Life / Polish clothing - Polish folk costumes [28]

Hello hpretty242,

And welcome to the Polish Forums.

Like Spain I am sure, Poland has many different traditional customs from different regions.

So for an example, Zakopane, highlanders in the south of Poland, 100 km south of Krakow in the Tatra mountains have these kinds of costume:

poland podhale

And here are some from Krakow: poland zakopane dress

traditional embroidered woolen costumes with their characteristic parzenica motifs.

I don't know if you want any particular region's costume or just an example but perhaps for your project you could take several examples and compare and contrast them.

Good luck.

I appear in that film, fairly early on! In the crowd scene playing an anti-nuclear demonstrator.

Hahaha, bloody terrifying film.

I know someone who was an extra in a Nazi zombi movie, so! ;)

The Norwegian one? Død snø?, that was very enjoyable.

the West was a no go

I never thought that would change growing up.
I am very glad it did, they were terrifying times especially with the possibility of nuclear annihilation. I watched a shocking documentary Threads recently.

I don't think any good can come from a segregated bipolar world.

During communism, where could a typical "man off the street" travel to?
I mean could he go to other communist countries for holidays?

In Lithuania when they were part of the U.S.S.R, they needed written permission for a city person to go to the country and visa-versa in their own country!

I have been told that Poles had to apply for a passport but you had to know who to bribe even with that not many people traveled due to the restrictions and certainly not outside of the communist countries.

From an architectural point of view it was an abomination too.
Vilnius is very similar to Krakow with regards to architecture but the commies destroyed some of the beauty and stuck in the austere communist blocks, out with the old, in with the new! terrible.

There was only communists or enemies of the people...no national identity whatsoever.

I thought before that this might make for an interesting thread.
I see Poland now trying to return to some of the pre-communist traditions, Religion etc... because of what communism tried (unsuccessfully) to destroy.
I think it is interesting for people to better understand certain aspects of Poland.

You know BB, it is very difficult for anyone not born in communism to understand it at all. I have been discussing it for years and it still makes no sense whatsoever to me.

The opposite exactly.

Should we take that "Are you an idiot vote" now?

Communism kept these states pure and emphasized the national identity.

Your lack of understanding is uncontested.
Communism tried to destroy traditional national identity, that was part of the program.
And I am sure that you would have some difficulty trying to pursued Polish people that communism is a good thing.
You should come to Poland, you might actually learn something, if that is possible.

you better answer SeanBM

Or else what?

I have already told you twice that you are not worth replying to because you use arguments based purely on your opinion and being a dogmatic bigot, it is unlikely to change no matter what facts or counter arguments I produce.

..that's juts too utopic.

So your argument is that it is too good to be true, well perhaps but all good things have to start somewhere.

you still won't say

He now claims he is Flemish, I sincerely doubt that.
I think a lot of his hate for black people might come from his partner leaving him for a black man.

I am no idiot.

I would not put it to the vote if you wish to keep this illusion about yourself.

I was thinking the same about you

Great come back, just repeating what I say, inspiring stuff there jarnowa :)

Let's hope you will never get a position in which you can decide about the future of Poland

It is not my country, I think Polish people should decide the fate of their country.
I can only offer my opinions and reasons, that all.

because then this nice country will soon become Polrabia. [YUCK]

You should read about the Muslims that used to be accepted in Poland, in fact Poland was one of the most multicultural countries in Europe, welcoming people from all different faiths and backgrounds.

So no facts about

"80-90% of (often violent) street crime, robberies, murders, rapes

being committed by Non-European immigrants jarnowa.
Just your racist opinion, I thought so.

I am sick of talking to you jarnowa, it is not the fact that you are a racist but that you are such a bad debater and never show any evidence and just keep screaming about your opinion.

I could do a better job than you can debating the pitfalls of immigration.
In fact it would be interesting if we were to argue the other's position but you can't even argue your own.
So I am going to have to ignore you in future.

i'm talking about facts.

Show us the these so called ''facts'' or stop talking crap.

You don't have to believe me, just go to some multicultural countries and talk with some people.

I don't believe you and I have lived in large cities with people from all over the world.

but it's obvious you haven't been to Belgium, Holland, France, Germany, UK for many years.

That is not true.
Your power of observation is pitiful.

You are obviously going to say the blacks and I am obviously going to say not in Poland and you are obviously going to pick out some crap and i am going to say we are talking about Poland and you are going to say we are talking about immigration, at which point I will point out that you are an immigrant and you will just be the racist you are and blame blacks.

So to save us all a lot of trouble, I will write this post :)

I don't talk on behalf of anyone, i just confront you hippy dreamers with the opinion of the majority of Polish people.

Your talking on behalf of the majority of Polish people and you are not a Pole but an immigrant here.
You have problems with simple logic, this sentence really shows what kind of person you are.

Does that make me a racist? Oh no. Nothing against arabs and africans, as long as they don't come to my territory!

You are a racist, yes and Poland is not your territory, you are NOT A POLE.

That's just your opinion. You as an immigrant to Poland should respect that the majority of Polish people don't want multiculturalism.

You are talking to a Polish person here LTB.

You are the immigrant in Poland and you pretend to talk on behalf of the Majority of polish people? that's a laugh.
You don't respect a Polish person's view and you are asking him to leave his own country.

Boy oh boy, you got nerve.

the third generation moslems is often more fanatical and less inclined to integrate than the first one.

I have heard this from many people in London too.

I find this interesting and have talked about it with people.
It seems (no certain) that the first generation want a better life, go to London to work their butts off and carve out a life for themselves, the second generation are in direct contact with the first but the third are disconnected from their roots, a foreigner in their own country and the country that their family came from. Like those British kids who did the 7 July 2005 London bombings.

I don't know how valid this observation is but I have talked to several people about it.

Wasn't just the IslamforUK banned in Great Britain too?

There are a lot of crazy people in every big city, I would imagine there are many many banned groups, combat 18 for an example. I don't know much about banned groups in the U.K.

But today the favorite people to fear are Muslims.

*shuffles with feet*

I do the same thing sometimes, don't worry.

If their numbers rise further as they do now they will get in another generation the democratic power to change our Europe after their will, and there is not a thing we could do about it...legally...

Not all Russians are communists, not all Muslims think that Sharia law must be the law.

I don't have to take everything smiling...

I know but you are clever and name calling is beneath you.

Oh how I hate this...I wish Butcher would change his username! ;)

I wish Butcher would contribute or leave.

Edit* are there any countries in the world with Sharia law?

Iran

Pakistan

Saudi Arabi

Nigeria

Sudan

Iraq (prior to 2003)

Egypt

If your newborn daughter will in a few years be forced to wear the scarf and the Sharia law will be common in your home town you might wake up but then it will be to late...

That is insecurity.

Sharia law is not in the E.U., neither is communism nor a hundred other ways of life.

passivity, uncaring, your stupidity.

BB, that's not like you, play nice.

I don't think it is enough that you and your partner are having children to get her an American green card. Marriage is probably the best way but I would not advise marriage unless you want to, not because you need to. If you know what I mean.

a "backward" country so you can make fun of me instead of reacting to my arguments.

You have no arguments, that has been proven.
And no, it was not to make fun of you.
And I never said backward anything, you keep getting confused.
And no matter where you came from, I still would not believe you are the spokesman for your country.

first you tell me what your exact ethnic background is (and don't say Irish because that's only the place you grew up), then i will tell you what country i'm from

I am Irish born, my father and mother are Irish and so were their fathers and mothers all the way back.
So where were you born?, brought up? and where are your parents from?

The german football association had sold barely 1000 tickets out of 20.000 for South Africa.

Apart from the problems South Africa has, I can honestly say that it is the most beautiful country I have ever been to.

Actually I am surprised that nobody has brought up the Johannesburg immigration riots yet on this thread. Are all you racists too stupid to do your own debating??? :p
