News / Poland and Kresy being reunited? [162]

Insourmountable odds, courage and valor can only carry you as far.

Indeed. But the spoils don't go to the courageous ones, they go to the guy that is left standing at the end of the day. That happened to have been the Russians.

Got that impression from any polish poster?

Absolutely. When the term "we" is used. As in, "we" saved Europe.

It does as far as Ukraine is concerned but its not beneficial in the long run

Exactly. It's settled, and there are plenty of ways for Poland to improve its situation on the patch of ground that it's found itself on. Gotta get that up and going first.

but they were Poles and so am i and because such people were Polish in the past im proud to be Polish today

I guess they were Europeans too, so I can identify with them too. I probably had a couple of ancestors involved. Yea, we saved Europe! Glad we can agree on that.

News / Poland and Kresy being reunited? [162]

is not that simple - I have been cheated from my inheritance this way.

Your ancestors didn't fight hard enough to keep it. Just like the Jews didn't fight hard enough to keep their property.

weak people are not the problem.

The problem is when people start identifying with heroic deeds and somehow get the idea that they are heroic.

Topic is taking over land on which people have made their homes for years. That's what the topic is. Speaking about the justification for doing is one thing, but it doesn't really make much sense without looking at it from a practical side.

well, criteria is specific for specific case, there cannot be general rule - except justice!

Justice is objective and Poland doesn't have a large enough stick to promote its own idea of justice.

we saved Europe on the battlefields of Vienna and Warsaw, we provided haven to the opressed for centuries

You didn't do anything. You have the identification again of "our blood" and "we saved Europe", but you didn't do anything. You've shed no blood, didn't start any revolution, never saved an ally in need.

That's the problem I have in hearing something like that. It would be like me going and somehow taking credit for "saving" Britain.

personally ? you oversimplify it a big time!

It is simple. If you want to fight historical wrongs, why stop there? What is the criteria?

well, we or not we - people are grouped in country's or tribes - all the same !

Right, and weak people like to think of themselves as heroes based on what their countrymen achieved in the past.

Both issues have no bearings on each other, run down infrastructure can be deal with or not regardless of few hundred square kilometres more or less!

Of course it does, because it addresses the reality of what is on the table here. Take run down land and kick people off it so that.... So you can move Poles onto it? Just a quick note, Poles are already leaving the countryside in droves here. There's no shortage of run down countryside...

very funny !
Where are you from in States ?

So nothing was actually stolen from you I take it? You're trying to right some historical wrong? I think a big problem is this "we" mentality. Usually when I talk to nationalists, they somehow think they were part of history. Remember when "we" saved France? Remember when "we" fought the Nazis in Warsaw? Remember how "we" stood up to the police for our rights?

generally maybe, but my point is those country's have a lot of the run down places.

The entire point was that Poland is already struggling with a run down infrastructure, it doesn't exactly need more.

Law / How to register a new business in Poland [129]

Wrong. For the vast majority of non-EU citizens, it's not an option as it simply isn't allowed.

Poland doesn't treat EU citizens any different from non EU citizens when it comes to setting up a business.

Try USA, Ireland, Spain - get real !

Yea, US, Ireland, and Spain. All in better condition than the Polish countryside. To think otherwise is to be delusional.

Its not about me ! I can renounce my right if Poland will get back her land!

Who will get the land? Who's Poland? Is she hot?

The Russians already gave it to Belarus. Poland fought for it, and lost.

land and house

from my country

no, from you. you're getting all worked up. what was stolen from you?

Well, mister 'knowAll", you explain it to me !

alright, you can't explain it. fair enough...

Exactly! Poland needed to sort out her problems, stabilise, have a time to grow - not to be bounded by EU regulation, norms and expectations at the same time opening her marked for EU country;s goods.

yup.

Oh yes ! and those country's constitute most of the world! I see you have typical American education :) ever heard about geography ?

You're right, how silly to compare Poland to developed countries, that's just unfair. I understand now though. Yes, Polish villages look a bit better than Kazakh villages. The roads are much better than in Liberia.

Aim high, right?

Just buy a shelf company. Costs about €500 more than doing it yourself. You save a lot of money if you value your time at all..

Its not only that ....I would have to write an essay to explain it to the foreigner.

No, it's because you can't explain it.

I do agree with you on Poland joining the EU. Huge millstone for advanced countries.

Yea, in fact, when I'm driving around the German and Swiss countryside, I'm constantly reminded of how things are falling apart and everything looks run down and dirty..

justice - wouldn't you try to get back land, well house of your family, forcibly stolen from you? I bet you would...

What was stolen from you?

I think the fact that you call yourself a Polish is an absurd idea. You have no idea .....

Can you explain why not caring about a place that is full of non Poles makes you not Polish? Can you explain why focusing on the people that here now instead of a couple of villages full of old foreigners is important? I mean, Poland isn't exactly hurting in the "run down village and dilapidated roads" department. Going to ask for more EU funds to fix it when you get it? What benefit would it have other than massaging a battered ego?

By the way, I'm available to explain satire on the weekends. Don't worry, I'll speak slowly.

Poland was still under soviet influence

Same happened in Romania. Some countries accepted the noose more willingly than others.

what do you mean ?

I mean having your country ravaged by not just one, but two powerful neighbors...and then that whole being occupied for 45 years. That's not exactly a win.

Yes, as opposed to being completely absorbed by the Russians like the neighbors to the east.

I think that Poland should get back her lands.

After coming in last place in WW2, Poland is pretty lucky to have gotten what it did after the war.

And yes, the borders are still imaginary. Arbitrary lines on maps.

I like to dream, along with Crow, of Poland and other Slavic states forming a huge union, kind of a union of Slavic speaking republics.

But seriously. The people are different, what is there to "reunite"? Borders are imaginary.

News / Pole loses language discrimination case in Germany; Scandalous! [97]

I definitely prefer life in Poland, it's much freer

Move to the Czech Republic, makes this place look like prison camp.

But how is Poland "freer" than Germany? In what sense? It definitely isn't when it comes to speech. It also isn't when it comes to what you want to put in your body (and at what age). Bureaucracy is way less cumbersome in Germany...

Are you confusing lack of enforcement of the rules with being "freer"?

The kids are allowed to roam the streets in gangs, making the streets unsafe. Yes, It's a shame that we have to live in gated communities..

Travel / Poland-My 9-day experience [239]

No, didn't get unlucky. This is the culmination of two weeks of being here.

It's not curiosity. There is no excuse for it.

This is Wroclaw, not some hick town. No excuse. We weren't looking for a fight.

With that said, we're both big ole southern boys, and have no problem with fighting.

Travel / Poland-My 9-day experience [239]

Well, here's my experience. Walked home from a party tonight, had some guys yell czarnuch at my friend from an overpass, that was followed up by them throwing a bottle at us. Eight of them ended up in front of us, they managed to figure out that we were Americans and had no problem with throwing down and decided the best course of action was not to pick a fight.

Add this to the stares, the not so subtle racism, and the outright offensive behavior...

One thing can definately be said, Poland is an overtly racist country.

The one redeeming factor is that quite a few people have mouths much bigger than their balls.

f*ck 'em.

I agree with Torq here, If you assess the overall post it doesn't contribute anything and overall message and the aim is very clear, It is trolling.

Why not help out and address the points in the post?

Life / Who's Leaving Poland? [138]

I get aggravated by what is happening to my country and it sucks!

Yea, all those Mexicans coming up taking all the good mowing jobs and sponging off our generous health and welfare system. F*cking Mexicans!

The foreigners I know here in Poland overwelmingly came here for their Polish partner and that includes me :)

Yup

Life / Private medicine is great in Poland [8]

Shame the UK can't afford it.

You mean private health care? Most Brits can't afford British private health care. Most Poles can't afford Polish private health care. Most Poles can't afford British private health care. Most Brits can afford Polish private health care. They can also afford a Ryanair flight over to get their teeth fixed and have selective surgery.

Is that what you were getting at?

Some of us are just that effective :) But if you're doing project based work, it's pretty normal. After 10 years of working somewhere, if you're not running things...well...

+1 for the elf count.

dnz gave his maluch away and moved...

Torq, question from the masses here... What do you think are the main reasons that foreigners immigrate to Poland long term? Family ties/significant other is probably high on that list. Just curious.

Slowly, but firmly, my theory is being confirmed that Poland is populated mainly by humans
and that elves, although you get a one or two of them every now and again, are very rarely
seen and largely mythical creatures ;);)

But then again...you are asking people that are currently residing in Poland. How many do you know (from here) that have left already?

Life / There is still no option to recycle in Warsaw! [18]

In UK it is normal to sort any waste into separate bins which is then picked up and recycled by the bin men.

I guess it has something to do with recycling being a net financial and environmental loss.

Enjoy the delusion.

The countryside, the mountains, the beaches... It's nice.

Salaries are low, they're overhauling the legal system as well. Things are starting to look good for FDI. Now if they could just sort out that whole infrastructure thing...
