News / Poland - Third World Country?? [300]

The term "First World" refers to so called developed, capitalist, industrial countries, roughly, a bloc of countries aligned with the United States after world war II,

"Second World" refers to the former communist-socialist, industrial states, (formerly the Eastern bloc, the territory and sphere of influence of the Union of Soviet Socialists Republic)

"Third World" are all the other countries, today often used to roughly describe the developing countries of Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Some of the differences within the 'second world' seem to be pretty similar to the differences between the first and third worlds.

seems largely to be based on a combination of geographic/geopolitical positioning and not much more

Love / My Polish wife doesn't want to move to the UK with me - what to do? [96]

youre not in the most exciting part of poland and i would imagine the expat community is probably smaller there than some other cities

rather than a move to the uk, why not try another part of poland first - you know where im talking about - life might offer more

News / 10,000 ISRAELIS READY TO CLAIM FOR POLISH CITIZENSHIP AND POLISH LAND! [628]

im not sure of the different laws relating to the purchase of stolen property

the example i had in mind was a property that may have exchanged hands numerous times since it was stolen and then the current owner, who had no involvement with the initial act of theft, being faced with a situation whereby the are forced to return it to a previous owner... with no recompense?

this seems as unfair to the current owner, who bought the property in good faith, as it was to the owner who had it stolen from them in the first place

Travel / What do you know about Torun, Poland? [30]

much of torun is a beautiful city - havent been there for over a decade so cant say what the music scene is like

that said, there was a group of posters here awhile ago that would have us believe that the neighbouring city of bydgoszcz is the most hip and happenin city that poland has to offer... strange the things some people say...

News / 10,000 ISRAELIS READY TO CLAIM FOR POLISH CITIZENSHIP AND POLISH LAND! [628]

which do you find more upsetting - that holocaust survivors and their heirs want to come back to poland and claim land they once owned... or that the polish government is being seen as dragging their feet in allowing them to do so...?

neither are exactly suprising... jews are well know for claiming land that was once theirs and the polish government is well know for is beaurocratic delays...

Food / Mother of all hangovers....Polish Beer! [71]

maybe Bob was cookoo to begin with. or more to the point, the cookooness was deep inside of him, and the weed just hastened its release...

entirely plausible

equally plausable is that it would never have come out if it wasnt for the bright green stinky hydroponic sh!t he puffed away on so in that case, yes, weed made him cookoo

Food / Mother of all hangovers....Polish Beer! [71]

Why does Polish beer give you the worst hangover imaginable and leaves a very bad chemical taste in the mouth?

i used to get this with EB but nothing else - friends said it was caused by chemicals

UK, Ireland / Polish immigration in UK [491]

the link you posted above was not to a journal article published by white polish immigrants

it was actually to a blog that dismisses the argument that eastern europeans are claiming the amounts of benefits that papers like the sun claim they are

there was also a link in the blog that further dismisses these claims

5cc.blogspot.com/2007/08/why-figures-dont-matter.html

i think you just read the big bold writing in the initial blog and didnt take the time to read the small print which was actually the part making the point
