News / Restoring the Port of Elbląg? [113]

Thoughts?

Experts suggest the idea will mean huge costs and little profit.

But at least Russians will have their ears pinned back. That`s what counts for PiS most.

Language / Proposal words in Polish, HELP! :) [13]

Nie sądziłem, że jeszcze kiedyś będę szczęśliwy, aż do dnia kiedy spotkałem Ciebie.

You forgot never. :):)

The rest is very good.

Just copy-paste Polish text, push "PLAY" and listen :)

Ignoring the intonation, of course.

Not only are you my girlfriend, but also my best friend and my soulmate.

Jesteś nie tylko moją dziewczyną, ale także najlepszym przyjacielem (alternatively with female version : najlepszą przyjaciółką) a nawet bratnią duszą.

Language / Proposal words in Polish, HELP! :) [13]

I've learnt so much about you, but most importantly, I've learnt that there is no one else I would rather spend the rest of my life with then you.

Tak dużo już o Tobie wiem, ale najważniejsze jest to że wiem iż z nikim innym nie chciałbym spędzić reszty mojego życia, tylko z Tobą.

I've learnt so much about you, but most importantly, I've learnt that there is no one else I would rather spend the rest of my life with then you.

In the following sentence, shall I translate then as then or rather than?

Step by step

I know we have not been together long but I feel like I have known you all my life.

Wiem że nasz związek nie trwa zbyt długo ale wydaje mi się jakbym znał Cię przez całe życie.

History / Kaczynski's Legacy [88]

I would fully support Silesia becoming a federal Polish state though. Don't see the advantage of Warsaw dictating how Silesian tax money is spent.

Let`s divide all Poland into federal states. Even Warsawians would welcome it with joy as they constantly complain of having to pay too much of their taxes for the poor regions of Poland. Krakow pays too. it is called Robin Hood taxation.

Only creating the United States of Poland will allow everybody to live off what they produce.

News / Tuskites and Poland's ex-commies? PO-SLD coalition? [19]

Did Miller and his ilk (Kwaśniewski & Co.) not engage in the Katyń conspiracy of silence as well as the great Katyń lie, not for a year or two or three, but for entire decades?

Yes, they did.
Miller became a member of communist party in 1969.

Did they Polonius? Can you prove it? No, you can't; if you could, you'd write it up with your real name attached to it.

If you become a member of the communist party and then go on and are promoted to higher and higher ranks, it is natural that you have to take part in Katyń conspiracy of silence, as Polo said.

I never voted those red swines. They built and supported the communist dictatorship which had blood on its hands.

Leszek Miller started his political career as an activist of the Socialist Youth Union, where he held the position of Chairman of the Plant Board, soon becoming a member of the Town Committee. After the military service, in 1969, he joined the Polish United Workers' Party (PZPR).

In 1973-1974, Leszek Miller was the Secretary of the PZPR Plant Committee. With granted Party's recommendation, he started political sciences studies at the Party's Higher School of Political Sciences (Wyższa Szkoła Nauk Społecznych), graduating in 1977. After graduation, Leszek Miller worked at the PZPR Central Committee, supervising the Group, and later on the Department of Youth, Physical Education and Tourism.

In July 1986, Leszek Miller was elected the 1st Secretary of the PZPR Provincial Committee in Skierniewice. In December 1988, he returned to Warsaw, due to his promotion to the position of the Secretary of the PZPR Central Committee. As a representative of the government side, he took part in the session of the historic "Round Table", where, together with Andrzej Celiński, he co-chaired the sub-team for youth issues (the only one that closed the session without signing the agreement). In 1989, he became member of the PZPR Political Bureau.

I would be very very careful if I were you Polonius. Polish politicians are no strangers to hauling people up in court over such statements.

In this case their case would be lost completely. Polo told the truth and nobody can prosecute him for that. I can even repeat - all today`s leftist politicians who made careers in communist system are red swines who took part in Katyn conspiracy of silence. Katyn was utter taboo for communists for decades after WW2. Anybody who would have tried to break the silence and expose Soviet lies, would be finished.

News / Tuskites and Poland's ex-commies? PO-SLD coalition? [19]

to discuss possible post-election scenarios including a PO-SLD coalition.

You should have mentioned that they are seriously considering earlier elections to keep power (Tusk) or gain it (Miller).

Polo, it is time to start a new thread: SNAP ELECTIONS in Poland 2013?

I am giving you time till Monday. If you don`t start it, I will.

It is my last warning. :):):):)

So what is the score?

You also scored one.
But there is no statistics, really. I am too disorganised to run one. :):)

It was taken east of Poland.

That can be Lithuania or Belarus, countries which claim Mickiewicz for themselves.

Hmm, after a little research - Wilno, Kaziuki district, Lithuania.

Life / TVP axes Dobranocka [21]

Many other things. It's just a programme that was a bit of an institution - but there is still plenty of children's programming available.

On condition you have cable or satellite. I suppose millions of households still haven`t. Depriving those kids of evening programme is unfair.

Life / Polish vs British vs American - Clash of cultures [390]

Two photos - one of dog doing their business, one of them walking away. Telephoto lens, low angle... I see a business opportunity! LOL

Unfortunately, I know that private photos are of no judicial value to courts in Poland. I read it somewhere a few years ago.

Life / Polish vs British vs American - Clash of cultures [390]

my experience was just an opposite - friends and neighbours supported each other's black market schemes, political jokes and other small rebellions.

When I wrote :After a few decades of communism which promoted or even required spying on each other,, I didn`t mean that spying was widespread in Poland. I only stated that communist system tried to impose certain types of behaviour on people. Whether they obeyed or not, is another matter.

Of course, there were snitches, as everywhere, and opportunists that didn't mind hurting others to get ahead, but Poles were not as brainwashed about reporting neighbours like Cubans are, for example, where every block has a "patriotic" watchman.

That`s what I meant. That is why, a public address to residents by the authorities requesting to report on wrongdoers is still sth unthinkable in Poland.
