Party membership will be required

Care to provide a relevant quote from the civil service law? The measure was enacted to do away with corrupt and fixed contests which were just as crooked as many of the industrial tenders are.

corruption is rife

The PRL was corrupt to the core -- nothing could be dealt with without greasing the palm, and PO was a hotbed of corruption and scamsterism. Since there are surely more PO backers and ex-PZPR types in KOD than PiS supproters, ergo corruption is KOD's middle name! Supporting KOD means accepting and promoting corruption as a way of life! Like Piłsudski's Sanacja, the PiS clean-up campaign will sweep all the crud away!

I love the fact that you don't understand

Intellectual sadism of Schadenfreude? If a fellow-man lacks knowledge, a decent person's reaction is to elighten him, not deride nor derive pleasure therefrom. But then who ever said Delph was a decent person?!

are in any way privileged

The correct prhasing is: They are NO LONGER as priviłeged as they had been under PO, but some survivors are holding on by hook or by crook. People like Żakowski, Olejnik, Miller and Tusk have visibly toned down their PiS-bashing. Just to be on the safe side presumably. One never know what lies ahead, so those with any poltical ambitions prudently tread lightly and try not to overdo things.

weren't old enough

Maybe not, but those who won out on the roundtable passed their (ill-gotten?) gains and cushy posts on to the next generation, creating post-communist mini-dynasties of the privileged.

The so-called "grass-roots" protest movement mainyl comprises an Obamesque liberal-libertine-leftstream camp allied with the banksters and disentitled nomenklatura. Seems like unlikely bedfellows, but when the "feed trough" is involved, those pushed away from it will seek out seemingly exotic allies. In a word, it's the elites - opportunistic radish communists and KOR-leaning Solidiarity leftists (Michnik & Co) - that struck the roundtable deal (Magdalenka and all that) and lived happily ever after vs those who lost out on the transformation and whose defender are now PiS. The continuing Polish-Polish war began during the Soldiarity "carnival" when the pro-KOR and "true Poles" factions first emerged. The roundtable and June 1989 election temporarily created the illusion of unity in the anti-PZPR camp, but the rifts re-emerged when Wałęsa launched his "war at the top" (worker Soldarity vs KOR and Katolewica). The battle lines got further entrenched in 1992 when Wałęsa realigned himself with Kuroń, Tusk, Kwaśniewski, Pawlak, et al to topple the Olszewski govt and stop the opening of declassified police files which identified him as an SB informer codenamed "Bolek". Today's KOD (Komitet Obrony Demokracji" are mostly middle-aged and elderly, the disentiteld beneficiaries of the roundtable with very few younger folk in their midst. Their opponents call it Komitet Obrony Koryta (Committee in Defense of the Trough).

PiS have been in power for only three months but already have succeeded in eneacitng key legislative measures reforming the Constitutional Court, law enforcement, public media and civil service. The economy is the most difficult to quickly dynamise, but the 500zł per 2nd child and bank and retail chain tax have been enacted and await implementation. We'll just have to wait and see how things turn out.

privileged

Ask about next tiem you mingle and hobnob with that mob. Retired schoolteacher, bookkeeper, offcie worker, public officials, etc. sound innocuous enough until you find out they were in the PZPR like Balcerowicz, Kuroń, Miller, Kwaśniewski and others.

to save Poland's democracy

...You mean to save Polish demcoracy for a forrely privileged, now disentitled niche group pushed away from the trough by the Polish voter.

defend democracy

So you're claiming that not 50%, not 23%, not even 12% but zero% of the KOD marchers are ex-PZPR members and TW inforemrs? And all of them now have better perks and privileges than when PO or other pro-roundtable parties were in power?

ex-PZPR clowns

Ex-PZPR members including Balcerowicz, some 30 PO MPs and even senior functionaries of the commie regime like Miller and Kwaśniewski will not be prosecuted unless it is proved they collaborated with the SB or used their position to commit a crime. So if you've got evidence against any of the above or the PiS appointees you claim are so "endess", get in touch with the IPN.

systematic fundraising

Fund-raising -- some will be eagerly volunteering ot help take up the collection. Naturally out of sheer, heartfelt and unrestraiend love of of KOD (LOL)!

state property handed out

What about ex-PZPR member Balzermann's so-called privatisation -- selling off nearly all of Poland's industrial assets to foreign concerns for a song (and probably a hefty kickback)? Indeed, the commies who struck the roundtable deal

won out on trasnforamtion and that's what it was all about. Now they are marching under KOD's banners. One of their slogans could well be: "Dawniej wiernie służyłem w ORMO teraz głosuję za Platformą!" (make beeline for Google translate).

Another failure of PO

Also the shipyard rescue by mysterious Arab investors, the slashing of bureacracy that ended with 100,000 more clerks, the promised crackdown on the designer drug trade and pedos (chemcial castration even?), the incompelte roads ahead of Euro 2012, and the list goes on....

major failure of KOD protesters

Germany's "Nürnberger Zeitung" regard the EP's Poland debate as a smoke-screen "The EU have totally different problems. Perhaps their energetic actions in response to alleged violation of democracy in Warsaw is a way of diverting attention away from their total incompetence in dealing with the refugee issue," the paper wrote.

89 delegates to the Council of Europe's Assembly were opposed to holding a debate on the situation in Poland and 14 abstained.
May be the KOD ranter-chanters will hold a picnic next Saturday instead of trudging through the slush. LOL!

KOD really start moving

Yes, moving in circles. The good news is that the Michnik/KOD hysteria and Petru/Schetyna snicthery have backfired. This just in: THE EU HAVE DECIDED NOT TO ADOPT A RESOLUTUION ON THE SITUATION IS POLAND. There are far more pressing issues such as terrorism and the migrant/refugee crisis.

rather than the cause

They are both a cause and effect. The unmitigated anti-PiS hate speech reported in the world media and the sight of hysterical disgruntled nationwide KOD protesters streaming through the streets week after week, after week, after week... do make an impression whether you like it and whether it fits your propaganda line or not. That's the way the cookie crumbles.

hysterical PiS supporters

Of course hard facts and figures are the key, except that those now available are quite positive: dropping unemployment, low inflation and predicetd up to 4% GDP. So all they really have to go on is the Michnik/KOD doomsday predictions and endless anti-PiS hate speech that gets reported in the world media. Not to mention the hysterical KOD marches themselves -- disgruntled ranting, chanting, placard waving mobs all over the country. That DOES make an impression whether you admit it or not.

editorial in a non-English language

But no-one can miss BBC, CNN and domestic TV stations, DPA, AFP, Reuters, ANSA, AP et al as well as Internet news sites and English and other print media leading with massive street protests sweeping the country week after week and week... That is impressive overwhelming, intimidating and business-deterring to be sure!

lost confidence

Just like Michnik who declared fascism was coming even before the election results were in. Do you deny that daily media reports of irate Greeks in the streets for months on end made no impression on the outside world and both torusirts and investors rushed there to get in on the action?!

permanent atmosphere of hysteria

Finally you have provided an apt description of KOD's shenanigins: permanent atmosphere of hysteria. I couldn't have phrased it better myself. And that is not a drawing card for investors.

all PiS have to do is to accept

Even if they did, PO PiS-bashers will find some other pretext to destabilise things, then another and a thrid, fourth, fifth, sixth.... You don't really think the disentitled losers' sense of frustraiton and resentment at falling from grace will miraculously evaporate if some judges get sworn in, do you?

have heard of it

The KOD name is unimporant. Investors also follows current events and a country plagued by constant street demos across the country is not perceived as a good place to set up a business. If PO get their way and pressure the EU into passing a Poland resolution, that will be yet another investment deterrent, whether or not that was the intention.

News / Poland's democracy defenders in Brussels turned out to be EU employees. [62]

all the people

The term "all the people" is rarely ever true. But it is not inconceivable that the bulk or at least a significant number were EU employees. Just as in Poland "all the KOD" marchers are not ex-PZPR types, but they do represent a significant number. And one can "herd with the word" not only with an electric cattle prod. People can be told they are defending democracy when in fact the image of disgruntled mobs streaming through the streets all over the country simply conveys to the outside world the imrpession of chaos and instability.

the instability they've caused

The aura of instability has been projected to the outside world by KOD's shenanigins. If they're worried about jobs then they're shooting themselves in the foot by doing everything to scare off job-creators. Remember how tourism fell off in Greece when day after day people worldwide saw street protests and clashes in Athens. KOD may be harmless, but seen from afar the mobs in the street create the impression of general chaos and instabiltiy, the more so when it is showntaking place in dozens of cities simultaneously.
