History / The Celts in Poland. [71]

I am going to put forward an idea I have had since I moved to Krakow first from Sligo (West coast of Ireland).
That the mounds in Krakow are in fact Celtic Cairns built before the Slavs arrived in the Bronze age (1800-1600 BC).

Sligo's landscape is dominated by a cairn "Knocknarea"

(large hill with a stone structure on the top) It looks kind of like a breast with a nipple. There are many more in the area but I would just like to give you an example.

And here in Krakow there are two older ''Kopiec'' that I think may be left from the Celts and it appears I am not the only one:

The age and the original purpose of the mound remain a mystery. Excavations conducted in mid-1930s revealed that the mound consists of a solid wooden core covered with soil and turf. Some artifacts dating from between the 8th and 10th centuries were found inside, but no human remains were discovered. According to another hypothesis the mound is of Celtic origin and dates from the 2nd-1st century BCE.[2]

The pair of man-made barrows some fifty feet high (16.7 m and 14.6 m respectively) upon natural elevations 5,5 miles apart were easily seen from afar. And together with two natural Krakow hills they constitute a gigantic astronomical calendar. From the westernmost Sikornik mountain one can observe the sunrise exactly over the Wawel Hill on the spring equinox as well as on the autumnal one, and over the Mound of Krak on November 1, i.e. the Celtic New Year's Day. While watched from the Mound of Krak, the sun rises over the Mound of Wanda on the eve of the second biggest feast of Celts, May 1.

The Krakus Mound contains, according to legend, a tomb of Krak, the ancient ruler of Cracow. In reality it was more likely to have been used as a religious site of the Celts.

There is also a theory linking the rise to mounds (Krakusa and Wanda) With the presence of Celtic in this area. The Celtic culture of mounds served an important function of a cult, just might be in this case. It was observed that azimuth connecting the two mounds is consistent with the azimuth of sunrise on 1 May. Similar compliance was found in the case of two mounds in the vicinity Przemysl

The region has a turbulent history. In Roman times the region was populated by various tribes of Celto-Germanic admixture, including Celtic-based tribes - like the Galice or "Gaulics" and Bolihinii or "Volhynians" - the Lugians and Cotini of Celtic, Vandals and Goths of Germanic origins (the Przeworsk and Púchov cultures).

This is just a theory, I have no really proof and there seems to be very little information on it.

I am sure they all had polite but sometimes provocative, thought provoking discussions where everyone who took part and read the forums all came away a bit richer and enlightened from the sharing of experiences, asking intelligent questions and figuring out the meaning of it all together as one big happy family.

After all that is how I remember it :)

we asked a helpful guy in the hire shop who said "When the snow has gone" great but does it go as far as mid march?

it is not an exact science, I was skiing last March but that does not mean it is 100% this year but given how long and cold this particular winter is, I don't think you'll have a problem.

I am unfamiliar with Karpacz but ski slope companies usually make their own snow to keep it going.

Incitement to racial hatred is such a sh** law it really is, its just designed to stop anyone from any race saying anything bad towards another. But as we love each other so much i cant understand why there has to be a national law to stop that from happening.

Using this logic we should not have any laws at all.
Murder, paedophilia, theft, listening to Celine Dion are all crimes too.

Do you think it is unrealistic for the U.K. to leave or you just think they will not leave the E.U. if they get power?

This was not meant to be a thread about the BNP but since it has gone that direction pretty much full time I posted this.

I have seen the BNP destroy British people, turning national pride in to xenophobia, freedom of speech into Incitement to racial hatred.

But I was unaware that the BNP wanted the Republic of Ireland in the U.K., not going to happen so forget it.

This thread however is about the foreign workforce in Britain not asylum seekers or refugees or the BNP.

And still noone has told me about any watchdogs, safe guard or statistics about the banks bail out.

I am getting the feeling that there are no watchdogs, no statistics and no one knows where and for what the money being given to the banks is for exactly, where it has gone and where it will be allocated.

Is that not a bit odd? or do you all know? is it a sound plan? is it being controlled? It is the tax payer's money after all.

I am in the wrong business.
If a company, by it's own actions, goes under nothing happens but Banks are treated differently, why?

Who or what keeps a track on why the figure is 37bn? why not 35 or 40? what exactly has the money so far been spent on? and what is this money allocated for?

We read about immigration statistics, there are many watch dogs and counter groups who make sure the public are informed as to what they think is going on.

But again banks don't seem to have any controls, any watchdogs nothing???

People may think this is an issue of indigenous people Vrs foreigners but I see it as a money issue and these runts are laughing all the way to the banks.

UK banks receive £37bn bail-out and that is just for three banks.

It almost feels like being off topic saying this.

Lets face it when we hear about the people of a nation loosing jobs, we are on their side.
When we hear about Brits protesting against foreigners in the workforce, we sympathise with both the Brits and the foreign workforce but when I hear about the banks that created this mess in the first place being bailed out it angers me.

I do not know much about what is happening in Britain but if it is anything like what has taken place in Ireland (and it sounds very similar), energies of would-be protesters should refocus their attention on banks.

it's good the BNP is gaining popularity in UK, because this has to stop and a lot of immigrants need to kicked out of the country.

I am not sure what you are trying to say.
The BNP are a known racist organisation, you and I are in agreement and there is lots of back up for that from official sources.

asylum seekers were given priority for housing, the details are freely available from your local council and i have viewed my local councils and the proportion of foreign people in council housing is far higher than that of native people.

There is a very big difference between the two.

I am not British at all, I am Irish, I have heard stories of those riots and "Paddy bashing" in it's physical form was also an activity back then.

Stopping the wars is a good start, in my honest opinion.
I think specialisations in medicine and technology are also what E.U. countries should be gearing towards.

Governments do publish statistics each year, you just don't read them but they are freely available on the web.
