News / Die Welt-Poland and Germany are the economic driving force of Europe [239]

Misery loves company the Europe is on brink of collapse, there be no more euro currency or even Europe union after this year.

May we meet in two years and all laugh about you! ;)

You say that as if that would be something bad....
What do you mean with that? A german dominated Mitteleuropa? Some say it's already there...
Why should we abandon it? ;)

I don't follow this BB, Germany hardly exports to China?

Depends on the sector...take german cars for examples. The Chinese are hot about them. More than the half of all car trade is done with China right now, a huge factor for the whole german economy.

dw-world.de/dw/article/0,,6399683,00.html

Thanks to orders from China, the German electronics sector posted profits of around 12 percent. Car manufacturers doubled their sales and chemicals giants Bayer and BASF had nothing to complain about either.

China is now the biggest exporter into Germany and its biggest trading partner outside of the EU. Germany is China's biggest European investor....

Four out of five luxury cars sold in China are German. Sales of premium cars are expected to double by 2015. Not surprisingly, BMW, Daimler and Audi are already planning to expand their activities in China....

It'll be a while yet and if the boom you are talking about happens, then it will be cheaper again, no?

Don't think so...when the production costs rise generally things won't stay as cheap as they are anymore.

the only difference is that we have the potential and the know how to solve our problems sooner or later and for the Chinese it's all new

Yes, it's a crash course we needed a century for...but then, they can now look at the blue print and maybe avoid some of the errors we made.

Another point will be the wish for more democracy of a growing middle class/more self conscious labor force. That will change the China's face alot.

Also right now the still dictatorial communist party keeps all these diversive ethnicities together by force as the Sovietunion once did.
This too will become more problematic with time...as ethnic hostilities exist, but are now swept under the rug and forcefully kept low.

I honestly can't envision a democratic China right now, the country is to huge and to diverse...it always needed and had only a strong central government ruling.

But something is going to change big time because the easy math the communists make that their system can survive even with a thriving stone age capitalism won't work for long in my opinion.

They can't have their cake and eat it!

China will become alot more restless, maybe even break up. The image of the servile, always smiling, obedient slave won't hold up any more. ;)

Every good thing has to end some time...

Even as I had thought that would happen alot later. Because the "downside" of the chinese boom is the growing of a middle class. And that means rising of living standards, rising of wages, rising confidence of the people.

Firms won't relocate to China so easily anymore if they have to pay similiar wages as at home...

China will get all these "problems" we western countries have to cope with too. All these "advantages" of the chinese economy...being able to produce masses of cheap thingies because the labor force are not much better treated than slaves will vanish...

Then China will have to fight on the world market with more even weapons, time for the West to regain grounds.

But it seems the growth of the last years was to much...not healthy either...

I really fear for the german export economy when that happens.
Europe will suffer too....and the US.

Belarus Accuses Poland, Germany of Takeover Plot

MOSCOW - Belarus accused Poland and Germany on Friday of plotting to overthrow President Aleksandr G. Lukashenko and impose a puppet government with the aid of paid provocateurs from the Belarussian opposition.

USA, Canada / Things that Polish-American should know about Poland. [168]

Would you kill your buddy because someone tells you to? That is the height of insanity.

Wasn't that the reality for millennia? There has nothing changed...

Imagine your country get's attacked by your friends nation...happened all the time in Europe...even families stood on different sides of the trench often enough.

Suddenly people who don't mean anything to you can make you kill your friend and your friend will try to kill you.

You can't escape your fate of birth.

...man am I morose today or what...

Who is Poland biggest trading partner ?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_Poland

Main export partners

Germany 26.1%,
France 6.9%,
Italy 6.9%,
United Kingdom 6.4%,
Czech Republic 5.8%,
Netherlands 4.2% (2009)

Main import partners

Germany 22.4%,
China 9.3%,
Russia 8.5%,
Italy 6.8%,
France 4.6%,
Netherlands 3.6% (2009)

Not from souls long past and people I've never met. I guess some people just need to associate with something bigger. I'll be alright knowing that the people I care for also care about me.

Imagine you had become friends with people of another nation, you like each other, come to know each other, become friends, care about each other.

But you still will join different armies to fight for your respective home countries on behalf of people you don't care as much/know about if there should be war of another kind of dispute.

All these talk about "I like people but not countries" boils down to not much if pushes come to shove, if you ask me. That's something for feelgood times....

History / Polish flag over the Reichstag first? [399]

Well...I can understand your grudge Sok and it would be fruitless and senseless to discuss your feelings, I accept them. After all when I see the images of Dresden or Hamburg I harbor dark thoughts myself, whatever unreasonable they might be.

I'm just glad that the victors of WWII had been more reasonable in the long run (have to thank the cold war for that one too I think). I would miss Germany and Europe needs Germany too as we can see right now again.

And after all, revenge was tried after WWI and only helped sowing something much worse...

History / Polish flag over the Reichstag first? [399]

Well the wSS generally had orders not to bother taking russian pows except as tongues,so the Russians simply reciprocated

Well...so goes the myth but I don't buy it: Waffen SS helps a red army tanker

It was a mixed image...the german army took millions of russian POW's during the first days and weeks. They had been totally unprepared to feed all these people and only send them back, most of them landed in labor camps where most of them died.

Also the Einsatzgruppen hunting Jews and Communist who followed every army group did not helping the image.

But as I read often it had been the Soviets who started the torturing to death of german POW's, hanging their corpes onto trees to mock the enemy. Like that:

Polish soldiers murdered by soviet soldiers

Also it didn't help that Stalin never subscribed to the Geneva conventions and that the war soon became a total war.

And on the other hand I have no qualms with the "Kommissar order". These NKVD types killed much more of their own troops than the enemy...most of them complete arseholes, no soldiers.

Michael Wittmann became famous as he was asked for a wish as a reward for a special successful day on the Panzer front in Russia...he asked for the lifes of the russian whose tanks he just had destroyed. He wanted them to be brought to the lazarett.

To say generally the german soldiers generally were much worse, started it and deserved it anyhow is just another convenient after war myth.

But then...who cares...

The incidents of the w SS being shot on capture by western allies were generally in retaliation for specific crimes, such as the Malmady massacre in the opening stages of the Bulge.

And here too...what a big thing was made about that. Even as allied soldiers massacred german POWs since the landings.

Jochen Peiper said that the mostly very young soldiers had just come from towns totally destroyed by the fire bombings and that their hate was such that he couldn't control them.

For decades after the war it was not often heard that allied soldiers did their Malmedies too...it was of course only the Germans who got hanged for it!

War is hell and such things are part of the madness...I'm glad we got over the time where only one side is blamed for everything.

News / Polish cleaner blows the lid on 'dirty' Germans [124]

I think one of the things you and I agree on is the craziness, of when person A goes to country B and complains about country B even though that person CHOSE to live there.

Yeah...you as an American shouldn know about that phenomenon! ;)

I'm quite sure now that the state will read her book quite intersted too...if they ever find her there is alot to pay back on taxes for 12 years. That would be the true reason for her pseudonym...not sure if this book will proof such a good idea in the long run for her ;)

(Not to mention those who employ her illegally..the taxing authorities must glow with interest by now)

But if she didn't like the cleaning jobs she was doing in Germany, maybe she should have left Germany.

That is the point! *nods*

And she has no plans to leave the horrible country behind...wonder why!

Yeah....nice pay...holidays...cars....mostly nice customers...HOW HORRIBLE!!!! WHAT AN EXPLOITATION :)

God, this thread is really a fart!

Don't you think that the fact that the book is among 100 best sold books tells you more about the society than the book itself?

Why? That people like to read gossip? Dirty laundry? She wrote she cleans for Promis too...that and sexs sells all the time. The dirtier the better! ;)

Actually communists only think work that people are denied the fruits of is exploitation, but never mind, having half her wage witheld certainly counts as being denied the fruits of labour.

Can't have happened to often...with 2000 Euros per month.
Do you know that many Germans toil for much less much harder?

Ask Justyna if she prefers communism to 2000 Euros per month...holidays...cars...

ROFL

God...now it get's crazy! Sorry but you won't convince anybody and his few bucks per month that Justyna is a poor, exploited victim of mean, stingy Germans.

And now we know why she works in Germany for 12 years already without any plans of leaving - she has a darn good life here! FACT!

only half her weekly wage on the kitchen table and a note which said: "Sorry, Justyna – short of cash."

Heh:)
Somehow has no influence of her 1500 - 2000 each month, her holidays...her car...

Those darn stingy Germans!

ROFLMAO

Erm...are you commie? Only those kind normally thinks of work as "exploitation"...

You can't leave it, can't you!

What you call exploitation is called "work" here in Germany...

sueddeutsche.de/leben/eine-putzfrau-in-deutschland-augen-zu-und-durchwischen-1.1043767

Translation by me:

...
It's not that Justyna cleans unwilling. "It's a nice feeling when everything is proper again", she says. "I get good money, make holidays, I drive a car. What do I want more?"
Also it's not especially risky to clean illegal. "If someone asks I'm a friend who helps with the household".
She is married with an Italian, they don't have children.
She earns 1500 - 2000 Euros per month cash, unthinkable in Poland. There she never cleaned but if she would do it it would be 1,50 Euros per hour maximum.
Today she doesn't work not under 10 or 11 Euros, as the curse is fluctuating, different everywhere. That follows the money in the town - and how many Poles there are.

Yeah...what exploitation of the poor Poles!!!
If that means exploitation to you then I accept the dirty, mean Germans too...ROFL

She has my full compassion for her dreary fate, modern slavery, call Amnesty International!!!

More likely that you have comprehension problems, or just dislike reading a Pole's point of view about her experiences in your country!

It wasn't me making the arc to "dirty Germans" or seeing that as "quite telling". Do you really think us that stupid?

Do you agree now that your whole thread was a fart in the wind???

Being a maid must surely suck.

I respect their work though....I'm a slouch myself....the moment I can afford one I will take great pains to make sure to be double nice to her! :)

And yes the article is telling, given the employment experiences of Polish expats.

ROFL

We really seem to have communication problems!

When you post an article full of demeaning anti-german stuff and then support this article blindly and still try to sell us that you don't harbor any prejudices yourself - that get's surreal, really! :)

Well..."sweetie" you opened this thread and set the tone. Don't blame others reacting to your ideas accordingly! You used the article and it's outspoken accusations clad in a story to support existing prejudices and found it all "quite telling".

Happily. I've known plenty of cleaners, and plenty more people who employ cleaners, and her stories of how she's been treated affluent people ring true. Do you think they don't?

In Germany?

You know plenty of polish cleaners in Germany and they tell all the same as Justyna did???

Nope! But then...I didn't open this thread.

So, why do you think it is "plausible"?

I mean come on, we both know what we are talking about, I just want you to spill out your germanophobia...
You are one of this board who like to flaunt their liberal, "enlightened" way of thinking - compared to us other low life hillbillies.

Isn't it interesting that you nurture your very own form of nationalistic, stereotyped bigotry like the rest of us? Nice...you are human after all! :)

Which in many ways is symbolic of the point she's making.

Yeah...compared to the other poster who believe everything in the article at once without even reading the book...or having any chance of knowing if that isn't just one big joke...heh:)

I remember that I've found all the lawns in Austria and Germany inhumanly even and trimmed

That's not "inhumanly"...it was our Poles who did it! ;)

So it's quite heartening to know that Germans are... people too, after all ;)))

Stop this! What makes you think so??? Why do you have to be so mean???? :(
