USA, Canada / Emigrate from the USA - the sequence of events [207]

how does Obama dig the country out of 8 years of Bush. Why do so many people think he is able to snap his fingers and fix everything. He has constant opposition for absolutely everything he does- wether it will help the country or not. they do it for spite.

How can a man, who has proven himself to be a complete utter fecking idiot, be able to manage a country if an intelligent, educated man, such as Obama- is having a hard time doing it.

The problems in the states are something that cannot be fixed in four years.

this is actually quite cute. And interesting. And those who don't want to believe never will, just hope they are not in the 47%.

yes, but this means you need to be smart and not put yourself into questionable situations.

I think they should keep him in the media- he will simply explode with all the stupid garbage he says....he has already discredited 47%...he really only has 4% more to insult....let him do it.

I was absolutely raised in a free world. I don't have a problem paying taxes if they go towards things that I use and need. And both countries that I have worked and paid taxes in have provided me with everything I need.

(socialist thinking = a load of garbage to me).

just as I predicted. Didn't take long.

4 eigner: while not having a health insurance, punishes you and no one else

That logic is flawed. Just think of contageous diseases for example, or a driver who passes out because - due to a lack of health insurance - a medical condition wasn't treated and he crashes into someone else and kills this individual.

but this is what America is. 300,000 million people who thing that they are all number one and nobody else matters.

forced to it- what a load of garbage. having health care that is available for all people no matter what your income, having the best care available for everyone--is something that Americans don't want to be forced into??

This sounds to me like you have been brainwashed.

you are forced to pay taxes for such things as roads, bridges, parks, libraries, pools, etc,etc---what is the big deal if your taxes cover health care and then you don't have to worry.

the only reason people are saying they are being forced into something is because the drug companies and insurance companies are telling you that. Then of course- they back the opposition so the opposition is telling you that you are losing your freedom of choice. OH--of course my favourite---throw the word "socialism" in there and that gets all red blooded Americans in an uproar. "we don't need no communist telling us what to do."

I don't think Americans understand how broken their system is for the Average middle class American. If you are rich- then you are set and if you are poor- well, it seems as though that is covered too. However, if you are a family of four, with a middle income, you are screwed- and the funny thing is that the middle class makes up the majority of America.

I don't really understand the irrational fear Americans have over health care. Do you prefer paying through the nose to unregulated insurance companies? I don't get it.

and then the whole bit about Americans can decide for themselves--well they can't. Constant back and forth and lies and then the billions of dollars spent on advertising by insurance and drug companies- there is no way any body can make an informed choice- for what is the best for the country.

of course insurance and drug companies have the most to lose if health care becomes regulated- and if you dig deep you can find out where all the political funding comes from.

billions are spent on advertising trying to fool Americans. Billions.

In Canada it is illegal for drug companies to advertise so our healthcare is run differently.

ok, that is an emergency situation but what if somebody gets diagnosed with cancer and doesn't have insurance and can't afford treatment or tests? then what. who pays then? xrays, mri's, exams, follow up treatments, tests and the who bit- who pays if a person can't afford insurance?

Travel / Is there a healthy expats scene in Poland? (drinks, food, golf, etc.) [143]

like I posted a few pages ago- some people like living or knowing others that are in the same situation as they are. Makes people feel less foreign. And there is nothing wrong with that. I don't do a lot of expat stuff, but the ladies come to my shop and I am cool with that. I don't go to a restaurant because it is an "expat restaurant" --we go to reputable places that serve good food.

I am an expat. --when I get citizenship I will be an immigrant- but that is questionable too because we will probably return to Canada at some point.

I speak Polish- poor grammar but I speak.
I have my own business.
I live in a gated community. We are the only mixed family- all others are Polish. Polish people want gated communities, it gives them a sense of security. We have a security guard during the day. Most people here have the rolety and security monitoring. We have neither.

We are not the type to worry about getting broken in to. We don't have the Polish paranoia -I actually feel safer here than I do in Canada.

I don't pretend to be an expert- but this is my thought. Insurance companies have too much power to say who gets care and who doesn't--and that is the issue. If health care was something like Polands private health care- where the hospitals and clinics offered packages- no middle insurance man, then, I think it would be beneficial for all.

Canada pays through taxes. Polands public is also paid through taxes. Polands private is run by the respective healthcare companies/hospitals- there is no insurance, so to speak.

Americans pay insurance companies who then pay the hospitals. Prices are hugely inflated because both the insurance and the hospitals need to make profit.

In my opinion, the gov't is going about it the wrong way. They should be regulating the insurance companies.

414$ is still a lot for a family to pay to an insurance company. what is eHealth? insurance related. I am skeptical.

and the constant dem vs rep is repulsive. it must take its toll and the average American. the constant air of negativity- who is right, who is wrong is disgusting. and then that hideous troll pig coulter calls Obama a retard. Unacceptable. this is ok in your world? or is this freedom of speech?

nobody is making valid points- they are constantly mudslinging and b*tching and whining and complaining.

no I don't live there, I live in Poland- but I would like people to understand the realities of the health care system and the actual costs in the US. The middle class get screwed. Too poor for prime insurance and too rich for subsidies.

And the middle class is the majority of America. or at least it used to be.

Osiedle Konstancja was offering a free mini cooper with purchase- I don't know if they still offer it though. You are right about Oakland park--they also started construction before the prices started to decrease and banking regulations got tighter- they will never get the asking price. There are a few osiedles that have just popped up just past Wilanow on the side of Kabaty forest- next to horse stables. Osiedle Karpiola and Osiedle Residencja Palacowy

Anyone who suggest we have a good social safety net system is uninformed. We have a child that qualifies for assistance. Budget cuts by the state and the fact that we are living above the poverty line means no help. I am not suggesting imminent disaster. But, those in first class are too far above the water line to notice that the water is rising. Pax Americana is waning.

thank you for writing this. some still don't get it.

They do Pip. But it's not called immigration. It's called intracompany transfer... Or a career development. And those often come back.

then they haven't immigrated. They are considered to be Polish expats. Much like the expats that live here.

look who is immigrating. poorly educated workers looking to make more more to either send back home or come back home to rub it in their neighbours faces.

educated Poles do not immigrate, generally speaking. some do but most dont

I think it varies from year to year. A few years ago I think it was up to 60% but I think it has dropped since then. There are a lot of foreigners there now.

I disagree. They offer the American curriculum. Which, personally, I don't think is the best. My kids go to a private school with more Polish curriculum- the maths my 13 year old is learning is quite shocking to me. I don't remember ever learning what she is doing now. Same with many of the other subjects. History is primarily Polish and European so I never really learned it- I learned Canadian and North American history with a touch of World.

My daughters best friend moved to the American school. She was bumped up a grade because of her previous education.

I do think the American school is great for things like community and making people feel welcome. The have great sports facilities and really do a lot to involve all nationalities. I think the expats use it well where the Poles use it as bragging rights.

If we are ever to switch schools they will go to the British school. But at this moment we are happy because there is equal Polish and English subjects being taught.

I would never send my kids to the American school. The amount of money that flows through there is staggering. They have claimed charity status so they don't pay taxes. They also get grants. This is why their facilities are top notch. I have a friend who used to work in the accounting department there- she pulled her kids out after seeing what went on with the books.

the fees are close to 60,000 pln per year and there is no Polish aspect of the curriculum which is funny because more than half are Poles.

Life / Is Poland a poor country? [578]

pip: Poland is not a poor country- but it has many poor people according to western standards.
so, it's poor.

no it is not. not having two bathrooms, two cars and a big tv does not make you poor.

it has poor, but it is not poor.
