News / Is it possible that Polish president was assasinated? If so then, by whom? [921]

And it's not too farfetched to comapare a Russian aviation maintenance facililty can to an alcohol rehab facility with an attached trade school ;-)

Olga, if the russians can get a man into space at regular intervals they can fix a plane. the techs working on aircraft are not idiots.

Travel / Train from UK to Poland... How to do it? [8]

So it thought that maybe traveling by train (from the UK to Poland) was an option... what do you think?

I did this some years ago and found it more expensive and slower than by bus. Bus services don't stop at night, trains do. At best you'll have minutes between connections. At worst it could be hours.

History / Polish-Moroccan mutual relations [67]

Is it possible to see volcanic ash ? I've just been talking to someone in the Netherlands who said they have clear skies. We have clear sky here too.

The weather map does not measure up with the reality of what i and others can see.

just an observation.

News / Poland President National Mourning in Some Countries [212]

Very blue skies over Wroclaw, yet again.

Low altitude flights are allowed... so I'm told.

Those that live in nearby countries have no excuse.

But then again why should we expect every nation to send a representative ?

Travel / Białowieża National Park in Poland [461]

I'm a little tired from National Mourning

Welcome to Groundhog Day: When you know the news before switching on the telly, when you know it's going to be nothing but crappy emotional songs on the radio.

This Mourning feels more like something forced upon us, rather than be followed by choice.

And now we have panic buying because the shops will be closed at the weekend.

Life / Bilet, controler and the Poland Police. [78]

the guy sitting in front me rush to the electronic validated when he saw that i wanted to place my ticket.

So you were sitting at some point before they checked your ticket.

That means: Guilty as charged.

There is a validation machine near every door, if an inspector, usually two, is on the tram/bus they normally give passengers time to punch the ticket.

Pay the fine and all will be OK.

News / Where is 'the first contact with the ground' of the Polish Airforce One [17]

Convex,

My theory: the pilot was under pressure/stress to land on time. he misread his instruments. hitting the mast (if he did) makes no difference as all had gone wrong moments before. he had already ditched fuel on one of his circuits and gave himself no other chance.

lack of fire damage in photos makes me think he ditched fuel.

Result: pilot error... possibly relying on sight rather than instruments.

Genealogy / I am looking for my family. Hart or Hort [12]

migrated from Lutowiska

there is a 19 year old, Naftali Hort, from Lutowicho who entered the US in 1907. Check Ellis Island Records.

The spelling is as it appears in the record.

not an exact match, but it is worth checking.

Travel / Mourning in Poland - everything closed? [7]

Any flight changes or cancellations?

Sorry, don't know.

Is public transport running as normal, for example?

Yes.

Radio stations are not playing loud music, unless it's an old 80's rock ballard. Eska Rock is not worth listening to. TV is rubbish... old patriotic films and constant reminders of the crash.

For a nation in mourning I don't see many flags at the entrance of buildings, but this will increase as the week goes on.

I think that most things that hint at enjoyment have been canceled, sport, concerts, etc.

Business, shops are open as usual. I don't know about tourist attractions... museums etc.

A lot of people are resigned to it, fed up with it and just plodding on. Some don't care and of course some are mourning in the way that they choose.

Life / UK garage, do you get it in poland? [18]

what artists, bands, DJ's are you looking for

Life / Punk and Garage scene in Poland [35]

I wouldn't classify it as a 'gothic rock'

from the band's website: ''Their music is appreciated by listeners young and old: metal-admirerers, gothic-lovers as well as pop music fans''.

which, i guess, makes us both right.

Gothic Rock, but still worth a listen and very good live.
