History / Did British public protest against the sell out of Poland to the Soviets? [286]

Sandancer, Ironside, we have to move on!
even my dad was only a small child in WW2, and i am no spring chicken.
we know nothing about what really happened in WW2, apart from what we have read in our rather biased history books.
to the OP; realisitically we have NO CLUE if the 'British public protested against the sell out of Poland to the Soviets' - none of us were alive,

(except possibly nunczka....)
however I should point out that as part of the 'sell out', thousands of Polish were offered a home in the UK.
how do we know what real choices our leaders had at that time?

Genealogy / Is Czarnecki Really A Polish Or Actually A Sephardic Jewish Surname? [110]

. I also hate when those like Magdalena, jon357, and delphadomine twist it into an Anti-Semitic game and say that I slander my own family!

fgs Nicki, there's no 'anti semitism', just questioning of what on earth you are talking about.
Many of us are interested in the origins of our family names, but hey, they are only names, don't hang your whole life and identity on them.

Czarnecki is just a Polish name, no more no less.
There are no places in Spain called this.
why are you getting so irate about it? why not just be American?

News / Could be in prison for 10 years for trying to bribe the Polish traffic police [39]

Sure, accidents happen. So what. People tend to fall out of windows as well. So why we not outlaw high buildings. Cigaretes can cause a cancer, so lets outlaw... I see, goodby the freedom. First they take my cigarettes, car is next, and then they put the ban on sex.

very silly comparisons....IMO.
'freedom' is not the right to mow down small children if they get in your way. Unless you are some kind of psychopath.
I am 'free' to drive, because I stay within the law.
I also stay a good distance behind any car/truck with Polish plates, incidentally. That gives me the 'freedom' to keep living.

So, Britan has no freedom whasoever. Are you proud of it?

freedom to drive through built up residential areas at 80 kph? would that be something to be proud of? weird.
dual carriageways only have this restriction for a good reason (eg houses, schools) and for a short distance.

actually now i think of it, actual dual carriageways with 30 mph limit are few and far between.

as for the A127 in Essex, that is a fecker of a road and has that limit for a good reason.

.

If people are parking on the shoulder it's because there isn't another place for them to park.

PP when was the last time you drove on a UK motorway? of course there are places to park..they are called 'service stations', which have 'lorry parks' or should i say, just to be clear, 'truck stops'

FGS.

Do you judge Polish people as a whole nation by some morons who had no manners

well obviously not, or I wouldn't have any Polish friends by now, would I?
I thought we were dealing in sweeping generalizations though? I quote....

but because we are just different from you and have far better values.

He wasn't being ridiculed for being foreign, but for being a dick.
and you yourself come over as spiteful, petty, jealous and irrational.....I bet you came to UK and couldn't get a job, or possibly thought you were too good for the jobs on offer.

just saying.

What amused you the best ,

where he started going BOO HOO BOO HOO WAH WAH WAH with no tears on his face - what a classic. - or possibly where his trousers fall down, not sure....

British humor.

exactly PP

but because we are just different from you and have far better values.

Monia the rudest people I have met IN MY LIFE have been POlish people in UK laughing and joking about the appearance of everyone around them, in the arrogant belief that nobody could possibly understand them,.

That is real fact.

I meant that this driver's agitated defiance towards the police, when he felt they were going to ruin his day, was in my opinion more manly, even with the tears, than the attitude of someone who'd fawningly thank the police for ruining his day.

manly?
If that was one of the men in my life I would be ashamed of him, unless he were to become a new comedy icon and incredibly rich and could buy me a house in Barbados.

Come on folks, lighten up.....some of these comments are bordering on the....slightly nutty.

after checking and finding out that he was not a British citizen ask him if he understands English if not try to phone a translator to communicate with him

have you actually watched it through, or were you too busy foaming at the mouth to pay attention and notice the interpreter called in minutes?

You would be a terrible barrister.

My aproach to reality is firmly based in my roots , historical knowledge , facts, common sense , responsibility , clear communication and straightforwardness

and yet when someone gives a rational and reasonable argument, you do not answer.

situation would be handled without a cameraman

I do actually agree with you here Monia! The camera thing these days is intrusive and unnecessary.

because you are British and thus you easily can fall into a prejudice.

hmm...well I think we are all guilty of that about our own countries, some more than others......
.

The cops were totally aware of the fact that he was totally harmless person

I don't think that is ever a given fact in police work.

From a legal point of view they acted unprofessionally .

if that were the case, the footage would have 'disappeared'

Do you really believe it that lie ? Show me the evidence of your claim , pls.

what is a lie exactly? I do not understand what you mean.
Monia, this 'argument' is becoming silly.
I can assure you from personal and bitter experience that even being in possession of a knife in a public place can very easily land you in a whole heap of trouble.

I will spare you the details, suffice it to say I will not be working in FE colleges as I used to, any time soon.(CRB check), despite being released after some hours without a caution.(and WITH my knife!)

My DNA is now on the government's database.
My knife was not for potatoes, but for something equally innocent.
So this guy was lucky that these police officers left it at that, and were so kind to him.
I don't know why you are getting so upset about it.

i would be extremely cheerful if I had waved a knife around and that were taken no further......
What a total idiot.(the driver, that is..:)

In Poland the whole case would be handled the way like this : Polish police would ask you : do you speak Polish , sir ?

I seriously doubt that.
anyway, he was supplied with an interpreter within minutes, didn't you notice?
I thought the police in this video were polite and professional, they just saw the humour in the situation too.
Perhaps explain to us how and where exactly they 'behaved like animals'?
Some people have no sense of humour......

Just the ridiculous drama is enough to cause anyone rivers of tears from frustration and mental anguish!

the 'ridiculous drama' was from him, don't be silly, the police were just doing their job. As Harry said, the law is there for a reason.

And as Jon said, an experienced lorry driver should know this.
Incidentally in view of him waving a knife about and having hysterics, he was extremely lucky not be taken, held for hours under the mental health act, etc etc., and the fact that he

was not, was purely down to the police treating him well, very well indeed.
why is it just Americans who are whining on about this?

A sample of usual bashing of some Polish driver, driving a truck on Polish plates, they could not resist to leave it as they would do it if it was on English plates.

fgs Monia, stop being such a victim, it is illegal to stop on the hard shoulder regardless of nationality.
Hilarious bit of victimy acting!
I thought the traffic cops were rather kind to him, a hell of alot kinder than he might expect in some other european countries.

ZIMMY just pulling your leg, I knew you would like Lisa...:)
