History / Defying Germaniztion in 1901 Polish boy writes 'German girls are ugly' [128]

Most of the children in the Soweto Uprising were much older than 12 or 13, AFAIK, and the little ones were most likely drawn in by their older peers. Also, don't forget: 1901 was a totally different time. The protests in WrzeĊ›nia were definitely a sign of Polish resistance, but to call that "The unbreakable children of Wrzesnia" is a bit much.

We had a 12 year old promiscuous girl in the tower block I lived in back in Poland.

Remember: we are talking 1901.

but millions upon millions of rocks thrown by children of these ages in occupied Palestine are hard evidence to the contrary.

Do you really believe that this is their own idea? I don't.

News / Military power (Poland #21 in the world) [97]

Germans had nukes just not their own

True, in case of a war they would have had direct access to the American nukes. BTW: do you know about Poland? Did they have access to the Soviet nukes at all?

but I just wanted to point out that Germany and Japan were not allowed to have this after WWII

Germany was offered nukes in the 1950's, but they declined, AFAIK.

History / Polish martyrology during WW2 - today`s monuments [54]

Memory is important, I agree with you, and history should not be forgotten. But WW2 ended 66 years ago and most of those who lived through it are either dead or very old. What kind of "healing" (as Marek called it) needs to be done and by whom, if no one is left of that generation? Reliving the painful memories over and over and over again can't be good. Anyway, maybe your photos simply gave me the wrong impression that memorials are at every street corner in Poland, I don't know. There are definitely a lot, and for my personal taste too many. The country needs to look forward in my opinion, not backward - that's all I wanted to say.

Life / Who is poor in Poland? [720]

that monies are only peanuts really - the real value of those funds is in the propaganda element.
Question is - why Poland depends on foreign investments and capitals and who is responsible ?that would be a right question.

Well, at least you get the money from the EU. Better than empty-handed. The question I would ask is: would Poland be better off without a membership? I seriously doubt that, because without being a member of the EU those millions of Polish citizens I've mentioned in my previous post would most likely not be allowed to work in Britain, Germany and elsewhere in Europe. Major problem.

Poland depends on foreign investments because in the days of globalization no country can survive on its own anymore. Actually, the more globalization progresses, the more competition there will be amongst nations for investments and jobs. In the end, this process will drive down wages significantly and multinational corporations will only spend their cash in places where laws and costs are favourable for them (i.e., no protection for employees, low wages, no benefits...). Not something I'm looking forward to.

Life / Who is poor in Poland? [720]

How would Poland look like without millions of its citizens working in other countries, and without the subsidies from the EU? Would you have a huge unemployment, and as a consequence a lot of poor people?

look at Switzerland - an incredibly wealthy country, yet home ownership is very low. Same with Germany.

That has specific reasons; namely the urbanization of those countries. Land is scarce and very expensive. Nations with high rates of home ownership like the US cheat in their statistics, by the way. What they count as a 'home' sometimes, would be called a 'shed' in Switzerland or Germany.

History / Russians 'tortured to death' in Polish camps? [58]

So i believe after WWII Germany needed to have its balls removed via gassing everyone in uniform, civilian or military,

Pointing the finger at the Germans and at the same time behaving like an animal yourself doesn't go together very well. What would be the difference between you and a Nazi then? Sorry, Sok, but I can't believe that you really mean what you are saying here. That sounds more like stirring sh*t.

History / Polish flag over the Reichstag first? [399]

GB didnt have an army at that time, dragging a country without an army into a war is a non factor,

Then I understand even less why some people here criticize Britain for her role at the beginning of WW2. If you don't have an army to speak of, why do you declare war on the most powerful country in Europe of that time? Doesn't make sense, unless Britain was serious about supporting Poland.

History / Polish flag over the Reichstag first? [399]

If Hitler had polish resources in 1939 he'd attack France without a moments notice even in early 1939.

At the cost of dragging GB into the war? Not so sure about that. I always thought Hitler wasn't really interested in a war with the Brits. Although, 1939 seems to tell a different story. Thinking about it: maybe you're right.

The fist victim in the war would be France then

I'm pretty sure that Hitler would've stayed away from France; at least in 1939.

It was only reasonable thing to do!

Makes me sad to think of all the millions of lost lives that (probably) could've been saved. Thanks for your answer, Iron.

History / Polish flag over the Reichstag first? [399]

Well, you mean if Britain would have not meddle to ensure that Poland will fight with Germany?

You see a chance that Poland and Germany would've co-existed without going to war? Otherwise: what would have happened if Germany and Russia attacked Poland in 1939, and Britain and France would've stayed out of the conflict?

Really ? I disagree !

What do you agree on then, Ironside? I'm interested to hear your version of what would have happened with Poland if the Brits and French wouldn't have declared war on Germany.

And you can thank the British for you having the ability to disagree.

Exactly.

History / Polish flag over the Reichstag first? [399]

That's not what I meant, Seanus. Without Britain and France declaring war on the German Empire, there wouldn't have been a WW2 and the Germans and Russians simply would've wiped Poland off the map once and for all.

I don't understand why some Poles here are still complaining about the Brits and French. Be grateful that they declared war on Germany, as they could as well have ignored Poland and her fate. You guys would speak German and Russian without the UK and France.

History / Poland Lithuania - current relations [124]

Writing down and remembering history is not the problem; the anxiety that Pawian mentioned is. For how much longer does Poland want to be stuck in the past? Isn't the future of the country way more important? I really believe that it's time to move on - much like Germany and Israel did for example.

History / Poland Lithuania - current relations [124]

Yes, it is 21 century so why still so many Poles feel anxious about Germans ?

You were born in Poland - you tell me. WW2 ended 66 years ago, and people on PF and in Poland (?) still seem to be obsessed with it even though several generations have passed already. I never really understood where all this anxiety comes from; given the fact that hardly any Pole (or German) can remember the war as an eye witness.

we are only discussing things

Sure... :)

Now let's discuss whether we should partition Poland again. No more useless talks about shifting borders and which city belongs to whom then.
