USA, Canada / Why are Polish restaurants not successful in the USA? [698]

To me Polish food is either really tasty or really nasty, nothing in between.

dont you ever watch the food network and watch them guys go from country to country
eating bugs and whatever else creepy crawlies and guts on tv??

Love / Hopeful to date Polish woman [39]

I think that it would be a mistake to just limit yourself to Polish women and miss out on meeting someone great.

I agree with this part,, at 50 years of age I think you should just enjoy yourself and whatever
happens so be it..

if you are trying for a certain type , you are going to end up waiting and miss out on quality
time.. there are plenty of nice women you age or close to it who would be family oriented
and would like to meet a nice fella.

so keep your options open to others.

Life / Homosexuality in Polish Culture [231]

if they are good parents they dont let any of their children see any of this, yeah, its a choice
to put the tv on to a violence, and if you swear in front of them they will say it too, same with
kissing, they see two older males kissing or females they will think its ok to kiss their best friend
on the lips and its not ok, people are funny about these things, adults just need to practice more
privacy, I think there is a time and place... its much different for a young child to see his parents
peck on the cheek or lips then it is for a young boy to see two men slobbering in public or even
two women.. its a huge difference. I think all adults need to keep it to a certain degree so the kids
can be feking kids and not worry about all this sex bullshyt.. thats what I think.

off to work. sorry if I am not on topic.. or if I am good, I jumped in the middle either way
thats my opinion..

Love / The constant unfortunes of Polki - Polish women [16]

others were fired and got to get back to Poland, one worked full season on island without being paid, one has a child by a Pole who left her for a younger one,one is childless despite advanced age,and all of them complain it seems nothing goes right in the world of Polki I need to put some order.

There are people like that here too..

bottom line is that you cant control things you didnt do.

all of them need to get their shyt in one sock and grow up.

I know sometimes things happen, its supposed to make you stronger and learn from it

so tell them to learn from it and get their shyt together.

USA, Canada / Polish-Americans as seen in the false mirror. Type A and Type B. [141]

Who pushes you out? ... they must be mad :D .. seriously crazy :) ...

ok, my exaggerated and exasperated <~ WHEW Big words for me ;) feelings..

but anyone before voting should stay atleast one unbroken reign of a government to understand the country's requirements... right? :)

I agree, I think there should be knowledge of current affairs and I am sure that those who
recently left, still hold citizenship and want to be a part of it should.. Maybe their votes would
make a difference in who is voted in.

I also feel those who are still citizens of Poland who vote here should as well... thats the
Privliges set aside for those who applied for them.

there is still people who are jealous. I doubt it will get any better anytime soon.

but Lodz.. I know you welcome me there.. I welcome you here.. thats how it should be.

USA, Canada / Polish-Americans as seen in the false mirror. Type A and Type B. [141]

Patrycja, I sympathize with you regarding your Grandma. I have already lost both of my parents so I know what it means.

SO have I.. so all this to me makes me angry, I cant ask them anymore, I cant ask, I have to fight
now.. fight people who push me out..

I think the renouncing citizenship and restoring it that you mention are about the US citizenship.

yeah, probably, but it still does say you can have more then one citizenship.

USA, Canada / Polish-Americans as seen in the false mirror. Type A and Type B. [141]

What does she now about today's Poland?

I would ask but I am sure she is rollin over in her grave right now. RIP Grandma :(

yeah I belong to the type D= Disgusted.

Can you see the double standard here? U.S. naturalized citizen has to renounce his/her previous citizenship.

American law permits multiple citizenship, so a citizen of the United States can be a citizen of another country at the same time. Citizenship can be renounced by citizens,[3] and it can also be restored.[4]

no I dont see it, the first paragraph says that a person can hold dual citizenship, you can
renounce it, but it can be restored..

USA, Canada / Polish-Americans as seen in the false mirror. Type A and Type B. [141]

Now, you can see the difference between living THERE and living HERE, OK?

theres Americans who left and now are citizens and still hold citizenship for the US but we dont
categorized them into a type A or Type B and tell them they cant vote when it comes to our
political system.. sounds like a bunch of bullcrap to me.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_citizen

just sounds like those who are so uppity about it are jealous of people in North America
I wouldnt say that about everyone in Poland cause I know theres only a few who have
issues with it.

I've been to the US 3 times. Do I qualify as an American?

my grandmother never became Naturalized so what would she be considered to Poland if she
wasnt living in Poland but yet still held citizenship and lived in America.

and would she not be allowed to vote/have any say in such affairs if she doesnt live there?

USA, Canada / Polish-Americans as seen in the false mirror. Type A and Type B. [141]

I'd welcome thoughts on the level of Polams' understanding of Poland's matters. Thank you.

Why is that important for you if the Polams are pretty much

Whatever, type (A) or (B), many PolAms (I'd say, most of them) live in their own world completely torn off the Poland's reality.

This, however, gives them about the same understanding as a Poland's Pole could gather on internal American affairs...

you have already formed your opinion.. why ask the same questions over and over.

you want to know my opinion...

I will learn more from someone who is willing to give me a chance. tell me that every Polish
person is active in Political affairs, tell me they can give me answers on all of Polands affairs
and tell me about every policy there is to know...

not everyone has interest in politics, so why would someone make a statement about the
US polonia who from my views are only trying to help..

I appreciate that they might not be helping, and wouldnt have total acess to govt, Unless this
is what they have studied and are part of a political circle..

And just because there are Jealous political fruitcakes from the UK cutting grass in their new
backyard, hey good for you, you moved from point A to Point B

American Polonia Was there during the war, from my understanding of it was fighting to get this
govt to help.. because people were dying, our relatives.. my grandparents belonged to it.

Even though they left for a better life, they didnt say, oh well, you know what, hitler is going
to kill a few of our relatives off, so yeah, lets move way before that happens so we dont get
obliterated too.

no one predicted it except nostradamus and thats all it was, even now, no one can predict
the future of either country.. its uncertain , I was told my father and mother survived a recession
in the 1930s, do you think that I would have thought in 2009 that I would survive one as well?

I think the backwards thinking /assumptions that people dont want to care or dont care is
retarded.. I openly admit I dont know every current affair going on in Poland, does every Polish
or currently applying to be Polish citizen formerly british know everything about the United states?

show me one person who can recite them all.

Plus, I dont get all the Concentrated focus on American Polonia, when there are Canadian
Polonia, Austrailian Polonia, United kingdom Polonia.. etc etc

Love / In Polish relationships who is the boss? [46]

see so many polish guys looking not very happy when they are with their lady

you know, with most guys, they dont always like to do what their GF wants to do, but they do it
to avoid getting into arguments.

women instinctively know that.

its much worse if they just walk around with a frown, looking all sad, when you get into a relationship
dont base it on the surface and what you see, you actually need to get to know the person and talk
cause otherwise your going to walk around looking like someone stole your left shoe.

Love / I need advice: divorce and my rights as a father in Poland [165]

That is exactly the wrong advice.

That is why I get along with my oldest daughters father and we are still friends, he comes over
and sits down and converses over a beer with my husband now, there is not one shred of hate
between us, we shared advice, and we learned and grew into parents living seperate lives.

no one is born with a manuel or booklet, especially all the stupid ones you read. its a learning
process with each other. everyones relationships will be different, yes some things are similar
in some ways, but its those mistakes you learn from.

you have forgotten how to love Zimmy, or maybe you have been scared of it since your last
bad breakup.

you dont like to apply feelings into anything. I pity your GF. she deserves better.

anyway, as usual your stealing the show again , and its not about you so get off the feminism kick
for a change.

Patrcias words has had an impact on me today.

I am glad, because there shouldnt be hate thrown at each other when its about all of you
not the two of you.

its understandable there will be frustrations and you will get thru them, just keep a clear mindset
on your goals, what you and her agree on.
I hope you reconcile, I dont know the whole story, falling out of love, or losing feelings
happens, but she needs to understand what happened and why,

what made this happen, for both your sakes, if its unrepairable, then do your best to keep
a calm environment.

I really hope things work out, either way, I know you can get thru this.

Love / I need advice: divorce and my rights as a father in Poland [165]

Many men in the states have woken up to this and the marriage rate in the past 3 decades has been cut in half. That's why the frequently asked question by women is, "where are all the good men?"

oh shut up !!

I know moving to Poland will make me very weak especially with no language too, I really want to make things work

go with your gut feeling, if you feel it will put you in a position that will cause her to have more
advantage and not work with you then stay in the UK.

but dont deny her daughter either, be fair, teach her your wife that its ok to have a seperate relationship
and parent your child. you dont have to be around all your family, thats not independence and she
cant get that if she runs home to her family. she needs to stick it out and both you and her need
to work this out like adults.. dont listen to everything zimmy says , I can see his advice taking you
into a direction where it will wind up a huge fight between you two and thats extremely unhealthy for
a child to see , especially at her tender age..

what she needs to see is her daddy and mommy getting along, even though they live in seperate
homes and seperate lives.. and later on when everything is calm and settled, maybe she can
take her to poland to see grandma and grandpa and all the family, maybe you can go along and
just take a vacation as well.. be friends,, thats the most important.. please let her read this
and tell her that my advice.. woman to woman is to stay and make the best of it.

And for you, whatever help she needs to get on her feet you should help, she is far away from
home and your her support system right now. take care of each other till this gets settled, thats
why you married, that doesnt change, that baby needs both of you now..

you seem like a wonderful man, so talk to her about it, but tell her your feelings on the Poland
issue and take your time and be patient. things will work out :))

agree.. I think someone was bored and wanted to post whatever.

Love / Do Polish men like to sleep with other men? [79]

Though accusing someone of perfectly legal sexual practices is not an insult.

Johnnny , He is feeling insulted by it because when someone generalizes, they are basically
including the whole population of men, to which he finds it insulting because he is married man.

I think a lot of gay polish men have come to ruin the u.k.

I think the only ONE ruining the uk is you, shyt stirring puzzys like you need to admit that you were
born with your finger up your fanny.

Genealogy / Szcziglak - Siglock Help [17]

My grandmothers name was Veronika Imielska or Imelska or some derivative, not Anna.

I dont know why I put that up, I think I was looking in immigration in baltimore or philly
not sure how that came up, sometimes they use middle names or shorten the name
so if I did in fact find something ( dont remember what) It was prob a guess due to dates and
such..

I will look again this week, and try to find the reference to that record or why/what I found to
rule out that record.

:) did u get that family tree maker software?

Genealogy / Szcziglak - Siglock Help [17]

I have an old version of family tree maker around here somewhere but I doubt it will
work on this pc.

The Newer versions are very useful. It will help you get started, and you can keep track of
documents and dates.. its really great software I have it and the free ancestry is a plus. :)

Poland was under Russian partition - that's a fact.

you are correct, I have documents myself with the WORD Russian on them.

On the immigrations there are many duplicates.. the dates of birth give clues to the actual person

and the census which is what I followed. the ages dont match up. and until there is more evidence
where her family went, you cant just pick out any wincenty or anna..

I had the same problem with records for my grandmother, I still cant find her, I have one that could
be her, but all the other evidence points to her family in Pennsylvania.

as for poland records.. hopefully someone can look up the church name and address so she
can get records. that first town is wincentys town.. not the immigration one.
so if you want to send her in the wrong direction.. go ahead.

PS.. I have my dads records for his family all the way back to 1759 just so people know
I am not a professional, but I do know what I am doing.

I offer my help... take it or leave it.

no sweat off my back.

PS. my only search right now involves health, because I found one other child who
had passed away at 14 months in 2007, so my quest is to connect those familys not
currently in my tree and to help PREVENT more deaths from occuring thru education
and genetics.. because that was what brought me to where I am today!!

I have some really old 1820.. but very hard to see latin as well, The older records get
more blurry on the family history centers readers.

I am also stuck at the moment. but plan to get microfilm for another town close by
I want to think outside the box. check all the small towns in the area. least those I
found some records for.

I know you know what I mean.. :)

Genealogy / Szcziglak - Siglock Help [17]

Name: Vincent Szczizlak
Home in 1930: Moundsville, Marshall, West Virginia
View Map
Age: 46

Estimated Birth Year: abt 1884
Birthplace: Poland

I see in the above post that you think that vincent was only 18 years old on arrival.

in Learning genealogy, you must follow the paper trail backwards rather then go right to
the immigration and just assume that this person is your family.

I dont know your family, you obviously are asking for help in finding them.

The above appears to be the person in question that you want to find information about.
if we follow your thoughts on the record you found below

First Name: Wincenty
Last Name: Szczyglok
Ethnicity: Russia, Polish
Last Place of Residence: Tabuty, Russia
Date of Arrival: Oct 22, 1912
Age at Arrival: 18y Gender: M Marital Status: S
Ship of Travel: Kroonland
Port of Departure: Antwerp
Manifest Line Number: 0028

I believe these people are my mother's parents. Any info about relatives would be appreciated.
thanks
Kat

And that say

They were both Polish this I know

when both records show they came from Russia not poland so it makes them russian
then it would be safe to say that your not sure on this record and this would not be him
because it has a 10 year difference in birth.

on the original cencus gives clues, but you have to travel backwards by cencus, from 1930,
1920, 1910. and see if they are in all of them. WWI drafts, WWII drafts etc,. then try the
immigrations.

some people are very lucky in finding their ancestors in immigration because they already know
the information so they can match up what town they came from and who were the relatives
they came to stay with.

10 years is a big.. no HUGE difference. and i am not saying it cant happen, but I dont believe
that is him. Without conclusive evidence showing what relatives family went to stay with
its impossible to say this would be him.

The other record I havent looked at yet , but I again dont know your family, I am following the
paper trail which clearly shows his age, and dates.

I can copy the original cencus ( if you dont have ancestry) to you to show you what was found
so you can see that the immigration doesnt add up.

good luck

Genealogy / Polish birth, death and marriage records in Russian scripts? [16]

It is not so big problems to read 19-th century pre-reform russian texts. ;)

:) for me it was hard.. my very first record was my fathers aunts and his fathers record that
arrived in the mail in Russian script.. when i opened it, I was happy but lost. because I couldn't
read it and I had expected to be able to see the names at least.

A very sweet Russian Girl that was staying with a co-worker ( exchange program) helped me read them and it was a very exciting day for me.

she went back to Russia to finish school. that was in 2003 so its been a while since I have had them.

Genealogy / Polish birth, death and marriage records in Russian scripts? [16]

Hopefully some of our resident Russians and Ukrainians (who are really Russians too) will be of help.

:) I am hoping lol I put them away for a while, cause to stare at them would be torture.

Hi Pat, I have the same problem. I went to the Polish Archives and got the original records written in Russian for my family. Could possibly have someone, but I am still looking myself.

I sympathize. I tried to learn. but no dice. its very hard to distinguish when a word begins
or ends in some of these.

at least in polish i can see where the word ended and even the older records were not difficult to
read. hard to look at because of the ink/smearing etc. but you could tell where a sentence begins
and ends..

at one point I had 52 of them. so if I can get thru these with some help I will be doing good.

Genealogy / Wyrombecki: someone can help with a difficult Polish name? [15]

The problem I see is the different spellings of what appears to be the same surname in some databases. While researching members on my mothers side of the family I have seen given names and surnames misspelled as well as dates being wrong.

thats a given problem with old records and documents, I have found numerous decrepancies in
pretty much all my records found for my family..

not uncommon.

Any other information would be priceless, I cannot thank you enough.

are you referring to the topa above? or the other records?
