The Black Madonna made out of something natural, and the artist that uses those triangular shapes in his paintings.

I will tell you about Black Madonna through a set of 4 pics I took this year.

As for the artist and triangular shapes, you must remind me which post he was in. I am really tired - came back home after 10pm.

As for the clock tower, I must give up. Sorry.

Life / Is the palace in Warsaw going to be rebuilt? [29]

Yes, now the place is called The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

The place will remain intact as it is indeed a surviving part of he Palace, so where's the problem?

The problem is that in the future the place will be called The Saxon Palace with the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Do you see the difference?

If I was a Warsavian, I would protest.

Never seen it. And I am afraid I won`t be able to track it down, so I give up.

Ha! That`s what I had written being in despair. A second later I gave myself one more chance. Why have I never seen it? I recalled everything what I know about your trips! It is probably in Rzeszów, the big city I have never visited. The building looks like a state institution but it doesn`t display those red boards with names, so it isn`t a school or local council hall.. There is a vague golden inscription above the front door. Golden is often used for banks. Now, it is enough to google Rzeszów, bank, towers.

PKO BP Bank.

Food / Need some Polish dessert recipes [47]

No, I used sweetened milk coz that`s what we had at home. Because of that, I added only one glass of sugar instead of two.

You can still buy unsweetened condensed milk milk though it is getting rare, replaced by evaporated milk.

I took a few pieces to work and found out more faults: watery and crumbling. So, nearly a complete failure. The previous one was better. Don`t try this recipe out, it is worthless. hahaha

Or..... ! Was it because I used ready made cheese? It looked like farmer`s cheese that you eat with a teaspoon. It was probably the culprit.

Well, I will check the recipe out again with cheese ground before my eyes.

History / Does Poland deserve credit for the 1989 Revolution? [87]

Does Poland deserve credit for the 1989 Revolution?

Hhmm, I always thought it was Poland who showed the path for other communist countries in 1989. The Solidarity government was already working on reforms when communist regimes in Eastern block were still trying to defend the system and block the changes.

Life / Why do gays dislike Wojciech Cejrowski, travel writer? [18]

Cejrowski hasn`t changed over years. A few weeks ago his lectures in Dublin were to be cancelled after the premises` management had learnt about his anti gay stance.

gcn.ie/polish-homophobic-comedians-show-set-to-take-place-in-dublin-tomorrow/

But as a writer of travel books, he is really outstanding. I have read two or three, worth recommending.

Huh? What cheese are you using normally to grind it?

Bars or packets of unground twaróg are in big selection.

Yes, budyń.

Well, the cheesecake is OK, but to me it is again a little failure coz it is too fluffy. It is wet and heavy but too delicate to my teeth, I need sth more al dente. I wonder if I didn`t add too much whisked egg white. I used 11 eggs for 2 kilos cheese. The recipe mentions 6 eggs per kilo.

In case you want to try it out:

Grinding twaróg - not my photos - mine are still in the camera..

Travel / Poland in photo riddles [3134]

my photo is not so old, it was taken about 6 years ago. The roof was red then too, but it is covered with snow.

Taking into consideration the pace of changes in Poland after EU access, 6 years is eternity. :)

hahaha funny, I didn`t notice that snow. :)

and university door (near the meridian line)

Both are university doors?

If some future political entity tries to persecute the church I think the population would rush to defend it..

Yes, quite possible, but let`s remember that future political entity you are talking about will be elected in national ballot. It means that most voters will remain indifferent to what happens to the Church. And those few remaining ardent defenders will not take the upper hand.

Besides, persecution is too big a word. The Church and the state will be seperated, that`s all. Like it is written in the Constitution. :):)

Food / Need some Polish dessert recipes [47]

I prefer my cheesecake heavy and wet,

A few days after our conversation I fulfilled my lust for such cheesecake. To save time, I didn`t make a biszkopt base for it. I added giant raisins which I had soaked in milk all night. I liked the result but it still wasn`t wet and heavy enough to me - I had an impression it was a little dry and sandy.

Today I made another one according to a different recipe. I used ready made cheese coz grinding it last time was drudgery. I didn`t make a base again. I didn`t add any fat like butter this time, but instead added condensed milk and pudding mix.

My wife has helped a lot. :)):

The experiment is still in the oven.

They use Catholic Church solely for their political purposes

Yes, that`s what I meant by saying: or can we blame the Church and PiS for stirring certain negative anti-religious attitudes in the society? People are not blind and see what is going on. When the elder generation passes out, today`s youngsters as adults will reject the Church and we will have second Ireland or Spain. There will be still some believers, of course, but being religious will be old fashioned. All in all, pity.

Or am I mistaken? So correct me, anybody.

USA, Canada / Any Poles in Texas! [61]

Dallas has had a bad reputation in Poland. In communist times it was associated with rampant crime which mostly went unpunished. I read it in an old book: U nas jest normalnie Dallas - we have pure Dallas here.

Life / Importance of Religion in Poland [187]

The importance of religion in Poland has been dropping under PiS very quickly. It is illustrated not only by the ,mass desertion of young people from religion and faith. It is also shown by anti-Church demostrators/protesters who have become very radical and I suppose it is not the end but things will escalate. Protesters are doing things which were impossible a few years ago. E.g., a female organ instead of a holy symbol, Rainbow Madonna, kid shoes hanging on church gates, various mockery or parodies.

Is it just a reflection of changing times in general, i.e., the secularisation of Poland in Western Style or can we blame the Church and PiS for stirring certain negative anti-religious attitudes in the society? I don`t know, research should be done into that.

News / Poland blocks any action on climate change [569]

Today Macron said to young protesters to go to protest in Poland coz he has been unable to persuade the Polish government to support improvements. He added that the new pro-climate laws are blocked by one country - Poland.

Life / Latest urban art in Łódz - what do you see? [20]

I like murals when they are on blocks from communist times which are all the same and boring to death. But when I see them on tenement houses which once used to be elegant, I suspect they were painted to cover the lack of renovation. And I am usually right - the house looks drab, almost crumbling, and the mural is to divert people`s attention from the fact.

Ok, continuing with clocks, where can this tower be found:

It is the Town Hall in Torun. Yours is an old photo coz today the roof is red. A nice traveller`s blog shows it together with other places in the city

Funny I don`t remember the clock but I know this tenement house with fresco

I looked through my Warsaw Old Town photos and I was right - I never took the pic of the clock but of the plaque which is below it - it provides info on the restoration of the destroyed Old Town after WW2. With a communist message.

Btw, there are more clocks on Warsaw houses in the Old Town . Strange. Why have they been so obsessed with time? :)

I'll have to make them harder :)

If you want to make it harder, don`t post anything about Warsaw. As a fav city in Poland, I know a lot about it and have thousands of photos from our multiple family and school trips.

Or,. it`s better to revive that rule we set up a few months ago - I will abstain from guessing for a few hours, allowing others to take their chances.

Sorry I spoilt it this time. :):)
