Travel / Is it safe to travel to Poland? [194]

pointing them out would be much more useful HERE than arguing about statistics.

nobody's arguing, we are having a nice chat and a good laugh. What's wrong with that?

in some ignorant people's minds it is BB. You can see it very well on this forum, I mean the ignorance.

Another stupid thread "Why do Poles choose to die instead of going back home" - no comments on that one....

Life / Winter in Poland? [160]

That was a joke. I forgot smiley ;).

I see.
Have you tried herbata z prądem yet?

You are totally right :)

Yeah, that's what I thought, it's somehow logic. Nothing is more precious than life!

Yeah it is a sin but it doesn't count if you commit bigger sins with it.

what do you mean?

Alcohol is inevitable in that circumstances. It is not a sin as you have to protect your health :)

I guess refusing to drink alcohol in order to save yourself from freezing would be even more haram, wouldn't it?

;)

Do you now understand why our ancestors don't prefer passing to the north of Danube :)

because alcohol is haram? ;)

If you drink alcohol before going outside when it's very cold it's like if
you put a time bomb in your body.

I'm going out to do some Xmas shopping and then I will go to Rynek and have some of this delicious mulled wine :)
Now, if Torq is right I shall never come back :( if I am right (which I believe is the case, since PL women are ALWAYS right, aren't they Arien?) I will be back in an excellent, warm mood.

What is great about PL winter, is that low temperatures discourage ppl from going out but encourage them to stay in (often stay in bed). And you know what happens, when you stay all day in bed, especially when you have someone to share your bed with... ;)

What should be the scale for vodka ? Half herbata/ half vodka ;)

it depends on how cold you are.
A bit cold - a bit of vodka and a lot of herbata
cold - a big bit of vodka and a little bit less of herbata
very cold - half vodka and half herbata
freezing cold - a bit of herbata and a lot of vodka

:)

It will, believe me. Try both with vodka and with Krupnik (it's a honey liqueur).
I will have a (few) mulled wine(s) in Rynek :)

Yes PL winters are brutal. That is why you ALWAYS have to keep a bottle of vodka in your fridge and when it gets really cold, have a herbata z prądem (tea with vodka, or with Krupnik if you don't like vodka) - that will warm you up!

It is -13 in Krakow now and I'm going Christmas shopping. Hopefully, I will not freeze to death by the time I get to Galeria Krakowska.

Language / How to say Merry Christmas in Polish? [66]

well Christmas starts on 24th Dec, that's when we have Wigilia (PL Christmas dinner), however, it is a regular working day in PL.
Christmas holiday is 25&26 Dec and then back to work on the 27th Dec.

I don't think I read one positive post of yours today.

I live, vote and pay taxes here.

I find this a funny statement.
You've been living in PL for 10 years yet you complain about most things here. You sound like you are not happy or satified with your Polish life, so I guess it would be better for you to go live some where else. That's it. There's nothing xenophobic about it.

32 years in UK and no problems. Not one. 10 years here and missing mail several times a year.

you can always go back to UK and have no problems again...

They built this shop and designed it with sole intention in minds - to lure you into buying some smalec. "Cunning people they are!" - master Yoda once said.

yeah! and then all these poor, innocent foreigners are being ripped off; some big time, in ways you wouldn't expect in, say, the UK or USA...

:)

Okay, that was my own fault - not ripped off at all. I'm not even implying that it was anyone but my own fault...thought you guys might enjoy that though :)

are you sure it was YOUR own fault? you mentioned something about lack of light, ability to read PL and confusing location of the stand - I'm sure PL can be blamed as well, at least a little bit.
