History / Poles in the Napoleonic era [224]

in fact, it was heavy Sarmatian (Slavic) cavalry

Could be. But many of these men were gay, because during their travelling together on campaign, they would not be able to find a woman. They became closer because they fought together, and many resorted to male companionship, rather than woman. In fact, they could be called bi-sexual, rather than homosexual.

George, have you ever heard of the 'Companion Cavalry' of Alexander the Great?

Napoleon was same as Hitler

Well, Alexander the Great, Charlemagne, Napoleon, Hitler, all the same in my mind, in the most general sense. However, Napoleon did not have the same race based ideology as Hitler had, and he never had it in his mind to exterminate whole peoples...

divide and conquer policy

Of course. But brother, Poles listened well to him, as he promised them an independent country. Duchy of Warsaw can hardly be called that, but it was a start. He most likely would never have followed through with this promise.

When Napoleon began invading Russia, and the cold set in, many Poles deserted and melted into the environment, later to return home. Many realized their mistake.

Somosierra: the Charge of the Polish Light Horse

napoleon-series.org/military/virtual/c_somosierra.html

A good example of Poles being used, literally as cannon fodder, because of Napoleon's impatience and arrogance.

O maybe its becuase they would get the job done, its not really that the french are anykind of warriors is it, so they needed to emply some

I'm confused... what exactly are you trying to say?

History / What Was Poland like in the year 1988? [50]

forget that in 1984

4 years is an awfully long time...
Don't forget that already in 1980, communists accepted Solidarity as a legitimate political agent. This was the first time anything like this happened in any of the communist countries. It was only 1 year away from elections...

A slave? No... I don't think so. Even if Poland would have chosen the violent path in late 80's, Soviet Union would not have intervened... By then, they were too preoccupied with their own issues.

Satellite instead of slave is much better. Do you agree?

Satellite, only on paper. I doubt anyone was stupid enough at that point to think that the Soviet Union would be able to keep a lid on things in Eastern Europe.

Love / Woman 23, man 47 years old. What do you think about ? [162]

What about woman 18, man 78 years old

That is close to being pedophilia. If I found out that my daughter was seeing a 78 year old.. oh God.. I believe I'd break the old man in two over my knee.

Filios got replaced with a Polish counterpart Sokrates

I do not know who this Sokrates fellow is, but I don't like to be 'replaced.' I'm still alive, my brain is still functioning, although I suffered a close call not too long ago. It'll take more to put me down, I believe.

It is good to be back from the dead, ladies and gentlemen.

News / Poland Should Beef Up Military [286]

All over Europe this Treaty is seen now as a fault and a disaster but not in Poland

Poland would have eventually gained independence, again... it was only a matter of time. Versailles Treaty sped the process up.
It would have been impossible to hold a 20+ million ethnic group down for so long.. I'm sure even you can appreciate that BB.

News / Poland Should Beef Up Military [286]

Poland would never have invaded Germany... sorry to break the news to you now BB. Only in 1933-35, would such an undertaking be succesful, with allied help. Even Poles are sober enough to realize that, back then. Your Nazi grandfathers were the deal breakers.

Food / Why carp for Polish Christmas? [157]

I've had carp for Polish christmas before, but thankfully, my father began preparing other more tasty fish for christmas when I was still young, like salmon.. I continue the tradition. I now make a lot of shrimp, lobster, scallops for christmas these days : )

Carp has too many bones, and is too fatty for me...

News / GERMANS WANT TO GERMANIZE KOPERNIK (COPERNICUS)! OUTRAGE! [1016]

Whatever facts back up German Copernicus, you cannot argue that he fought and killed his own brothers from the Teutonic Order in order to preserve POLISH state integrity. He was born within Polands boarders, had a father who was Polish, and who spoke Polish as his first language. If this doesn't make him at least in sentiment, Polish, I don't know what does...

This argument will go nowhere, as Germans will always try to look back to his family tree, while Poles will argue that he was born in Poland, lived in Poland for most of his life, and fought against Germans. The fact of the matter is, that he was most likely a mixture of both.

I wonder, if I made some groundbreaking discovery, would Poland, or Greece claim me as their own? Poland because I was born and grew up there? Or Greece because I went to school there?

History / History of European and Poland's anti-semitism [192]

Paranoia is not a synonym of schizophrenia.

Not what I was arguing.
Paranoia is indeed a symptom of schizophrenia.

Paranoid Schizophrenia type: These people are suspicious, sensitive, egocentric, whose life revolves about the theme of persecution. They imagine that people are against them and device ways to maltreat or plot against them. At first their delusions of persecution are limited and fairly well systematized and their attitude toward the world is one of emotional aggressiveness. Later their delusions become numerous, incoherent, and absurd and their aggressiveness subsides.

And apparently, I'm not the only one who believes Stalin was schizophrenic...
Try googling Stalin and the word schizophrenia.

History / History of European and Poland's anti-semitism [192]

Hitler became schizophrenic

What about Stalin? The man was already noted as dangerous by Lenin (before he took power) because of his mental instability and extremist views of Marxism. As soon as he came to power, Stalin purged factories, the army, everything. All because he saw them as potential opponents.

Name me ONE schizophrenic who has caused more needless death than George Bush?

Did you, or did you not ask this question? I don't see any specification.

History / History of European and Poland's anti-semitism [192]

Yeah, exactly. What an absurd thing to say!

Dude, just **** off. Am I not entitled to my own opinion?
Note that I said 'probably,' as you were arguing that schizo's were not necesseraly as great of a danger as so called 'normals.'
So what about Stalin, or Hitler as Sasha mentioned. These people weren't clinically diagnosed, but they showed all the symptoms. Stalin didn't even need evidence. He killed members of his own govermnent right out of paranoia.
