Life / Favourite Polish movies? [107]

Missed that one also!

I liked it, though it had a bit of a made for TV feel, which is probably not an accident.

It didn't go down so well in Poland, since a lot of people felt it wasn't Polish enough about her (it was actually quite Polish in theme) and also included scenes about her adulterous affair - something not talked about much here but a huge thing at the time in France. The film dealt with it very well.

Life / Favourite Polish movies? [107]

I enjoyed the new Polish-French co-production about Marie Curie. The people I was at the cinema with weren't so impressed. It would probably have worked better if it was padded out and turned into a miniseries, or shortened as a film, however it's worth watching.

Life / Favourite Polish movies? [107]

Dzień Świra isn't one of the greats, however it's great fun to watch.

I saw a new one recently, called PolandJa. Good, even excellent cinematography, though it came across like a group of short films by young directors rather than the star studded film that it was. At the premiere, even the cast looked a bit embarrassed and I overheard one of them saying that she was. Nevertheless, it's interesting and a bit of a reflection of a certain type of life in Warsaw. If you haven't seen it, it's worth a look. A lot was filmed around Powisle and under Most Poniatowskiego.

Law / Poland's Citizenship Requirements - Is a permanent resident card necessary ? [26]

Sounds like someone fired and trying to go freelance. There are a few businesses like that. They were useful back in the 90s though very little point nowadays, especially as the issue (for those of us like the OP, a citizen of an EU country) the issue and procedure is clear cut and unambiguous.

Law / Poland's visit visa refused; "intention to leave the country is not determined". [35]

As such, it would be worth putting down a heavy investment somewhere in Pakistan that would prove you have to return.

This is actually good advice. It may help with your visa application.

The fact that you were in the UK and didn't overstay your visa is proof of nothing to the bureaucrats, it could actually work against you.

I don't think this would work against him. One thing that can often help is proof of previous visas for travel.

News / Public trust in Polish state TV drops [20]

TV state is governmental TV by definition

Right now in Poland, yes. Most countries' state TV has a degree of independence.

At least most people here are aware of the situation and prefer the independent TVN and Polsat.

CBOS = Centrum Badania Opinii Społecznej, supervised by the council of ministers, the premier and the president.

Work / Studies In Poland, is it easy to survive on part-time jobs? [259]

it's fuelled a boom in overseas students.

Thousands of overseas students work now, especially in catering and gastronomy.

these fees are helping the public universities considerably

Studying in Poland is an increasingly popular option.

Work / Studies In Poland, is it easy to survive on part-time jobs? [259]

the number of jobs being done by immigrants with pidgin Polish has increased very quickly in the last few years.

Lots and lots.

UberEats in Wroclaw was essentially employing an army of Indian students to do the work?

And in Warsaw. Most are overseas students.

Life / Can someone tell what is the dress code for girls in IT industry Poland [3]

I don't know of any where suits are required

I know of a couple. Neither of them pleasant places to work.

business casual

This is standard. I'd add that people generally make quite an effort here.

Some are more casual, some are less. First impressions do count a lot here and it pays to dress as if for an interview on your first day here.

Food / Making American cheeses (Polish and EU ones are terrible!) [100]

the next minute you couldn't move for decent pints.

Overkill now, too many over-strong darkish weird tasting beers, drunk by hipsters - sometimes you just want a normal one. Cheese has further to go and less profit for investors, though a cottage industry may develop. Right now, people here who can afford it tend to buy imported or locally (factory) produced that pretends to be imported.

Does Poland produce any outstanding cheeses ?

Only Koryciński. You might have to look online for that.

Easy to make (very) however the main organic producer here has won prizes.

It's a bit like Queso Fresco in that people add things to it, like herbs, but lasts slightly longer.

Work / Is 12500 Gross is a good salary to relocate Krakow, Poland [15]

London, Amsterdam or most any mid-sized city in the wes

A very different sort of city. Much more expensive to live in too.

Here are some links the OP may find interesting:

Work / Is 12500 Gross is a good salary to relocate Krakow, Poland [15]

I know your sole activity in life is to deter people from outside Europe from coming to Poland, however the OP may well find he is far less isolated than you think. Kraków as a city has a huge overseas population, many activities and organisations and yes, quite a few people from India living and working there.

With Skype, online TV, the various activities for people from abroad, moving to a different place is far less difficult than it was even a decade ago.

Don't be so negative.

Work / Is 12500 Gross is a good salary to relocate Krakow, Poland [15]

I am looking for a better work & Life balance.

This is key. If you feel you'll have more free time here, it is good. Commuting times are low, office hours are less than you are probably used to, and there are many public holidays.

If you know anyone who's worked in KSA or UAE, ask them about prices of food etc - they are generally similar, however the time spent working is far less here, as is the cost of 'fun things.

Work / Is 12500 Gross is a good salary to relocate Krakow, Poland [15]

That is patently false

The median salary in Kraków is around 4000zl per month.

The median wage of the local general population is completely irrelevant for an ex-pat professional.

This is untrue, when the poster is asking about quality of life.

I suggest he uses the search function to check out the sole topic that you post on here.

12500 PLN.

Net or gross? Net, it's three times the median salary and considered very good for Kraków. Gross, its only about double, but still OK.

1 BHK for 1000PLN to 1200 PLN ?

2000 is a more realistic price.

an Indian community in Poland

More than you think.

@Ghosh32, I would ignore the poster above - it's basically trolling.

News / Which French candidate for president will be best for Poland? [512]

foreign dickhead

As far as I know, Monsieur Le President de France is alway by necessity and by French law a foreigner from both your point of view and mine. At least the best one for Poland won. A bit of a political conservative unfortunately however far better than the other candidate.

Now I will sleep better tonight.

I doubt it.

Poland and Europe are certainly safer now the risk from the fascist Le Pen has been resolutely seen off.

When Kaczynski falls, that's a step further.

When Trump does a Nixon and resigns (if he's wise enough) or is removed from office (if he isn't, and let's face it he isn't), the world will be a step further in the right direction.
