News / Poland -- good place for child-rearing [8]

do you believe Poland is a good or bad place to raise kids?

it might depend on the part of town one lives in or the school one chooses to attend.

wealth and poverty make a difference too.

on the whole: poland is a good place to raise kids.

News / World Record For Wroclaw: 7,000+ guitarists gathered in one place. (updated 2012) [18]

I noticed something interesting.

the guests today are Ray Wilson and Stiltskin.

nothing special about that until you check the tour dates for this band and see how much time they spend in Poland. Also, the official website has a Polish forum.

there seems to be quite a few musicians maintaining links with Poland or Polish musicians

History / Should visitors to Auschwitz pay an entrance fee? [82]

I don't know how serious your comment is.

I believe Auschwitz is becoming a tourist destination. It has become a must see place, a place to be crossed off on the places to visit list.

One should feel a need to visit and be prepared to spend hours taking it all in. Otherwise it's pointless walking through the gate.

Those who have the willingness to to learn will no doubt have no problem paying for upkeep.

Alternatively, those who have seen and learnt may be willing to donate when they exit.

History / Should visitors to Auschwitz pay an entrance fee? [82]

if all the people who went to Auschwitz were obliged to go on a paid tour then it might pay for itself and visitors might learn and remember.

But as i've said before I think it should be left to fall into decay.

''was deported to the German death camp in 1944 but was one of the few survivors to make it back to France.'' (telegraph, today.)

During the war, Ida Grinspan, now 79, was deported to the Polish death camp in 1944 but was one of the few survivors to make it back to France.

The telegraph seem to have put right their mistake.

Real Estate / Buying/Building a house in Poland/Wroclaw metro area [12]

Just ask the Forum. There are a quite a few members living in Wroclaw and the surrounding area.

If you want to know what a neighbourhood looks like it might be possible for one of us to take a picture and post it on the Forum.

Small place of about 130 sq. meters.

For a flat, that is actually quite big

What's the price range we should be looking at.

Do you want brand new or pre-war.

Do u want a house or a flat ?

News / Changing Face in Poland: Skinnhead Puts on a Skullcap [90]

Polish conduct far exceeds that of its Slavic neighbours when discussing politics (riotous Ukraine and Russia).

I've seen ungentlemanly conduct in the Polish parliament. more than once.

What's the name of the large park that has a mini-lake and many white swans in it? It's one of my childhood memories..

Sorry, I don't know. I could name a couple of parks with lakes, but I don't know about the swans.
Which part of town is it ?

“If you look behind the dirt and the collapsing facades, you’ll find beauty.”

there is a lot of truth in that. they still make ww2 movies here because some of the buildings haven't changed much since the war.

History / The Polish Blame Culture! [330]

it is a long way to go, which is a good thing, no?;)

i think poland is well up to date in some areas, and has managed to by-pass a few negatives on the way. still someway to go though. a little caution and thought is good.

History / The Polish Blame Culture! [330]

Poles have moved on and Poland is a very dynamic country in comparison to what it was prior to 1989.

it is noticeably different and for the better. still a little way to go yet.

Many people in Poland, esp older people, still lay the blame at the feet of others.

as do some old/young folk elsewhere.

History / The Polish Blame Culture! [330]

but do you see or hear about blaming

i'll take the easy route. it doesn't matter who or where you are, if there is a problem or argument then there is always someone to blame.

some of these arguments are more about determining the true character of a person. in other words you may find yourself set up in order to defend something.

also, much of this blame game is limited. it's almost an introductory topic for some people to mention sept 39. however, most people understand there are more important, present day, issues to worry or talk about.

there can't be many countries or cultures who don't blame another for at least one of their problems, present day or past.

News / Is it possible that Polish president was assasinated? If so then, by whom? [921]

Here's an example--Accident investigation report of Georgian crash.

far too much for me to read at this time of night. But I did notice something I think relevant.
the air-crew hadn't had enough sleep.

with the polish flight leaving early in the morning and the pilot and crew having to make the necessary pre-flight preparations beforehand... did they get enough sleep? Another shot in the dark from me.
