Love / Polish men :( demand forgiveness [35]

What do I do?

The basic question comes to mind: do you want to have kids with him after what he did?

UK, Ireland / How might Britain`s withdrawal from EU affect Poles there and here? [474]

It formally took place in 1973.

The United Kingdom, which had refused to join as a founding member, changed its policy following the Suez crisis and applied to be a member of the Communities. The UK and US were concerned about France attempting to usurp US leadership in Europe and the US encouraged the UK to join in order to counterbalance French influence. Other EEC members were also inclined to British membership on those grounds. French President Charles de Gaulle feared Britain's US influence and vetoed British membership.[7]

Once de Gaulle had left office, the door to enlargement was once again opened. The EEC economy had also slowed down and British membership was seen as a way to revitalise the community.[7] Only after a 12-hour talk between British Prime Minister Edward Heath and French President Georges Pompidou took place did Britain's third application succeed.[18] After Britain was accepted Prime Minister Edward Heath said:

"For my part, I have no doubt at all that the discussions which we have had will prove of real and lasting benefit, not only to Britain and France, but to Europe as a whole."[18]

Why do you think so? Is British presence in the EU a major problem for other members now?

Life / Polish vs British vs American - Clash of cultures [390]

you seem to be saying there are none of those here

Hmm, I think that what I said

There aren`t too many of such dwellings here.

doesn`t really mean none, will you agree?

We do have a few small places, similar to hostels, where people have a private room and share a bathroom, sometimes even a kitchen.
Our university dormitories also are one room, often shared by two people, on a hallway with a common bathroom facility.
Other university dorms (also many military barracks facilities) are more like a communalka with 2-4 rooms sharing a common sitting room and bathroom.

Very nice, however, let me remind you we are talking about places for sale, purchase or let/rent:

In classified ads, Poles say about 3 room flats and they mean it. Living room plus 2 bedrooms. Brits write 3 bedroom flat but it actually means 4.

UK, Ireland / How might Britain`s withdrawal from EU affect Poles there and here? [474]

Two facts:
1. Cameron publicly promised to hold a referendum on Britain`s presence in the EU.

2. Currently, it is estimated about 600.000 Poles are staying and working in UK, sending their families back in Poland substantial financial support.

News / Failures of Poland and Tusk`s government [191]

The decision to grant bonuses was taken by the Parliament Marshall who is a member of the ruling party.

Under the pressure of public opinion, they decided to give their bonuses to charity etc.
Quick action!

A few reforms didn`t outweigh multiple blunders and procrastination and haven`t stopped the decrease of Tusk`s government ratings which plunged to levels from 2007 when J. Kaczyński and PiS were in power.

79% are critical about the government, while only 15% support it.

History / What do Poles owe to Russians? [193]

I just thought there may have been some places with an unusual or interesting story that foreigners didn’t know about

Probably but nothing comes to my mind right now and besides, it is a topic for another thread which you or someone else can start: Interesting/peculiar names of streets in Poland. .

kitchen and bathroom

That`s obvious in ads.

An apartment with one room which serves as kitchen. den and bedroom along with a private bathroom would be advertised as a "Studio".

and with a shared bathroom would be a a bedsit.

Do not equate them with PiS.

Why not? After all, PiS are worse than others. They brag of their high morale but every now and then somebody proves it isn`t true.

Are you really so confused that your view of reality is distorted? Poor pawian.

You are wasting time! :):):)

News / Failures of Poland and Tusk`s government [191]

Come on, they are consistent in their attitude.Nothing new here. The ruling party made self-gratification into their only real achievement.

Yes, it is nothing new and they do it every year, also when PiS was in power in 2005-7.

Poles of their ilk can carry a grudge like nobody's business (my Mom, God rest her soul, included).

Not only Poles. All nations. Did you know that the tsar Ivan the Terrible killed his son for disobedience???

Life / Why in Poland most people use cloth sponge to wipe off windscreen? [23]

Sorry, I have to disagree.

Quotes from Inwrocław`s link:
It says running engines while a vehicle is not moving is an 'inefficient use of fuel' and results in the release of gases that have a 'negative effect on both climate change and public health'.

We have received a number of complaints from concerned members of the public about the pollution stationary vehicles give off, especially elderly buses and lorries.'

Despite negative comments:
on-the-spot fines ...I don't think so. Theres something called The Bill Of Rights 1688, which was put onto the statute books in 1689. It states: No fines or forfeitures without first being found guilty in a court of law. Remember your rights people, learn them or lose them! You'll win in court as they wont have any evidence!

I am for the law.

News / Poland rejects H1N1 vaccine [28]

Turn out that polish health minister is a tough little lady doctor who has some independent university advisors/professors, and this tough lady doctor got this enorumous pressure on her and said to big pharma "F..K OFF" :-)

Very probable. Today we know the decision not to buy foreign vaccines was one of good actions of Polish government at the time.
