Life / Horribly cold in Krakow at the moment , how do you cope with such temperatures ? [124]

last night three people died of cold in their own flats,

Don,t worry about me....i know how to keep warm in freezing weather....I used to teach survival , so it would be very embarrasing if i froze to death in my house....

I suspect the ones that died were old people that didn,t eat enough , and did not take precautions to keep up their body tempreture....

I can remember an incident during arctic warfare training in Norway , when a buddy of mine was careless enough to let his winkie touch against the side of a military vehicle whilst having a pee....it stuck...! It was well below zero , and we had already been warned not to touch any metal objects with bare hands , as you will stick to them , and probably lose some skin....

The problem of how to rescue our comrade with the frozen winkie was a delicate one , but we were able to manage it with one of the hot air blowers that we used to heat the vehicle sheds....once we had stopped laughing that is....!

EXTREME COLD TEMPERATURES and the nightmarish insanely hard language.

I think its colder in my house than most of you have to endure , and i am not complaining...well , not too much really....If it gets too much for me to endure , i will buy one of those nice warm flats in Kracow that are such bargain prices right now.....

Ha...well that certainly does not apply to my place...the thermometer in my other room says its zero degrees in there , its not so much warmer in this one where i am huddled over a small electric fire as i type , dressed like a dam eskimo....The water has frozen up , one pipe inside the house has frozen and burst..I need to go out and get some food , but my Jeep won,t start as the battery has died from the cold , and i can,t take it off to charge it , as the bonnet has frozen shut.... I love my farm in the forest in the summer , but in winter its just a test of survival.....Welcome to Poland....!

No , i have not got that far north as yet , i was a bit afraid of going off the edge of the world , but i have seen many pics of the place that my Scottish lady took....Its definatly a bit wild up there , my lady did not see a bus or a telivision untill she was sixteen , and moved to another town...

Frozen lakes make good places to park...as long as the ice does not melt....

One of the things that annoy me , is people who insist on parking right outside the entrance to the supermarket , blocking the road , rather than park in the car park and walk those few extra feet....I am sure if the doors were wider they would drive into the supermarket and shop without actually getting their fat asses out of the car...
